  1. That makes the draft about “6/8 short” in the first round if the experts are any guide!! You can only select from the players available any way.
  2. That’s not looking at a half glass full. Better to look at good points than the bad. How else do you judge a player. ? Highlights are better than nothing. Prey tell me who you have earmarked or noticed about not having some flaws in their highlights and they have been chosen. Wrong approach. You can eliminate some flaws and get to know them once a recruit arrives at your Club. That is part of development. Some Clubs are better at it than others. All players at 1& need to work on their game In the AFL also.
  3. Look at his style of play on his highlights. He is very necessary as our running does not cover metreage.
  4. Great summary We need him type of player as outside runner.0
  5. I think that’s wrong it’s about $800,000 p.a. And the first year is front loaded from then. But I could be wrong! .
  6. You’re kidding It’s has more wind than Casey and would be colder with the icy sea breeze. Only advantage is it is closer to city. Whoever suggested Punt Rd is also way off the mark. No facilities and Tigers recognise that and don’t use it now.
  7. Trade is not always about Clubs getting the biggest stars and please tell me who got any A graders in this years trade period. it’s about improving your list, patching up holes and also creating depth. North? Bombers ? Blues? Pies? Swans? Not any there on 2023 form. Some had 4 goes at it.! Adams McKay Grundy Hollands and Doedee are possibly the pick. Some are paid overs like Petts would have been at his stage of development a little like many Dees fans have accused us getting May and Lever. ( I don’t agree as we have won a flag and our defence keeps on giving us that opportunity each year) Tom Lynch and Jeremy Cameron are also prime examples of successful trading. They are ahead of most in recent times although Tigers have Taranto and Hopper which may prove worth their deals in time. Of course Hawks boosted their team in their last years of their dynasty. No draft selections of any worth are often a result. We are lapping it up with 6 and 11 due to Jackson leaving. So in the last years it’s been lean pickings on the numbers of elite players when you consider the numbers. Quite rightly we have traded for strengthening our weaknesses and for depth. Grundy aside has not worked and Schache was mishandled by our Coach after a curious Sub selection He might have been a hero replacing Tmac for all we know. Your statement about our lack of stars is correct in standards but you have to look at what we are replacing and what bus available. To say we are not a destination Club is also curious. Two players from interstate have stated their intention to want to come and since Goody has been here we have recruited Vince Langdon Lewis May Lever BBB Hunter Cross Schache McAdam Fullarton Grundy Melsham Hibberd Billing’s. That’s 15 and you need to check a few in the same time of 7/8 years for other Clubs. Five are premiership players, Four AA and others are valuable contributors to our development of our culture and depth. And this years 3 who knows how they will be judged. Probably the most valuable and impactful recruiting in a single year May have been the Pies four of 2023 of McStay Mitchell, Hill and Frampton. But that is the exception rather than the rule and no top 30 player is there as you indicated you wanted.
  8. Pies don’t get more than 2/3,000 at Vic Park and 2,700 Tigers vs Dons attended the Dreamtime game last round. We are not any different to most Clubs ( although we have a very watchable and high class team) for fans. It is a AFLW problem and KPI’s for games development are not being met nor are TV audiences. Until the AFL ramp up it’s considerable might and settle on a program of 17 rounds it will be considered as a minor diversion to the men’s no matter how good the standard.
  9. Clearly we need to be creative with a supporters bus/es leaving MCG or Nearby for Casey. Give it a go and see the response. Having said that WCW most fans going to Casey would drive there. That’s obvious from our numbers. Another 500 went to the Adelaide match because of its prestige and rivalry. Very few would depend upon transport even locals. That’s where a bus/es as a trial from the Club would be interesting.
  10. Indeed T Mac no 53 !
  11. That’s like trying to win the lottery with one ticket and a million tickets. We have 2 first rounders and need quality not quantity to add no raft of late picks. 6,11, and Kynan Brown as F/S should be a god draft haul indeed. This might leave one pick for the SS pick or a mid year addition. Simple but a clear opportunity to improve our list by another 3 youngsters including 2 of the best dozen in the country along with a developing prospect for the future.
  12. Late development for a ruck is not 24. Gawny in 2015 was 23 with his breakout Kardinia masterpiece and Tom is coming off a complete VFL season with no opportunity due to The Lions ruck and forward availability. He has completed his apprenticeship and should be ready made ( other than fitting into when required to our game plan ). In fact all of our 3 trade prospects are ready made with Tom ready to show his ability. Much will depend upon our selection forward and and ruck game strategies for Tom but a 200cm mobile follower/forward if successful could be a complete game changer. He could blossom under our development program and fulfill his potential. I am excited about the new players who should bring a much different attitude to scoring with out defending being put on the scrap heap. Mini (McQualter) should bring this to our benefit incorporating a faster system and added pressure on our opponents. Guess time will be the deciding factor to see if any of these changes materialise to improve our ability to win the big games we have failed in the last two seasons. Tom should be involved if this is to happen.
