  1. I don't think I'll ever get my head around this discussion. In the UK, thanks to 14 years of Tory rule there's now a food bank in every town and city. Despite that, just last week my football team took 7,000 fans down to Birmingham on the Wednesday and a similar number to Berlin on the Saturday for two pre-season practice matches. It's estimated that 250,000 of our good citizens (that's 5% of our population) travelled to Germany for the Euros to support the worst performing team at the tournament. I think that sport participation rates here are really high, not so much to spectate.
  2. It wouldn't prevent you logging on to buy your finals tix BA. It would just add people who regularly attend most home games to the mix. I think each competing team get something like 17,500 for a final, perhaps more if it's against an interstate side. I also understand that a lot of category one members have been paying for the GFG over a lot of years knowing we haven't a hope in hell of playing finals. Level 2 in the Northern Stand was three quarters empty on Saturday night and that area would make up a sizeable chunk of our category one members. It's not for me to tell people how to best spend their time and I enjoyed not having to queue for a beer but there's no doubt it's a bad look.
  3. I have a season ticket that gives me access to priority level one finals tickets but I wouldn't be against our ticket allocation being weighted towards season ticket holders of any level that have attended the most home & away games. It should at least count for something I think. Perhaps a minimum threshold of 7 out of 10 home games to qualify? Just a thought.
  4. Incase anyone has forgotten we have a Friday night game at Marvel for us not to turn up to in just five days. We need to move on people.
  5. Definitely one that got away. At different stages we were poor at connecting inside 50 then just generally a bit flat footed and devoid of imagination. Those lost centre clearances and subsequent one on one contests up forward at the start of the last quarter killed us though.
  6. It really is a pitiful crowd. I reckon North might have got more down in Hobart today.
  7. Bombers now setting their sights on pick 6 in the draft.
  8. I’m currently missing Essendon getting humped to come in tonight. It better be worth it.
  9. Nope. Maybe he was from Shimla.
  10. For anyone complaining about the cold a young Indian lad who has only been in the country for a month just boarded my train wearing flip flops / thongs on his bare feet.
  11. Whilst it has just started raining again with dark cloud cover here in the west. Which way is the wind blowing?
  12. I’m convinced Metro check our home fixture before designating their track work days.
  13. And no queues for a beer or a pie. Gotta look for the positives Jaded.
  14. Sounds like I'll have all of N53 to myself tonight. Which is good because my regular seat is right on the drip line.
  15. Damned if I'm hoping for the likes of Gold Coast to lose games to help us fall into the eight. I want to do it on our own merits. I hope they hammer Brisbane today and I'm glad Carlton coughed up another four points last night. I want Carlton to drop out of the top four and go to Fremantle where they'll get a 2,000 ticket allocation instead of hosting the likes of GWS in front of 80,000 of their own knøb heads.
  16. We pretty much knew that Jacko and Biff were going to dominate in the air but our lack of intensity and spread from the contest was really disappointing. Leb and Knuckle were good I thought. The commentary team were gushing about Freo for much of the game but when it really matters they are as flakey as any side.
  17. There was a guy called Paul Mynott at my high school, who lived in Rowville and supported St Kilda. Just googled him and Trent is his son. His dad was a successful coach for Rowville apparently.
  18. Couldn't be any more than 5,000 people at the ground to watch Andrew Demetriou's plastic implants today.
  19. Fair point. Perhaps it's all in the marketing / wording of the concept then Dee*. For example it could be said that the final series is actually being reduced to six teams to enhance their credibility. Teams that then end the season in places 7-10 can play a lightning repechage game (or two) for two of them to join the top six. Something like that anyway.
  20. Richmond, North and WC are now effectively "playing" for pick 1 in the draft. Or pick 2 if you're North.
  21. He lives in Fitzroy JJR. I've seen him ride past the Pullman whilst having a beer in there one game day.
  22. Nope. It awards mediocrity and cheapens the achievement of making the finals. If they want to shoehorn in an extra week of football make it an entire home & away round.
  23. For what it's worth Max has actually floated that thought a couple of times in his twice weekly slot on the Marty Sheargold radio show.
  24. Since we played Brisbane I've decided to just enjoy each game in isolation without worrying about their greater implications and have to say it's made going to the football more enjoyable.
