The level of honesty we get from the club re injuries is really poor. So if they are saying up to 8 weeks then its much longer than that. Don't believe the spin. Was going to be round 1, then round 2/3, then whenever. Serious longer term concerns with Viney now which bring into question the quality of our sports science and medical teams. When are we going to hold them to account? Disgraceful

Caro digs up old wounds of Camp Fiasco on eve of season.
Demons1858 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The only new detail is the suggestion that 14 players complained. The rest is nothing we didnt already know or would assume. Credit to Caro for the smart way she writes even with little new facts Even so, the camp was a stupid idea to begin with -
Happy for this to be dropped. Its a bit of an anti climax when players run onto the G to start the match for the 2nd time.

Dees Drink Own Bathwater According To Malthouse
Demons1858 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Speaking of people who drink their own bath water, Joe would be up there -
Would happily pay overs for a premiership jumper

I dont blame Jack for wanting to come back early most players do. l do blame our sports science team and medical staff for giving him the green light however
-
Wouldnt surprise if he misses round 2
-
Goodwin does seem just a little out of touch with supporters but most importantly he does seem to have strong support from the playing group so l can cut him some slack.Big year for coaching staff this year. Missing finals again this season and the media and supporters will be into them
-
he is no chance for round 1 on that basis. wasnt viney locked in for round 1
-
Totally agree. Clubs are member based organisations and have a duty to be transparent l would have thought
-
if a player gets reinjured or is a liability on return due to a significant lack of fitness then most times that means they returned too soon and most tmes you can blame the sports science team and coaching staff. the 1st viney injury contributed to the 2nd. the club has said this already. also gawn, watts, salem were others to come back too soon or should have played a half or more of vfl first
-
redleg, its more that they mismanaged a heap of injured players last season and the club consistently lies about the injury status of players. results would suggest we arent getting that part of out footy department right for a while now
-
yep, the sports sciece team screwed it up as well as mismanaging many other player last year. its a common theme and they needed to have fixed that department long ago and havent. and the club doesnt treat us with any respect when it comes to accurate injury uodates. we were told viney was definately ready for round 1 by goodwin himself, but not anymore, despite no set backs. well that doesnt make sense. he has either had a set back, hasnt healed as hoped or he wss never going to make it for round 1 and supporters were mislead in order to sell memberships. l know a lot of clubs lie about their pre season injuries but l dont think its respectful to members and supporters and l'm sick of it

who cares
-
not so rubbish now bing
-
hmm ... without being in the inner workings l seemed to have been on the mark ... will go further and say he will also likely miss round 2 but you can keep believing the clubs spin

demonland medicos know our medical and PR departments talk rubbish when memberships are on the line

Post Match Discussion: JLT #1 vs North Melbourne
Demons1858 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
They way we played and moved the ball was impressive and perhaps more important than the result and the opposition we played -
Pennant I get what you are saying but that's why we have some many support staff to make decisions on the players and get them wrong so often. It comes across to me as excuses as to why we stuffed things up. At what point do you say they stuffed things up once too often? Refer to Lucifer's earlier post of more players that also came back from injury. If watts is to busy selling shorts to rehab properly then send him to the VFL to start with. If Gawn is coming back after 10 weeks off then play him for a half then a full game in the VFL first or do more intense training. If Viney says I have a serious foot injury but I'm going to play anyway, then don't let him play as he is our most valuable player and we won't risk him unless we deep into finals already ...
-
Mature aged players (we don't have many of those) seem to be able to draw from fitness reserves and have set standards of performance they seem to be able to maintain when coming back from injury. Our players seem to struggle,. Some time in the VFL should be part of the solution but the club needs to get better at making decision about when to bring them back and at what level. They failed dismally at that the last 2 years maybe 3

At last some independent thought without knee jerk defensive reactions

Have you thought that you might be being just a little precious about the club and the sports science team? Its never nice hearing / reading negative comments but in this case there are facts that warrant at least a review the department. Perhaps I could have expanded on the fact early. Here are some without looking back at the year in detail. 1. viney, gawn, watts all came back clearly underdone 2. viney has had a secondary foot injury that places his career somewhat at risk 3. the team has stalled in the back half of the season for the 2 to 3rd years 4. Salem got a brick on his head and tyson injured himself in some macho SAS course last season to the point where the players bypassed the club to go to their players association
-
your entitled to your opinion but like mine earlier its only an opinion. fact is that.viney gawn and watts struggled and werent fit on return and it cost us. we can look at their stats pre and post injuries if you want some facts
-
lets shut this forum down then if we can't make an observation without being a paid employee. results are what count not inner workings. viney, gawn, watts all came back clearly underdone and it cost us finals. there no acceptable excuse for placed the career of our greatest player asset at risk