  13. That only play mostly about 17/20 mins per quarter so equal pay is not in the agenda yet. Wait till the the games are longer snd17 rounds till pripe
  14. Not sure what you are saying Dee. Because Tom played in the Lions VFL this season is my understanding. He has not played in 2023 in AFL unless you are saying you have not seen him play since that Semi at Casey in 2022 as well. Reason is he was behind Hippy and Joey up forward . Chance if him improving quickly as young tall and finding his feet might just be the event that spurs him on to being a handy recruit.
  15. Well that’s a stupid list as of now as Harmes and JJ are home already. Our depth would be from 20 down and you could still lose Trac or Clarry to a serious injury for weeks snd where would you be even if you picked up Reid. Honestly some of the thoughts called creative by their authors are both fantasy and stupidity wrapped in one. Those six players or similar would make about 2/3 wins possibly to WC an that’s all. The beauty of them for us is they have 5/7 A graders leafing them and are based on a system that has proved reasonably successful over a period. The current WC is far behind AFL standards at present so it’s not the solution for them to gobble up six ?varying players from B to C. Yeswe get Reid but again it’s only one player. Not a great idea. Better start your thinking on a good morning rather than after a hard night’s drinking!!

Boy I hope we get something in between these two assessments if we get Caddy. I want Curtin but Caddy if not.
  17. Riv is not a small really Judd and Bowser are.
  18. Should be FND intending to go.
  19. Well written we all have RDB as the lynchpin somewhere in our story. I am just very hopeful ( and confident) that we may be talking about one or two of our present elite from May Lever Trac Clarry JV and of course Maxy that we will remember them as 2/3 times premiership flag members. Just a little bit of luck and return to the 2021 spirit and ethos could fo the trick. Oh and perhaps a tweak in the game plan for more aggression. Thanks for your interesting story on RDB dpositive..
  20. Well the combined talent of McAdam and Billing’s is a giant statement to all ( including the players ) that no longer are forwards going to be judged on tackles but goals instead. If that’s so then a general up tempo forward line and game plan may be the product of Mini (McQualter) and our existing coaches. I am hoping that Fullarton is a surprise as at 24/25 years he is right in the window to assume senior ruck support duties to Max and hopefully add to the forward line high marking and goal totals when he plays in the AFL. Three new forwards gives as some hopes as the skills of all three are adding quite a bit to the total sum of our forward line parts. Just the same as JVR will develop again this year to have more influence and impact on our results.
  21. True to form Poita another who you question about being on our list. Tayla Harris? Not one mention of her fitness issues either. Please give a balanced view with all the facts when you act as Chief Delisting and Team Manager of our players. It’s tiresome reading of your haste in shadowing so many of our players that you assert prematurely should not be on our lists. PS Gawny says Hi So glad he survived 6 years of injury and poor health to triumph into our greatest modern Captain and undoubted Greatest Ruckman of the modern era, if not ever. Rant over again but really change the record please.
  22. To be honest they never checked in. Coach ( Nathan Burke ) alluded to chaotic pre season and numerous injuries and poor pre season fitness issues about Round 2. To add insult there has been very little windy home games for more chaotic footy and Whitten University Oval was not ready till halfway during season. There has been very little attempt at elite level recruiting to replace Toogood who masked the frailties of the Dogs forward setup for more than a couple of seasons. Maybe money is not being spent here and it is sad that ALL other teams have surpassed the Dogs when they were an original participant in developing the game like us. Maybe Debbie Lees exit has been felt more than anticipated. I would feel that Nathan Burke will not retain the Head coaching role after the last 2 horror seasons. General fitness levels also screams out poor prep as well as multiple injuries. Actually the Club needs a major review of all their AFLW program. But make it outside as they are in a time warp what’s needed I feel.
  23. Totally agree that that was not a legitimate disposal for the first. Got to say though I thought Campbell ruck infringement free a bit soft. If there is ONE criticism of the girls matches umpiring it is the refusal of umps to pay frees ie holding the ball ( insufficient attempt to play the ball on is rife) and some girls just resort to falling on top without any method or intention to make a play. Additionally this results in far to many ball up’s and resulting congestion. Now the skills are better it’s at least a bonus that the top teams are capable of breaking free much more and are eager on looking for scoring opportunities. Higher goals scored now has been a very important consequence.
  24. Doesn’t help in the chief promo ( which does link up with more match day info) that the venue was not posted. Especially now we are no longer certain of playing all our home games at Casey. AFL could probably add some more details to its AFLW ads in form of a few best games highlighted or the whole draw so each team gets an even spin not just the big dogs in town. But it is nice to see our TV free to air coverage which is well deserved.
  25. I am not even sure the AFL Premiership winner received a monetary amount then. Don’t be so precious because you have made a rather outlandish statement when sponsorship was a pipe dream. I am well aware that the Dees were during their glory years ( 1954 to 1964 ) multi winners of the McClelland Trophy when Firsts Reserves and Under19’s were included. But a cash donation or prize then really? As you know we had limited chances during our 57 year hideaway only in the1987 to 1994 or in 1998 or from 2000 to 2006 if it was still held then. Your assertion has the aura of a very salty fan that is grumpily throwing a toy or two out of your cot. Just be thankful our Club is in the box seat in 2023 for this magnificent prize money and is in the hands of our top shelf AFLW women’s team who will give it an almighty shake like they did in the GF at that venue in Season7 and come up trumps again.
