POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 19

Machiavelli would be a good coach when Goody gives it away. Pity he’s not around any more. -

Nothing to do with it!? If I was umpire, I would have penalised Ablett for jumping on Brayshaw’s back in that last exchange. I wouldn’t have had to pay the block on OMac,when Touhy marked.(because the ball wouldn’t have got down there) When I come to think of it, if I was umpire, we’d never lose a game!!!!
-
If Bugg or Bernie did what Hawkins did tonFitsch, he would have got life! The media would have made a big deal of it( because of previous instances)

Third quarter,6 min to go. 25 m from our goal, Kelly dives on the ball, Salem trips over him, flat on his face. Isnt that a free to Salem.?(30 m out,45degree angle).........v likely a goal, and , in the end, we win.

I don't really like them, too!

Did that happen with the ( not paid) kicking in danger that resulted in a goal to Geelong?

I hope they do something like that but doubt it very much. -
POSTMATCH DISCUSSION - Round 18

I keep cursing that last pathetic rushed left footed shot for goal by JKH. A goal(which it should have been), and we win. No score at all....the ball stays down our end...probable stoppage. Out on the full.....Geelong would have more difficulty clearing straight up the centre with a long kick. Bouncing OOB....stoppage...win to the Dees. Worst possible result... a point, and possession for Geelong with the 10 m square plus a long kick up the middle. Uncanny similarity to the '87 Prelim last quarter, and esp. the last 30 sec. -
Have another look. Jetta turned to look back at the ball just before he made contact. I think that is why he got the benefit of the doubt. Lucky, but the only luck we got, apart from the Gawn bump off the ball, where I'm sure ?Blitzas accidentally ran into him, and Max sure made the most of it, though it took him by surprise. Two lucky ones to us. At least 5 to them. "umpires don't affect the results"......phooey!

POSTMATCH DISCUSSION - Round 18
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very well put, Lord T. And I thought Hogan took a definite mark, THEN had his arms chopped(directly in front). Did anyone else notice the Geelong defender dive on the ball(directly in front of goal) and trip our bloke(? Harmes)(I think in Q3),....no free. -
Quoting Moonshadow....."Smart play by Danger" Yeah. Someone should try it at every stoppage near the goals. Really good football to watch. If the umpire had the "feel" for the game, he would have noted that it was extremely unusual for Danger to ruck against a guy a foot taller( thus taking himself out of the scramble for the ball near the goals). He should have made sure all players involved knew who was nominated for the ruck. It is noticeable that players don't hear the ump call "play on" when they're on the mark, though TV viewers hear it clearly from their microphones.Brayshaw had no hope....though he should cut bigger "ear-holes" in his helmet. Dangerfield does sometimes ruck, but against the "stand-in" ruckman.
-
That was a definite 50m, if not a report, with Hawkins' record.
-
What!!!???? What about the mysterious ruck free to Hawkins for a goal, the chopped arms ( still a mark ) to TMac dead in front, and the 50 against Harmes as he desperately tried to get away, resulting in a goal??? Also there was a trip by a Geelong player diving on the ball, also dead in front. We were lucky on one occasion when Jetta interfered running back with the flight, though he tried to watch the ball.

vanders launches long bomb from the middle

Big Max launched a toro early this season. So did the Trac. Torps banned, of course.( they cause too much confusion in opposition defence.) -
Bernie got 3 Brownlow votes 2 years in a row tagging Pendlebury. He also did a great job on Danger during a win v. Adelaide at AO. For some reason they don’t seem to use him as a tagged now.
-
I'm in doubt about tonight's game. If Adelaide win, they'll still be in the finals hunt, and play us in 2 weeks, over there. If they get knocked off tonight, they're 3 games from the eight. Time to send your injured players for their operations to prepare for 2019. However..... if Geelong win, they'll become harder for us to catch in the race for the finals. If we don't beat Footscray, this is academic. I'm very worried about the games in Geelong, Adelaide and Perth, where the opposition have 25(?26) in their side.

Wayne isn't all that smart.

Can anyone else see likeness to the young Pendlebury? Wouldn't it be great if he develop;ed into a player of that class!

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 16
Jumping Jack Clennett replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I reckon we’ve created a problem for ourselves with the selection of Petty last match. It hardly seems fair to drop him after one game. Few players star in their first game, especially big blokes. BUT........winning this game is crucial. We MUST pick our best possible side(as we should have last week). Worry about the future when our finals chances are over. -
He was in a moonboot when he got hypnotised at the Foundation heroes dinner the day after QB.

It is crucial that we put in a request not to have(WA umpire) Dean Margetts when we play the Eagles in Perth. Did anyone else notice how he seemed intent on bringing WCE back into the game when they were way behind against Essendon last Thursday? Normally comments on umpires from me are not worth reading, since I’m so one-eyed Melbourne. I can’t stand Essendon, but I thought the umpiring in that game was disgracefully biased against them. I guess it’s not deliberate bias, but it’s a cowardly tendency of some umpires to be influenced by the “ crowd affirmation”, which is worse there than anywhere else....even Geelong. Margetts( why does that remind me of “maggots” )was the worst, and if he’s in charge again, I’m betting on the Eagles.
