2025 Keith "Bluey" Truscott Trophy
While I was generally a supporter of Goodwin, but felt it was time for a change! He may have spoken clearly, but I recall one of his B&F speeches I would put on when struggling to get to sleep and it always worked a treat!! 😴

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Thanks, punctuation has never been a strength! I haven’t found the spellchecker & grammar button in Demonland!! If you measure Roos time comparing each season he coached to the preceding year, there was a substantial improvement each year! If you look at sports team results around the world, any sport, teams have a better record at home, note I’m sure someone will come up with an anomaly! Why: knowledge of the ground, stadium, wind etc! Higher team support, which typically leads to more favourable umpiring decisions. Routine, own bed, less travel etc! Pies & Cats both have significant advantages as clubs: Cats 9 home games at own stadium and not greatly disadvantaged in 7 other games played across MCG/Marvel as they play at each often enough! Also home stadium 95% of home fans due to ticket restrictions! Still benefit from a virtual go home academy, Dangerfield and more as an example! Numerous others I’ve mentioned before, including ex Cats stacked in at the AFL! Pies get 16/17 games at least interstate games of any club year after year, how often do they play at Kardinia Park! Umpiring through crowd number bias! Tribunal through MRO, even if only subconscious bias! It’s a joke that he is allowed to judge Pies players! There is more, but if you have any doubts about AFL trying to even the competition, Pies and Cats both benefit heavily from their treatment by the AFL!

Hypocritical Collingwood supporters calling out booing of Quaynor
Never in doubt! A football act! Michael Christian still as single person MRO says it all!

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Agree on the following: Ump 22 definitely is anti Demons! Caro W definitely hates Demons! Dermie hates the Demons! Not many of Channel 7 commentary team like us either! When Demons won 2021 flag expectations were for multiple flags with the list and domination of that final series! The results got progressively worse each season thereafter! I feel we were unlucky with injuries in 2023! Our forward line and entries into the forward have not improved from 2022-2025, this is a coaching issue! After a shocking start to the season, then many close losses and finally a disastrous 4th quarter loss to the Saints, where the team was in disarray. These issues ultimately stamped Goodwins ticket out! Commercial maybe part of the reason, but not the reason Goodwin was fired!

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Agree we have a range of forward challenges! Our most recent quarter of football against Pies and last quarter against the Saints looked like goalkicking and panicking to me!
-
Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Whoever is our next coach get a goalkicking coach - and get the players to do what Dunstall, Lockett and the best goal kicking and most accurate would do all the time, practice practice practice, they all were pretty durable, so no BS about too much kicking! That’s everyone midfield and forward - maybe even the defenders! Kick 3 more goals a week instead of 2 points and an out on the full, adds 3 goals a game, would lead to another half a dozen wins per year! Yes it’s not like the AFL would ever let a new team come in with a sub standard stadium to the competition. Demanding Tassie has a roofed stadium will uphold the ground quality traditions of news teams, just like GWS!

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Unfortunately your 1st line is 100% correct! 2nd line seems on the money, but refer your first line for Daly! Re Buckley big ego no doubt, Sheedy, Malthouse, Matthews, Clarkson, Hardwick all seem to have healthy egos! Majority if not all AFL coaches go in with the premise - I want to coach and win a flag, irrespective of who they coach! Personally I would prefer Longmire, but expect a few things from Buckley: Elite fitness, perfectionist as a player/preparation so will find the best available in this area. Like him or not, he is respected in the AFL industry. Was a great player and will get respect from Trac, Oliver etc. and hopefully complete turning their careers around back to the champions they have been! As Roos helped bring in some players when we were woeful (worse than woeful) Buckley will draw in 1/2 players and assistants! He will have learned a huge amount in his first coaching stint and also while in the media, and should be better 2nd time round! If Demons grabbed a Mihocek or a Chol type to help straighten us up and let JVR be #2 key forward, that would certainly help! Then snag a good ball user added with some further improvement from Langford, Lindsay and Windsor and 2026 could look very different!

After half time …
We must have been 3rd quarter kings! Because we dropped off badly in the last early in the season and last few weeks!

The Greatest Demon of All Time?
Flower (maybe my age bias) Oliver (till 2023 agree) Max Petracca Kozzie (little bit best yet to come and could go higher) Farmer Lyon Neitz Stynes Schwartz & Jakovich both cruel led by injury & could have been anything Notables: Wells, Alves Flower, Kozzie, Farmer, Schwartz & Jakovich could all do the unbelievable, such a pity last two injury challenged! 70’s and onward stars, never saw Barassi play as a Demon!

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Hinkley for head of strategy at the Demons perhaps

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
If we were to lose Petracca you would definitely take Butters!

Awesome! But who what where? What do we trade?

PODCAST: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
Not necessarily! Need some new blood and improvement from current players. When Fly joined Pies they were supposedly cooked, a change in style, attitude and voice, meant they changed! So it can happen! Yes, before someone states the obvious “Fly took over from Bucks”.

