Totally agree. There has to be some common themes as to why each of last years top 4 struggled. It a long season I would not be cashing in the chips yet. I was at the game yesterday down from the Gold Coast and could not believe how hot it was. In the first quarter it passed my mind that Port were doing an Ali rope a dope. The Dees attacked furiously for a quarter for a small lead but clearly spent all petrol ticket doing it. They were spent after that and it showed up in the last when we did not score. I think there were one off factors relating to this game such as heat and fitness that won’t be so big in future games. The nucleus of this side is very good and performance should be judged over a season not one game. I am confident this will turn around but probably in for a rough few weeks.

We can only hope that Burton is a gun and Scully & Wingard are busts. Seriously other than the Dees winning a flag my greatest hope is to see Hawthorn slide. 50 years of domination is enough.

I read it make sense!

Seriously Freo have been undermining one of our key players in Hogan for years. Now they have a chance to get him they want under or get severe stage fright. Talk about indecisive. You can build a whole forward line around Hogan. I for one hope they stuff him around and he sign a long term deal with Dees that see him full forward in a Dees premiership. I seriously hope this trade fall over to mention May in the same sentence is laughable.

Aaron vandenBerg not going - signs a new deal!!!

Such a great result. A player like Vanders would have left five years ago. Say it all for the club culture awesome result love the way he plays. Let hope Hogan follows these young guys can build something special together and erase a lifetime of heartache. Bloody rippa. -
Absolutely spot on. Not to mention Kennedy and Darling! Defence is a major impediment. As Collingwood found out a lack of a key defender can cost you a flag!

Upsizing a meal at Hungry Jack to get a cap. Now that funny put a smile on my face. I hope the guy wearing a Dees scarf I ran into at Sydney airport this morning can laugh at that. Poor bloke left Perth at midnight after enduring a terrible game and hungry jacks cap wearing supporters. Poor man looked utterly shattered. Try to cheer him up but he still had a leg back to Melbourne hope he ok!

Post Match Discussion - Preliminary Final

Get Hogan, Lever and recruit May. It obvious the club know it shortfall. The thing that pisses me is team like Eagles, Swans; Hawks just recycle through and you just can't ever see us beating these power clubs. Every time we bob up in the last 50 years there has been a power club that humiliates us. Will it ever change -

Totally agree been in the comp for two minutes and have been perennially successful. To see their supporters swanning around like they are on vacation make me pewk. I guess it what we deserve but they know how to rub it in. -

50 years of this just another to add to the list. Only positive we won two finals and clearly this game will highlight who can't cut the mustard. What hurt is these flogs have been consistent finalists for years and we just keep being let down. Does it ever end. -

Has been a good ride. What so disappointing is where a lot better than this. Got to say Weagles have been pretty good andscoreboard actually flatters us. Just need to settle we are our kaosing ourselves. Remind me of 88 grand final when we were slaughtered. -

How can you not be nervous this is unchartered territory for most Dees supporters. However removing the blinkers the Dees can win this for three main reason. 1. Gawn v Lycett what more need to be said; 2. Midfield depth Viney; Brayshaw; Harmes; Petracca; Jones; et al versus Yeo Redden Sheed Shuey 3. Team Depth on bench Petracca; Tyson; Spargo; Smith v Ryan, Dugan, Venables; Vardy. As Pies showed last night the Dees are finals hardened if they believe they have the talent to win. Weagles played a bottom four side a month ago in the Lions and have played one game since. I think this give the Dees a massive intensity advantage. We need to hit them hard early and take the noise factor out. Everyone talk about the benefit of the crowd but it can have the reverse impact if your losing as tension and stress build. I am confident that we have the team to win this and their forward advantage is not as big as our midfield advantage. In finals campaign past we have exhausted ourselves getting there or have been an inferior team. This is not the case this time and why I am hugely confident that if we give our best we WILL win. -

When Packer sold channel 9 to Bondy he called it the deal of the century. The Frawley deal was Melbourne Packer moment. -

Being there in person from the Gold Coast is incredible. The atmosphere will live with me forever! Unreal -
As a fellow GC from Southport am at the Gtonight would not want to be anywhere else. Will also be backin two week when we play Tigers in the granny. RED & BLUE

We have a lot to thank Don Scott for how bloody awful are those Dork jumpers. Abomination is the word that comes to mind.

Just for the record in 1961 Hawthorn had zero flags and the Dees coming to the end of a golden era eleven. Fast forward 67 years they have now won 13 one more than the Dees. No team in over half a century has heaped more misery on Melbourne than bloody Hawthorn. Winning today will partially erase a lifetime of bad memories. With Stratton and Omeara out we will never have a better chance to repay the Hawks with a footy lesson. History show that team that finish 5th_8th have a poor record winning two finals in a row. There is a tendency to overrate the victors from the bottom of the eight and underrate the losers who over a season have been better. The Dogs showed it not impossible though but this will be a tough game. Dees by 7 points.

Picking through the bones of 12 years of Misery

Putting aside the numerous disasters and the non football side of the business (PJ what an Appointment) is how good our recruiting has been since the Toump disaster. Josh Mahoney has run a great football department and our recruiting has beenalmost100% spot on. The contrast to our earlier disasters is truly amazing. I think we can beat the cats but irrespective in the longer term we are going in two different directions. -
Chris Judd thinks we celebrated too hard.
Deesprate replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Whilst he stuffed up re his celebration comment let hope his judgement that the Dees will make the granny and are a threat to the Tigers is more accurate -
Typical AFL Thursday night final who want that!

Great post match tweet from Ralphy Horowitz Cant deal with expectations; Can't beat a side in the eight; Should have gone on a pre season camp; Go Dees. Home final. Bite that critics.
