Farewell Jesse Hogan
I think the problem some have with this idea of trading Hogan is that they don't have a solution in place. So Freo just offer us two picks and Cerra? Does the club even want that deal? And if we get that deal, do we even want high picks at this stage or do they want to trade them on? Who is the player available that a club wants to give up so easily for those picks? There is no solution, it's pure hypothetical that is based on nothing. In fact, the thread was started by a shallow poster having a whinge. It wasn't even based on the go home factor which is what others are now trying to hang their hat on.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
This is off topic, but we actually don't have many players from interstate anymore. Billy Stretch and Dean Kent are two that come to mind outside of Hogan, but the rest of our gun players are all Victorian. Smart recruiting I reckon. Anyway, I don't want this to devolve into anything more than it is. You guys want to talk about the hypothetical of Hogan going home, even though all indications point to the contrary, then go right ahead. You can also knock yourself out on that one as well. I'll stick by my opinion that it's a pointless conversation when there is zero indication that he wants to go back to WA and in doing so it's slightly disrespectful to the bloke and his value to our footy club. Cheers.

Can I start one on Oliver, then? You know, in case he one day requests a trade? Or do we start one on every interstate player on our list? I'm just going by your logic above, Moonie.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I posted that same thing yesterday, Moonie. I made it very clear that if he indicated that he wanted to go home then I'd expect the club to come up with a suitable trade to get it done. I'd be disappointed in him leaving, but at the same time we would at least get something in return. My point is that, outside of that, we shouldn't be considering trading him. We don't need to trade him - our list is strong, we have good coverage across the ground and we have a young list that is maturing together. Why we would trade him outside of a need to go home is what I don't understand. We don't need to do it.

I could reply with the same gif re: those who would consider trading him.

Don't forget your question marks. And I see you don't have a replacement for him. Cheers.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Is he? Who can replace him with? Where do we get the 47 goals from? I look forward to this answer.

You just answered your own question.

Apparently it isn't as important as squeezing in a bloke who has kicked 2 goals in 2 games. (And, for the record, I've loved Weid's output in the last two games.)

Me either. I would have liked him at the club, but if someone like North are offering godfather type money, then we need to step away and either look elsewhere or continue to back in others to improve.

Nothing emotional in it my friend. Just the facts.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
If the thread was entitled 'Hogan's best position going forward' then I'd agree. But when the coach shoots down any chance of him being traded then what's the point of discussing it? Should we start a thread on every player and get some discussion going on how we might trade them as well? He was never going to be traded and, unless he wants out, the club will never consider it.

I wouldn't call them emotional outragists, Moonie. I'd just call them posters who see what Jesse brings to the team and how good the 1-2 punch of T Mac and Hogan could be for years and years to come. I'll add that, if he gave the club some indication that he wants to go back home, then I'd expect the club to follow up on a suitable trade to get that done. But if he doesn't then I'd suggest the club would not be looking at doing anything with him other than getting him fit and ready to fire in 2019.

He is our leading goal kicker and we were still the highest scoring side in the comp with him in it. Anyway, I don't know why we're worried about where Hogan plays right now. We should be focused on finals and enjoying that.

Those asking to trade Jesse better not be the ones in the next few years who get stuck in to a player for lack of loyalty if they don't sign a contract. We can't be so blase in just wanting to ship a player off and then cry foul when another doesn't want to sign. It works both ways.

Imagine coming back to Victoria... to play for Norf. I guess they had to get someone on the hook with all that money. They've missed on everyone else.

Also, while it's hard to argue that his output is lower against Top 8 sides, our output across the board has been lower against those sides as well. Apart from 5-6 players, everyone is down on their contribution this season when playing those top sides, so it's not as if he's on his own in this. If the midfield isn't giving us much, and the defense is able to get back in numbers, what chance does he have? I know Tom has been a little better in this regard than Jesse, but then he didn't play the Geelong, Richmond or Hawthorn games earlier in the season either, and thus has spent more time playing the bottom 8 sides than the top 8 sides.

That stat changes all the time depending on who is in the 8. He has kicked 4 against the Cats this year and they've spent most of the season inside the eight.

What report is that, Moonie? All I've read is that someone asked Worsfold about him, he played a straight bat with the answer and the Sun ran with a report that they are targeting him. Doesn't seem like a whole lot in it to me.
