AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
Sorry, but surely you could have submitted that in teamsheet format?

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
An example of the bid system: WCE bid for Zeke uwland at pick 2 (value 2481) -10% discount (2233) GC use picks 15 (973) and 18 (836) and their pick 24 (424 remaining of the 621 value) slides down the draft order. So at this stage our picks 7 becomes 8, 8 becomes 9 and 37 becomes 35. WCE can use what now be pick 3 to bid again but any matching would now only require 2178 points. Also, it’s my understanding that the remaining points on gc pick 24 are where that pick slides to: 621-424=197, which falls to pick 43.

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
I’ll take a stab from what I’ve seen and believe I understand. Once they hit the later stages of the draft and rookie draft the club does not have to match the bid but has the option to, provided they have list space. In this years case, we have the option to list 5 players to the primary list so can match bids late. However, we have a preference to rookie list White and Sinnema. So any club placing a bid on them that late is just ruffling feathers. After every bid, the draft order is shuffled up or down as required and the picks are assigned their new value.

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
CDT is too good to be passed on by any of the clubs above us. Richmond supporters I know are praying he makes it to them, and even wondering if they can orchestrate a trade from 3 to 2 to grab him. Their ruck depth IMO is less than afl standard (after Nank it’s just Samson Ryan and then untried Mate Colina) and this guy is in that Jackson type basket. And Essendon just lost their first ruck to FA (would be laughing if they basically gave up Draper for a pick that landed them a better replacement)

Will we delist and re-rookie?
Our current primary list is 33 so if there are bids on either/both of White and Sinnema we have space to match the bids. Likely we rookie them in any case. Pick 37 can be used without fear of losing them to bids.
-
Any experienced players worth picking?
Both very reasonable. Seamus Mitchell could be a capable enough back pocket which is something our list lacks. However I think list spots are very tight, would rather see toby sinnema given that spot and JT given free rein to take a draft punt at 37.

Kozzi Pickett - Will he be an all time MFC great?
After hogans start to his career I definitely did projections and on the allthestats website (I love it as a resource) started watching him climb the mfc all time goalkickers list. Koz is definitely trending in the right direction and sounds like a cornerstone of Kings game style. Not saying he will win the Brownlow but I expect the camera panning towards him on the night far more often, particularly with Christian and Clayton gone.

I wonder who if anyone would be willing to trade up and how much currency we could extract. Hawks have pick 10 and 22, unlikely to trade for 8 and 37 Carlton to save a bid? Not very likely and the currency would have to come from 2026 where they need every point they can get. Also can’t trade picks back to Gold Coast, just one of those rules. If we knew he’d still be on the board at 17 then Brisbane would throw in 23 but that seems a huge gamble.

Calling all pre-season track watchers ...
Tom is the name I want to hear big things about this preseason. Had the years, the loads, and now finally the positional vacancy to have impact. Hope he’s setting himself to become Mr Melbourne (or at very least a Mr <insert month> of the mfc calendar)

Bailey Humphrey
Have a great season Bailey. If you still think it best to return to Melbourne for a multitude of reasons, we’ll do our best to help next time round 👍

AFLW: Rd 10 vs Sydney
TG is only 21?! She’s just so composed. Also really enjoyed the nous of Gemma Rigoni, thought her disposal really advantaged the receivers.

Welcome to Demonland: Jack Steele
Love Steele as a player so welcome him to the red and blue. That said, I have fingers crossed he’s in good repair physically. Has been known to power through injury and (although my memory is hazy as to exactly when) seem to remember him having a shoulder that was popping out? Hope he’s on top of it and viney has been made fully aware so as to not break him during preseason training. Looking forward to seeing you in the thick of it round one Jack ❤️💙

Callum Ah Chee in limbo
They’ll cheat the system by putting a huge price on his head. One year contract at a million bucks. Then rejig it to over 3/4/5 years once he’s on their list. Also he’s going to be around family. Best to just leave it be. Good role player though. Would be in many best 23s

Farewell Clayton Oliver
Barrett has tried multiple times to get twomey to concur with him on the dollar figure Melbourne are footing and is plucking numbers from the sky. Credit to Cal for not buying in and just moving past it each time. No need to guess and speculate. Barrett doing his best to rub our noses in it but others have more class.

Deathriding Gold Coast 2026 - Sponsored by OnTrac5
We sent 3 second rounders? So a future? Takes a little gloss off for me. But on the deathride, anything outside top four will be a win in my eyes

Bailey Humphrey
Enjoyed the excitement, but alas. if Bailey puts in a request formally next year I would think us getting Trac to them (as well as having trade capital next year) that we will be in a good spot to open talks. In my mind, Casey to Moe drive is a factor. Already putting out feelers for bbqs next October. Go dees!

Unless his manager takes the call from a bathroom at a bbq, I won’t believe a word he says

Jy Simpkin
Norths list does have a few holes but Simpkin leaving wouldn’t create one, their commitment to drafting mids early will pay off in the coming years. He did have a very handy showing in the preseason all stars match early this year. Could be very damaging for a club of right fit. If saints roll all their dice I could see them having a play and them jumping to finals next year. Can see him loving the option of running plays at speed with NWM. (I could see it being a Marshall out Simpkin in and let the cats figure out how to appease north.)

The Lachy Dovaston Thread
Reading that his running and standing vertical leap was good (top 5 in both) as well as being 4th best ALL TIME in the agility test, I’m a fan. That’s small forward traits. U18 numbers suggest he tackles well and regularly as well as hits the scoreboard. Would be happiest if we had a pick above him for someone like Lindsay, but wouldn’t be disappointed if he was on our list

If @demonforever didn’t want to be lured back with a bunch of off season tags 12 years later then maybe ‘forever’ was the wrong choice

Leek Aleer
I’m not really across much about him, just what I’ve seen on here and an old article on https://www.afl.com.au/news/1355179/melbourne-demons-boost-defensive-stocks-by-signing-college-basketballer-oscar-berry/amp
