This ‘Premiership era’ wasted inside 50
I think I said this earlier this year, but.......teams beat us well when they play on quickly and don't give our zone time to set-up and get behind the ball and take intercept marks. Oppo teams know that we just bomb it in, so they set-up with most players in our forward 50 and we just kick it to them. I think we did it once this year, cant remember the opposition, but we hit up short leads on or just inside the 50. We did it for the first quarter only, and it worked and forced their defence out of our 50 to man up. Once this happened we could kick it longer and deeper without having packs of 20 players flying for the same ball. I'm not an AFL coach by any stretch, but surely they saw this work and went, "hey that's a pretty good option if we have so many inside 50's but can't score". Not rocket surgery.

My 3 word player analysis V Collingwood
Whoever was supposed to be anywhere near Jack Crisp for the night was our worst player. He absolutely slaughtered us with work out of stoppage and created at least 5 scores that I counted.

AFL won’t move Cats vs Essendon game
We've nearly played more games there than Geelong have themselves!

Sydney did it well against Geelong last week where they honoured the short kick to just in or just outside 50. All of Geelong's defenders sagged off opponents to intercept and Sydney just hit the short kick. Second half, Geelong had to adjust and go more man on man. The result. You can then kick longer to one on ones. It literally would only take half a game to change to this sort of tactic that would potentially then allow some longer targets in the second half. Not sure why we don't do this nearly every game.

Need more pace on the ball. Freo beat Geelong by playing Collingwood style attack. If we play slow attack and a slow zone defence, we will get done. I also noticed at the game on Friday night we don't seem to defend at all at centre bounces. If we don't win it the other team walks out the opposite way 10 steps and easy kick to a leading forward. It seemed to happen every time they won clearance, whereas when we won clearance it was a pressured kick forwards or sideways. Mids need to defend half of the time.

Yep. Dees fan living in Adelaide. Get to at least 2-3 games in Melbourne each year and then try and get to the 1, sometimes 2 games where we play Port or the Crows here. Crows supporters are far worse. No idea of the rules and the incessant booing for no reason at all. Excited about gather round, taking my son along to the game due to the timeslot. Heading to another couple of games across the weekend too. Should be good.

Coleman is a massive out for them. He and Rich running and delivering off half-back are a handful. Speedy ball movement caused us defensive problems last year so less bounce off opposition half-back is good for us! On the flip side we seem to have been training fast ball movement ourselves over the pre-season, so can do just as much damage in attack. Long may it continue!

What I'd Like to See from the MFC in Twenty Twenty Three
Not 2023 related, but not have to play at Kardinia in 2024..........

Football commentary does my head in
I'm in SA and don't watch much live TV apart from the footy, but by the sounds of it I'm missing out on a Petracca blunder?

Football commentary does my head in
I lost all respect for Cameron Ling (and Simon Black for that matter) the first time I saw that Cash Converters ad. Has to be up there with the most disgraceful sell-out of a modern footballer I've ever seen. Also it's just a woeful ad regardless of who is in it.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Port Adelaide
I'm and Adelaide based Dees fan as well mate. If we see a crowd gathering around beating someone up let's promise to help the other out! In all honesty the Port fans are way better than the Crows fans. At least they understand football and the rules and will respect other supporters. Crows fans are so one eyed and have absolutely no clue about the game.
