Welcome Back to Demonland Marty Hore
The end is nigh replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don’t mind it as a rookie spot. With hibberd gone there’s a chance he gets some games in a horses for courses selection. But hoping any other rookies added are midfield grunt so the vfl team still functions -
Max Promises Tough Love this Preseason
The end is nigh replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Personally I see the tough love line as a nice diffuser on the Goodwin interview. They carried on afterwards that goody didn’t reach out to smith (he interviewed the morning after returning back from overseas, understandable to still be p’d off) happy max is personable enough to not ignore media. He wasn’t alone on the ledge for missed shots in finals, and I’m sure he’s open to receiving it back. Plenty of talk this preseason please dees. Professional words and advice to build each other up further. And action to show you’ve heard and respected it. Never forget Aaron vandenBergs contribution to the flag. -
2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
The end is nigh replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like him too but think pick 11 is overs. I’d expect if we were into him we would be auctioning the pick to slide back to somewhere that he’s still on the board, and improve our hand next year. Although such a move would negate the price paid during trade period to get to pick 11 in the first place. -
2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
The end is nigh replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
In all I’ve taken in (mostly from Cal Twomey and the like) we seem to be sitting in the bottom of the first two batches. top 6 of Reid duursma and mcKercher, curtin watson and sanders then next grouping is caddy Leake o Sullivan Windsor and Wilson. If all is out of our control and we walk away with Sanders and Wilson then we’ve done alright. Nothing wrong with either pick and both should work out fine. But to me it just feels too vanilla (off topic:very underrated flavour) I just have the feeling sanders isn’t a good Melbourne fit and will get the James Jordan treatment of waiting for something to go wrong with our all star centre square squad, none of which are close to finished. If there isn’t a slider presented to us then personally I’d prefer Leake or O Sullivan at 6. Might be a stretch but I see both as better needs picks and would rather choose for list balance than for top end talent. -
Can someone please dm me (if it’s to be left publicly unspoken) on a reason Werridee has listed Oliver as suspended? I try to keep on top of all the news and this is the first I’m reading of it. Call me naive if you must but I don’t agree that omission of detail is directly aligned to categoric fact.
-
Can’t believe the amount of counter hype on curtin. The question I debate with mates is, would you accept a future first from wce for 6 if curtin was there? Can’t see them rising from bottom 4. But I like the kid enough to just take him.
-
It seems most phantoms have north passing on curtin and hawks grabbing him. Given they have McCabe coming in as a f/s, Im holding onto a little hope that he slides to us (although I see this as a major hole for north and them needing him more than anyone)
-
Gold Coast have 3 players and 6 picks before it, so it will be 39. (Dogs haven’t any picks before it to be eaten up for Croft) edit: hawks have f/s in McCabe but all picks used for it are after 42
-
Reid mcKercher duursma will all be off the board. Either Watson, curtin or sanders falls to us and I thank freo for putting us in such a position. Whichever way it falls, we will be a better club with any of these on our list. Up to our development team to make the other clubs look silly.
-
Missed the first two rounds this year, Afl imposed suspension. Not a rumour, he clearly admitted it. He’s a big time no.
-
I wish the reserves grade had survived so we could play people in position. Are teams allowed to send a player anywhere under Casey to get more minutes? Can’t see how we get appropriate match time into Verrall and Farris white if fullarton plays for Casey and needs his minutes too.
-
With the extra size up forward on our list, is it Tmac who plays back in Casey or Schache? Or both?
-
Reading that he’s a tall forward who was a basketball guard instantly reminds me of jack watts. Does anyone know what his range is like? Can he hit shots from beyond the arc? Very happy with the addition. Fits the list profile well. Hope he grows into his niche and amasses a good career at the dees. As an aside, if Tom does present well enough, does JVR go higher up the ground in ‘24 and beyond? I like him closer to goal and pack marking/splitting but maybe having that presence will improve our forward connection.
-
If we give up 6 and 11 and don’t get Reid, it better not be for Watson. Would happily do it for curtin if the tea leaves read that he won’t make it to us but that would be dealing with north for 3 (and change, 18 or so) and having them agree to not cut our lunch. Still lots to play out in the pre draft posturing

