  1. He was in a moonboot when he got hypnotised at the Foundation heroes dinner the day after QB.
  2. It is crucial that we put in a request not to have(WA umpire) Dean Margetts when we play the Eagles in Perth. Did anyone else notice how he seemed intent on bringing WCE back into the game when they were way behind against Essendon last Thursday? Normally comments on umpires from me are not worth reading, since I’m so one-eyed Melbourne. I can’t stand Essendon, but I thought the umpiring in that game was disgracefully biased against them. I guess it’s not deliberate bias, but it’s a cowardly tendency of some umpires to be influenced by the “ crowd affirmation”, which is worse there than anywhere else....even Geelong. Margetts( why does that remind me of “maggots” )was the worst, and if he’s in charge again, I’m betting on the Eagles.
  3. That’s the whole point. There will be no significant “ noise of affirmation”. There will be as many St K supporters as Melb supporters. Crowd influence on umpires will be evened out. This is one of the reasons we are at a huge disadvantage to the Interstate clubs and Geelong. We are at a similar disadvantage ( to playing interstate) on OUR OWN HOME GROUND against Collingwood, Richmond,Hawthorn, even Carlton...... but we have a chance of overcoming that in the long term future, IF we can become a strong club with greatly increased membership, and numbers of supporters at home games.( and NOT selling home games) To achieve this, the talented on-field group we have at present have to put together successive highly successful seasons to attract people to our club.
  4. Last night it wasn't just 4/3 times the mystery and confusion, but double the "crowd affirmation"!!!!! 6 frees to nil in the forward 50 when it was in our forward 50 for 65% of the game, and I doubt that included the questionable 70m penalty v. OMac, which occurred in the back 50. Holier than thou contributors will preach that the umpires don't affect the outcome of matches. I reckon we'd have won with umpiring not crowd-influenced, despite not taking advantage of our chances in the forward line.
  5. He was! Offered me a bottle of wine! Not accepted, of course!
  6. A three yr old Dee supporter now has become a member!
  7. As an MCC/ MFC premium member ,I am entitled to a membership for a child under 15. I don’ t have anyone to give it to. Please send me a personal message if it’s any use to anyone.
  8. Till this week! He played v. the Hawks. I reckon he's been under-rated. Hawthorn gave him the job on Buddy once! He didn't do a bad job.
  9. Multiplies the mystery and confusion by 4/3.
  10. I forgot to add that continued success might increase our chances of becoming a “destination club”.We did well to attract Lever. Gaff looks a possibility. Could Jack V. persuade his mate Ollie to jump on the band-wagon?
  11. At last the Demons seem to have unearthed some genuine AFL stars, and are playing attractive, successful football. If we can continue in this vein I can see several ways that our success will feed on itself, and we could develop into a big, successful club again. 1. If we can keep going late into September, it will bring back many thousands of previously lukewarm supporters to become members again. With our MCG/MCC connections,60,000 should not be unattainable in a couple of years. 2.Continued success increases our chances of Fri night games, which helps greatly with attracting sponsors. 3. More sponsors ease the financial pressures, and we can stop selling games interstate, which has always put us at a huge disadvantage. 4. Continued success will bring more Demon supporters to our games, At present, at our home games on the MCG against Richmond, Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton, Hawthorn, Geelong....even North and Sydney sometimes, we are outnumbered by opposition supporters. When we play interstate clubs on the MCG, the crowds are small, and there isn’t the “ cauldron of hatred “ for the opposition that Geelong,Adelaide and Perth clubs benefit from. It’s obvious that umpires are swayed by crowds containing supporters of one club only. We are often adversely affected by this. It all depends on the Demons becoming a strong, successful team, and this Monday we can continue this upward trend. I can’t wait, and I’m confident our boys will give it a red hot go, and clean up the Mudpies!
  12. Of course another factor is the frees that AREN’T paid, which cannot be easily analysed statistically. If it could, it would show even greater advantage to WCE. St K coach, Richardson, calls it the “ noise of affirmation”, in Perth, where possible frees to WCE are met with a roar from the crowd, whereas a similar incident with a StK player occurs in a vacuum of silence,so no free is paid. It is similar with deliberateOOB and running too far. The stats on recent StK/WCE games were quoted, revealing enormous pro WCE bias. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t worse for Melbourne.
  13. We haven't played at the MCG much in the last 6 weeks, and I think the Membership booth there is the best place to attract new members. I'm hoping for a big sign-up outside gate three next Monday. There has been a lot of publicity about what a great style of footy we play, and how we're likely to play deep into September. Surely that will attract a few late joiners.
  14. It’s trachoma they’re trying to eradicate, and Demon supporter, Prof Hugh Taylor, is at the forefront of Melbourne’s input, using indigenous AFL Demons to advise the people from surrounding areas.
  15. We got 6 goals from kick ins. Were they Bernie’s kick ins? He definitely have one away.
  16. Garlett was brilliant in the Alice last year v the Suns
