  1. I thought it was telling when Tex said "we hope he makes the right decision and stays" two months back in the media. The bloke sees in b/w and thinks his beliefs are the only correct ones. Clearly doesnt respect that other people have different views and values. Its a "my way or the highway" kind of egotistical caustic leadership. Thats what you get when you promote a dingbat with a mullet into a captain.
  2. Was it terry wallace that said Schache would be the bargain of this century if you can get him for a late first-round pick considering his upside as a #2 pick. We're essentially making the same play on Balic with 45 or so.
  3. Freo will not do pick 64 alone and have asked for 5 pallets of fine wine, cheese and cured meats in exchange for the access we're getting to Balic's Balkan vodka supply. This one could go down to the last day.
  4. Im hearing that Jay Weatherill has given the go ahead on adding Watts to the Power.
  5. How disappointed will you all be if we're only trading watts for a pick to get the Lever deal done and nothing more? Seems like the most likely.
  6. They were teleconferencing with JW who was convincing Fyfe to join Hogan and him down at Geelong with Ablett and Dangerwood
  7. Apparently he's requested a trade back to Vic.
  8. I think it's absurd that they think we should offer draft pick compensation according to the size of our Lever offer, and yet they couldn't fit him into their cap because 650k was their maximum. They want to come out 150k on top in equivalent draft picks when our list is more shallow and aren't stacked with players. We have to pay 800k equivalent in draft picks? This skews the system towards top clubs because we are the ones that come out even and they are the ones that get value that tips them over their 650k cap value. They made no sacrifices by trading out players to give Lever a bigger 800k offer, now they expect to keep the players they didn't trade AND get players worth the extra money? If Danger move to Gold Coast on 1.5million a year, would Geelong expect to get the equivalent in picks and players? That would mean they're getting 700k extra in player talent and GCS are giving up 1.5million. No, I think they should expect to get 800k in value, exactly how they valued him with their cap squeezing.
  9. RE OPEN THE JESSE HOGAN PANIC ROOM!
  10. A shame yes, But romantacism should never ever take priority in list management decisions. It was two years back that we didnt give a farewell game to Jamar because he wasnt ever best 22 that year, have to make tough calls for the greater good going forward.
  11. He's kicked 40-50 goals 5 out of the last 6 years (We'll count a 39g season as 40) what is he meant to be achieving? A coleman medal every year? Not saying he's who we should be targetting, but give the guy some credit.
  12. You're assuming Jack gets an invite from our Adelaide bred coach
  13. Adel chose to not trade a player last year to be able to afford to put a bigger offer to lever that might value him as two first round picks. Instead they offered 530 in the old cba and whinged that he'd be the highest paid player if offered more. Meanwhile theyre stacked with players that delivered a minor premiership. They want their cake and to eat it too. Adel think their paycut system where stars play for peanuts is some kind of morally upstanding system. No, its trying to rig the cap so they stay at the top and never come down. Its a smart thing to do, but it squeezes out players who actually realise they deserve a better pay deal and can get it at a middle tier side that actually deserves young talent to join them and help them rise up the ladder.
  14. Why hasn't anyone in here proposed an alternative (Aside from the ungettable gaff) if they're so quick to dismiss the idea?
  15. Just doing some rough math with Jake Lever's 750k a year contract. It's 6.02% of the salary cap. If we gave them two first round picks and they developed into decent players then they're going to be on 450-550 per year within a few years which is 8.50% of the cap. Whereas #10 and #27 are going to net you a 450-500k a year player and an average to slightly above average players wage at 371k which is going to be around 6.66% of the salary cap. Closer to the mark. Are we paying for his potential? If so then he's going to want 900k a year if he truelly becomes elite. Then that's about 7.23% of the cap. So that would mean Melbourne could possible do a pick swap or upgrade that pick 27 to a pick 22 or so to get the deal done. Two first round picks is still too much.
  16. A Team with Sloane, Tex, Crouch, Betts playing for peanuts while in their premiership window, upset that a young player that will reach his peak in 4 years won't help them deliver more premierships in the future on a peanut pay packet. I feel so much sympathy for them.
  17. I just hope he comes out in Geelong colors next year and turns into the best ducker the game has ever seen, just to spite Goodwin!
  18. Is this karma for the 'go home kid' Cam McCarthy toe poking the winner against us?
  19. I've no idea who Thurley or Stanley are, whenever i watch a Geelong game, all they mention is Dangerwood, Hawkins and Harry with a side serving of Motlop and a sprinkle of Mitch Duncan
  20. It's a smart thing to do, cultivate relationships with players who are drafted by the current successful teams who will not be able to accomodate them in the future due to not trading players like Jenkins who offer something now but nothing in 4 years. A player like Lever would want to play a more prominent role in a team of players who are on a similar development path to him. Not be the icing on the cake of a team full of older established players and take a pay cut to be on the periphery. For eg: Another player who could have a big year next year but there will not be enough money to go around if Richmond are still at the top, might be Daniel Rioli or Sam Powell Pepper if Port stretch their salary cap too far.
  21. Anyone worth targetting here from this vague 'on the couch' graphic DL? I wonder if Puopolo is gettable on a two year contract and if there is any discontent with the rumours about him as trade bait last year. Did not see any Hawk games this year, how did he go?
  22. Aside from him being re-signed. Just thought i'd put it out there that 'On The Couch' had a table of the best pressure players in the comp and Lonie was 3rd for forward half pressure behind Neade and Puopolo and in front of Rioli, Clay Smith, Tipungwati, Garlett, Minchinton, Jed Anderson and Josh Dunkley Not everything is as simple as 'he can't get a game for another club, how could he get a game with us' - Kent played most of the year in the VFL and will get a game with us next year and may prove worthwhile keeping. Where is Kent in the pressure rankings?