Melbourne Football Club - The CEO
Langford, Lindsay and Windsor have all shown plenty of signs they will make it! One of Kentfield, Jefferson, White turns into a reasonable Key position player and. Two of Mentha, Kolt, AMW or Sinema come through Add a draft pick and trade one player who some through and makes a big difference!

PODCAST: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
Thanks for the year Andy, Binman & George the time and effort you put into the podcast is greatly appreciated and commendable! While reasonable effort a Disappointing finish! The concerns: poor decision making in last qtr, happened too often last two seasons! Skills when it counts, went missing! Backline too slow, Salem, May & McDonald! Add Lever! Also think Petty! McVee shocking season! How much of a shake up is required? The need for some speed & skill! Forward line Petty not doing enough, Sparrow too many errors, Chandler did he play 2nd half and seems to start season well and gradually go down hill, JVR okay and hopefully better next year! The need for some speed & skill! In the guts also need for some speed and skill - might come in future from Windsor, Lindsay, Langdon & Rivers in mix! Promise: Midfield Max still gold! Rivers needs to learn how to settle when he has the ball! Oliver nearly back, Trac further to go, Kossie can’t do it all the time but still kicks 2! Fritsch showed his class. Langdon looks a ripper! Question: Who can we lose and what do we need? Biggest areas of ground we need to address?

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Oliver & Petracca have both showed some signs of improvement as season has progressed! Options trade: - Petracca maybe get a first round pick in a weak draft. Oliver have to wear some his salary and take a late 1st rounder or 2nd round pick. Don’t trade and hope new coach can get the best out of both players. Trac should be physically and hopefully mentally better next season after horrific injury of last season! Oliver getting fitter and seemingly more confident as season progressed! Personally I’d keep for one more season!

Ben Brown article
Brayshaw knew where to position himself on the field and particularly supporting the defence! Also glue off the field! When you see how Pendlebury got the Pies home on Saturday, you realise the impact of missing Brayshaws on field contribution!
-
POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
Coolx2 this year Jeremy Cameron is the one player in the league to kick 3 goals per year! He is a forward! Kossie is averaging 2 per game, the only mid forward to do so! 15 players have kicked more goals than Kossie this year, all permanent forwards! Kossie is a star and well worth the money being paid. Look at the games Demons won and his influence!

POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
How many current players in the AFL last 10 years average over 3 goals per game?

Ben Brown article
Saw a couple of articles on Ben Brown but most notably on 2021 flag. Personally he had lost all confidence and forgotten how to play, stripped it back to few key items particularly competing and got some confidence back just in time to help win flag. He noted how few injuries we had and how fit the team was leading into finals series. Then on the big day, 19 points behind in 3rd quarter and Oliver, Petracca & Jackson unleashed! Post 2021 his knee realistically gone, so basically it ended up we got him in won flag and he was done. Re culturally he said footy clubs have their challenges and Demons weren’t perfect but not everything bad, also highlighted the impact of losing Brayshaw!

Welcome to Demonland: Brody Mihocek
Richmond have Lynch why would they be interested. Saints maybe. If Buckley is Demons coach, would imagine increases likelihood of Mihocek coming to us, as Buckley gave Mihocek his initial opportunity!

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Buckley brings: coaching experience, 110 secs from a flag as someone mentioned above Credibility in the industry, Trac, Oliver & co. Will respect him and might even listen to him. 2nd time round will know mistakes he previously made. Buckley will draw players to the club like Roos. You only need a few. And also draw some coaching & fitness talent! it’s not all bad: Another poster said we lack impact aside from Max, Kossie has impact, Trac of old has impact showed glimpses against Hawks & Dogs! As mentioned in another post get Oliver to handball more to better ball users! There are a multitude of changes that can be made to improve our lot! Trading out Oliver, Petracca, Viney, Fritsch when you get next to nothing won’t really help. But getting them back to near their best will. Smart drafting and trading can make a big difference, Hawks been very clever I this regard. The board simply lost faith in him! Since 2021 flag with supposedly dynasty team has gone backwards each year and after 0-5 start this year, then the coach killer last qtr against the Saints being the final straw! Personally feel we were unlucky in 2023 with injuries and the mess at board and administration level made life tough for Goodwin since 2021 flag. Hopefully new Chairman in Smith, new CEO in Guerra, new coach, hopefully a new home Caulfield and some other assistant coaching and fitness changes provides an opportunity to start relatively fresh and leave the past behind! Richardson will likely go at end of 2026!

My 3 word player analysis V Hawthorn
After a poor losing season and coach getting the bullet, confidence is rock bottom and skill execution follows!

Farewell Judd McVee
I’d say poor, but hi season has been a 3-4 out of 10, his best we miss, how he has played this year not so much. Would rather he stats and gets in a strong pre season, then we should see much better form!
