Mostly true. But also true is he is not meeting minimum standard in important areas and other youngsters see it and are influenced by it (and if you don't meet minimum standards then you are not fulfilling your contractual obligations): * clearly his training standards and rehab are poor * clearly his off season preparation is poor * his leadership skills are non existent for an experienced 9 yr player * while he provides drive in some key games he is just as equally likely to have a complete shocker in games when we need our more experienced players to stand up or at least show some interest and lead the way * his form fluctuates to put it kindly (missed the important mid to late part of the year due to form and I assume poor rehab) * he lacks intensity and urgency which leaks goals at the other end and sets are poor example to the younger players Granted his best footy is elite (and I would miss watching him play) but it's not enough if the other side of your game is so poor. I support the club in this but wish it didn't play out in the media but who are we kidding, its Jack Watts the darling of supporters and the human headline, it was always going to be messy if Jack didn't want to leave

Players all know that to get players in you pay overs. Lots of reports about the $$$ but no one knows other than a select few. Not many 21 year old's in the All Australian squad last time I checked.

It will be much more than that if he is forces to go into the draft. He'll put a massive price on his head for years 1 and 2 and then get paid under's for years 3 and 4 when he reaches the MFC

Simplistic observation I'm afraid. Clubs recruit players all the time based on their potential and the hope that a change of scenery helps. Sydney are the best at it and would be a good match for Watts to get out of the limelight but he loves his comfort zone too much

There is a difference between a good bloke which Jack is and a good servant which he has been below average at on field. Wish my work would guarantee me a job for being a good bloke during the yearly corporate restructures

Jury is still out on Goody like all 1st year coaches but the interviews you hear with players suggest he has great rapport with them. When a committed respected player comes out against Goody then I will listen until then Watts can say what he likes we see every week that he has sub standard intensity and by doing so he opens up debate about his future

It's exceptionally frustrating reading some of the posts on this forum about how Jack will respond to this adversity and come back. Rubbish! He will play a few good games and then go back to his comfort zone. He has had 9 years to respond already. If he was a cat he would be gone by now. Equally frustrating is that MFC would have some strong plans of what to do with the free cap space and the draft pick they would get in return now that we are a newly minted destination club. And I'm sick of hearing all the winging about how he played too early in his career and has scars about being tackled in this 1st game. It's like some supporters think he is the 1st forward in the history of the game to play in his 1st year and get tackled. Blind hope and optimism doesn't help you win a premiership.

Can't see a club picking up Jack to play AFL but can see them putting him around their VFL squad to teach and develop them as a playing coach then moving to an assistant or development role with that club later. Not too different to Matthew Egan who had is career cut short and is now with MFC.

Disagree. That's not the case. Its an unknown as to what Trengrove would have achieved. Trengrove looked promising in his first 2 years before injuries and the weight of the captaincy played its part. Poor injury management and the influence of our 'high performance' coaches and development programs snuffed out any chance of many of our high draft picks reaching their potential. Same would have happened to Martin if he came to the MFC and probably worse given he had/has his own set of issues.

Agree. A 20% CBA increase in the cap means $800k is the same as $650k in the past. And $650k in a few years will be the equivalent of $500K. You also have to pay market rates to get someone decent. Not too much to pay given all defenders can pressure but few can make goid decisions and he will likely be with mfc player the rest of his career

At some point (if he continues) he will go from potential to pretender He is not dissimilar to Colin Sylvia from a football perspective Both had super talent and were high draft picks Both promised a lot Both seemed to have good patches leading up to new contract negotiations Both didn't put in the hard yards to get the most out of their careers
