I think it’s just a matter of time!

It would be surprising if they didn’t use let’s do it back in Melbourne as a major motivator, as that what a lot of fans felt, but obviously didn’t resonate or not enough. Free agency will see more clubs moving players on with 1-2 years left on their contracts, to avoid losing players for free. You see it all the time in well managed clubs in the EPL. The AFL has kept its romantiscm of club loyalty longer than most competitions. Father/son extends this notion, and it has created a major imbalance in the competition, Pies & Lions don’t win the last two flags without Daicos, Moore, Ashcroft, & Fletcher! The Cats had Ablett, Hawkins & more help fuel their success. Sitting next to an ex player manager at an AFL event yesterday, he mentioned if Saints don’t start well next season, watch them implode when TDK doesn’t dominate and Silvagni struggles with injury, as their existing players will feel Marshall is a better competitor than TDK, etc, why is TDK getting massive dollars and I’m underpaid! Big money creates angst unless the imports deliver!!!!! Oliver who is a favourite of mine, got the huge bucks and then hasn’t performed on or off field. He needs to really turn it around and get back to his best, Petracca if he stays needs to do the same, even if for different reasons! We have some great players in Gawn and Pickett, hopefully Oliver/Petracca can find their old form, Fritsch as a 50 plus goalkicker and our youngsters in Langford, Lindsay, and Windsor have shown some great potential! Club stability from board level down, nail down Caulfield as our home, then let the FD and Coach get on with it. List management and drafting will become more important than ever! I have my fingers crossed as only seeing one flag in a nearly 60 year journey supporting the Demons, one or more flags in the next decade would nicely even up the ledger!! Go Demons!

Agree, Petracca didn’t have his best season, but showed signs towards the end of the season he was on way back. Pick circa 20 this year and a similar pick next year are a joke. Another preseason into Petracca, a new coach, and hopefully we see him back close to his best! Managed properly he can play another 5 or 6 years!

Hold Petracca for a year and offer Petracca plus something Future 1st as a trade for Butters! Or try it now!

Typically no, I still feel if he and Oliver continue to improve as they were at season end, we will get something better for them next year, or we may decide to keep them. This years draft seems weak from all reports!

Petracca not at his best and still rebuilding confidence off the back of injury, and wanting to leave finishes 2nd in B&F. Kossie missed 3 games, so maybe Trac ends 3rd. Options 1: Another season body starting from better position and new coach/environment with King and Hopefully Petracca has an even better year. Then consider trading him if he wants to leave! 2: Vs trade now at lower value in a weak draft! Personally I’m keeping him in 2026 and trying to increase his value and get a pick in a stronger draft!

If your King you want to hold onto one of the coaches, Chaplin knows a lot about the players and this will be invaluable to King.

While your comment maybe correct, Compared to previous seasons he seemed to make many more errors with ball in hand! Rankin was a major factor in Crows winning that game.

This year and likely due to an interrupted pre season and injury, he was average at best. Hopefully fit and back to his best, he is a good to very good player!

It’s funny but I think Viney, Petracca and Oliver might have put the ball into our forward line in a certain grand final we won from 19 points down in the 3rd quarter! Freedom to play is what MMcrae brought to Collingwood!

I was supportive re Buckley but had some reservations, reflected by others on Demonland. That the selection process found someone they feel is better, that is fantastic news. Starting two weeks later is not a big deal. King will already know who and what he wants from a trade standpoint and coaching support. I’m sure he will squeeze in a chat with McVee and whomever else as required in those two weeks! Let’s hope he has the same level of success as his namesake the author and can plot a nasty ending for our opponents! As always Go Demons!

Very good post. Only 15 coaches have won a flag since 2000. When you look at complete list of coaching appointments over that time, new vs experienced is a much better guide! Was Roos a failure at Melbourne? No, we improved each year and he started with a basket case of a team!