Wonder if any of the second rounders hinged on there being a known range of the brown bid. no point having 35 if a bid is likely to come at 30. No point keeping 27 either if we are committed to him either. mcadam, fullarton trades, pick 6, 11 and brown. 5 out, 5 in. don’t see a need in keeping currency for either of the remaining trades. The clubs don’t value the players enough to squabble hard for them.
-
if Ben brown thinks he has something good left to give, great. He’s contracted and entitled to a shot. But if round 8 comes and he hasn’t got himself onto the park, I hope he vacates a list spot for a mid season draft. I fear for Caseys fortunes next year as it’s very hard to play the Melbourne pressure game with 6 talls crammed into the forward line. 190+ forwards on the list for 2024: brown (200 cm) fullarton (200) Schache (199) petty* (197) jefferson (195) Mcdonald (194) Van Rooyen (193) smith* (192)u add to this Verrall and Farris White as VFL ruckmen. Prior to starting this comment I hoped to draft Nate Caddy, now I can’t see how that would be reasonable. bbb Tmac and Schache have a year to run. * can play back but what they showed as a forward is worth persisting with

Good list fit. First thought is a future 3rd, let’s not waste time haggling an easy kill trade when there’s bigger fish to fry. Get it done Monday and welcome him to a great opportunity.
-
So if Brandon zerk thatcher is worth a first rounder, the only club with the collateral to make a clarry offer has to be north. Sheezel, larkey and pick 2. Hard to say no at that point. Although could be haggled down to pick 3 instead of 2.
-
Not a rumour, just an easy target: jackson hately. Was on trade radio pleading his case and daresay there wouldn’t be many fighting for his signature. Nothing particular flashy about him but with JJ and Dunstan out I think he could be easily sold on playing for Casey as a low contract player. Need to keep shape in the reserves, can’t develop players without some guys taking the hits, and can’t see us drafting an inside mid so would be a good stop gap.
-
If the compo pick manages to land kynan brown, I’ll be very content. All the best to JJ, was a good pick and no hard feelings. Really hope he’s not boo’ed, but even baker who was delisted copped crowd treatment
-
Not exactly a rumour but whenever experts talk about Gold Coast pick I hear other teams ahead of us. I hope we still remain in the picture for whatever first rounder Gold Coast trade in. Upgrading our first rounder (15 or whatever) to 10 for a second rounder makes a lot of sense to me and should help them for points given they have three prospects to bring in

Picket v Spargo - The Learnings

Who would Nick Watson replace in the 22 if drafted? -
Maynard must get at least four weeks
The end is nigh replied to leave it to deever's topic in Melbourne Demons
My two cent vent: the language used to suggest brayshaw had a chance to alter the contact has me disgusted. Reminds me of when they said viney should have pirouetted at full speed a few years back. I won’t be watching another game involving collingwood this year. Or discussing any matters of football with Collingwood supporters. Hope the dees put up a fight but am shattered and think brayshaw is such a crucial player that our season might be done. Get well Angus. Fingers crossed for a positive recovery. -
Going in with a fistful of optimism and looking forward to Jefferson getting a forward line to himself. Hoping he plays with presence and we get to see how he likes to operate without a bunch of trundling champs taking his lanes. Kick a bag son!

Josh Mahoney to depart Essendon.
The end is nigh replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Many years ago now, I was a member the mfc, year after year. Joined after a passionate public plea from Jimmy. Then one year after having some financial struggles I was slow to renew. A cold call from Josh Mahoney himself seemed full of genuine spirit and desire to retain each member as every bit of help would have the club turn the corner soon. Whilst I was low on funds I had just found work and agreed that on the next payday I could make it work and would sign on again for what would have been a 10th year. He said he was excited to have me back and would personally call me that Friday to get me signed up once more. A decade has since passed. I’m beginning to think he has forgotten me.
