Two Demons Inducted into AFLNT Hall of Fame
Rodney (Balls) Grinter replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Must have also been special for Flash being inducted at the same time as his brother Alwyn: https://www.aflnt.com.au/news/2019/2019-aflnt-hall-of-fame-pays-homage-to-some-of-the-territorys-greatest-football-names-and -
Two Demons Inducted into AFLNT Hall of Fame
Rodney (Balls) Grinter replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well deserved. Loved the way Flash and Whelan played. I wounder if another MFC backman will be inducted in the future. -
Absolutely, but cheating only gets you so far and makes it even better when we stick it right up them. Those goals to T Mac and Kent. How sweet did that feel. ...arr winning how I long for that feeling again.
-
...and May to monster Kennedy I'll also go out on another limb and predict O Mac to rediscover confidence and form to do a job on Darling. I really do question if Lever has the size to play CHB.

Based on us having the feral season we just had, but still nearly knocking them off over there (I actually think we were robbed from recollection) I think we are absolutely a chance. Our recent against WC record in Perth would actually be something like 2 from 4 games, (including the Prelim where a somewhat shagged MFC took on a super fresh and rested WC). Our Demons need to come out with venom in their veins against the West Coast Cheaters.

James Harmes Signs for 5 Years
Rodney (Balls) Grinter replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Another 5 years for Harmes is pretty low risk I would think. He has always been pretty robust injury wise and will tie him up until he is 29ish and would not be expected to loose much pace by them. Love how Harmes breaks lines with his tackle busting bursts out of packs and then gets on his bike and delivers long and deep. The other thing I wonder is if the club has back ended his contract to try and help squeeze in Jack Martin or any other good prospects that might be around over the next few years? -
Cheers Lucifer. From all that I can easily find on the interweb Richardson officially doesn't have a title as yet, but I guess that Senior Assistant would be more or less the role he would be expected to slot into once the dust settles. My question was more who was our Head Asistant Coach season 2019? I think the answer to that might be Brendan McCarthy, but the last position he had was a development role or possibly Jade Rawlings. I thought Rawlings actual last title before departing was as forwards line coach, but he seemed to have the stature around the club as being a senior assistant. Interestingly, Rawlings title at North is actually Senior Assistant Coach. I know a title is just that and people will perform in roles outside of their strict title, but I do wonder if this lack of clear hierarchy under Goodwin was part of the reason for a lack of cohesion which 'apparently' (not sure I buy into this conspiracy one way or another) occured within our coaching ranks this season?

Head Assistant Coach - sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but I guess such a role exists. Out of curiosity, who was ours?

Viney's Northern Adventure with Young Dees
Rodney (Balls) Grinter replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Pre-season is on and we are training the house down!! Seriously does beat the morbidity reading through Demonland late last season though. If guys like Salem and Trac can get that extra bit of fitness and physical conditioning, watch out for the mighty Demons in 2020. -
Each to their own. I guess it could mean different things in different contexts.

IMHO, somewhat contrary to my immediate post, everyone Max, Clarry, T Max, Langdon down should be considered depth. That's where we need to get back to. Perform or find form at Casey Fields.

He might have the worst nicknames in the AFL, but on no planet and no AFL team for that mater is Milkshake a 'depth' player. OMG, one rubbish season and Demonland had gone bananas.

2019 AFL NATIONAL DRAFT ORDER AND SELECTIONS
Rodney (Balls) Grinter replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
My initial reaction to loosing pick 2 to the Gold Coast was to be absolutely spitting chips (like hey, we haven't been shafted enough at the draft by the expansion clubs). But right now I'm kind of at peace with pick 3 and 8. Look back a few years at what picks 4 and 9 got us, how the players taken just before them fared and similar for pick 2 and 3 a few years before that and I think the semi lottery nature of the draft shows it's hand. Makes me think that one first round pick is more or less as good as any other. -
One tactic to combat internal division is to unite the troops behind you by having an external enemy. But this logo thing is not the answer though. What Port really need to do is stick it up Eddy and tell the AFL that they are ditching the teal and will be wearing their prison bars black and white only strip for all home and away games from now on.

In place of one of Hore, Hibberd, Jetta, Lever or May. I think Frosty has the measure of Hore and possibly Hibberd now, Jetta is aging and how often have Lever and May actually been on the park over the past 2 seasons. Given the season we have just had, I would think it's fairly evident that depth is highly valuable, even if it's just for creating pressure for selection.

Clarko would have played under Balme too I'm guessing. -
Clarkson assistant coaches record
Rodney (Balls) Grinter replied to Demonsone's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agreed. There was a time when Malthouse underlings were viewed as the next big thing. Was it that Dew was sought out because he was a Paul Roos protégé? So begs the question who of note was it that tutored Clarko to be the undisputed champion coach of the AFL? He had a fairly short coaching apprenticeship by modern standards. Not disputing that the guy has an enviable record or that some of his assistants have done ok as well, but personally I think some of this Clarko midas touch on assistant coaches is a bit overrated at times. -
Preuss to Work on Forward Craft
Rodney (Balls) Grinter replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Was pretty good against Sydney at the SCG as a forward in patches. Has potential, needs consistency. Major chip on him as a forward is that he gets run off on the rebound too much. Wondering if that's something good team defense could address? -
Our finals exit last year could have been worse..
Rodney (Balls) Grinter replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
And how they fair if they cop a normal share of injuries, they were almost injury free all year from all accounts. The harder draw they get due to finishing 2nd could also make a significant difference. Don't get me wrong, Brisbane have been building over a period and I fully expected them to make the top eight, but I do think they were a little flattered by their top two finish. -

Rodney (Balls) Grinter replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
I understand their goal kicking accuracy in the first half against Richmond was bad, but from watching the second half of that game, they weren't really in it with the general play, with Richmond pretty much dictating the terms the game was played on. -

Rodney (Balls) Grinter replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
On a related note, as good as the Lions were for most of the year, to get bundled out in straight sets is pretty disapointing on the back of two home finals where they had a far greater home ground advantage than we did against our respective opponents last year. At least we stood up and won big moments and big game finals. Not that Hawthorn or Geelong were really that much chop last year, but the way we were playing, I think we would have beaten most other finalists, including WC at the MCG (particularly if they didn't have the luxury of a second week off in 3 weeks). -
Don't ask me, I don't pretend to know. Refer to the Todd Viney is Leaving Confirmed thread.
-
100% Agree Ron. Todd bled red and blue for the MFC and has always come across as having a great team first attitude in the way he wend about his business both on and off the field, as does his son Jack. If the timing was right for both Todd and the MFC to part ways to start the next chapters, then well and good, but any true Demons supporter should be celebrating and expressing gratitude for his contributions. Any MFC people here expressing criticism at this time should be made to stand in the path of a charging Todd Viney hip and shoulder.

Todd Viney: Tough, courageous, loyal servant and great leader of the MFC. Well respected generally in sporting circles including tennis and seen as being of good post football pedigree having played an important off-feild hand in success at Hawthorn and Adelaide. Welcomed back to the MFC with open arms and initially credited with playing a role in our rebuild from the depths. That he refused to put up his hand for the senior coaching gig despite some initial success as caretaker was a sign of both humility and maturity in my mind. Everything rosy 2018 with Taylor and Viney credited as architects of our list rebuild that has bought us back from obscurity to contention. ... Fast forward a year and according to some on Demonland Todd is seen as part of the problem of the failed season we have just endured - see ya, good riddance Todd Viney ? . Adam Yze - Come on down!!
