I think you should be able to have longer contracts, however, if the player wants to move mid contract then there should be a penalty. For example, if the new club isn’t willing to pay the current contracted salary, and if the current club won’t cover the difference and the player won’t take a cut to make it work - ie if the $ distance between player , destination club and current club is so vast as to be irresolvable - then the player doesn’t move. Now I accept that may be difficult culturally or practically (ie unhappy player stuck at club) but if that is the case then the onus is on the player to eat the difference.
