  1. Are there? You and a couple of others doesn't constitute 'many' in my book.
  2. Article on the HUN saying the same thing. Wonder how we swing a decent deal with our first pick being in the 30s?
  3. Lots of big words in there, Shakespeare. Well done. Some think even reasonable discussion of trading a contracted player who has given no indication of wanting out as stupid. Yes, it can be stupid. Others, which included myself much earlier in the thread, went over the top in our defence of Jesse and our belief that this thread is stupid. As I said, plenty from both sides.
  4. Reasonable discussion can still be full of stupidity. There's been plenty from both sides.
  5. He has been in the system for 6 years now and there is nothing to suggest that output will change. I'd agree otherwise, but he has been playing AFL for long enough to show more than he has. I can't see Goodwin being interested but I've been wrong before.
  6. One thing that might also work against us looking at Mayes is his hardness around the contest. We know how Goody likes his players to work super hard, put pressure on, lay tackles etc. and I don't think Mayes brings this on game day. It's why Garlett can barely get a look in these days. For a quick comparison, I looked at Christian Salem's stats compared to Mayes' stats from 2017, which is the last time he played a full season and both these players spend most of their time at half back. Salem has had 78 tackles for the year. In 2017, playing across half back, Mayes had just 38. That's less than 2 a game. I know that's a very small sample size, but I just don't think Mayes really fits the profile of a player Goodwin would be interested in. I just want to stick an edit in here as I feel some might think I cherry picked a little with Salem as he is pretty tough around the contest. So I looked at Jayden Hunt as well, who in 2017 played pretty much the whole year off half back. He had 69 tackles.
  7. I'd back them in too, Moonie. If they recruited him and wanted to use him off half back then I'd get behind the decision - after all, our track record of late has been terrific and, as you say, our culture and development has improved out of sight. I'd still be super surprised if we had any interest in him but if we did then I'd support the decision based on our track record from the last few seasons.
  8. I don't think any of us would be against it - the bloke is a very handy ruckman and we've been crying out for some time for a back up to Max, not a stop gap like Pedersen or T Mac. What I'm interested in is what we have in store for him - are we guaranteeing him game time? He spent all year in the VFL and I can't see him slotting in to our side either, so I'm curious as to what discussions we are having with him that have him interested in playing for us next season.
  9. Maybe, but prior to Melksham coming to the club he was still a best 22 player. Sam Mayes is barely a best 30 player at the Lions. That's a big difference to me. Not to mention the inside knowledge Goodwin had of Melksham before we traded for him. He knew exactly what we were getting and we are now reaping the rewards of that. We don't have the same intel or knowledge on Mayes. And it's for that reason that I can't see the club pursuing him in any manner over the off season.
  10. The bloke couldn't get a run with a bottom four side. Why would we look at him? I think we've moved past taking rejects that can't crack a game at their club. Lately we've generally recruited players like Lever, Melksham, Hibberd etc who were all established players, or taken punts on players (like Balic) who only had a year or two in the system. Mayes has had plenty of time in the system and not done a whole lot with it. I can't see us having any interest in him at all.
  11. This is not directed at you Febes, as you only posted the article which is relevant to the topic, but that's rubbish from Jay Clark. It's based on a hunch he has, and that Freo might enquire. Bloody brilliant, Jay. Melbourne might enquire about Buddy, but where does that get you? There are no quotes, no clear links, nothing. Just Jay Clark trying to get stay relevant and failing miserably.
  12. Preuss would be a terrific get, but would he want to play the same role he has currently at North Melbourne? With Hogan, Tom Mac and Weideman, plus Gawn, I can't see Preuss getting a regular run in the senior side, which is what he has had to put up with this year. Going by that, I highly doubt he would have any interest in just changing the VFL side he is playing for. There are other clubs where he would get far more game time than with us and you would think that's where he'll go.
  13. I don't think they have at all. I mean, why would they? They have a happy, contracted and loyal player at their club - why would they feel the need to weigh up his market value? It seems counter productive to me. Their job is to find talent and keep talent on the list, not weigh up their market value in case someone decides to leave. That would come when he does indicate that he wants to leave. If that ever were to happen then that is the time when they look at his market value. Why bother doing it before hand? Market value changes constantly, from player injuries/performance to what other clubs have done on the market themselves. It's the same in any sport. At the end of the day, none of us actually know what is happening behind closed doors, and it isn't just with the trade period. That goes for team changes, training, discussions etc, something you and I have agreed upon many times. This is no different. But, to me, it makes far more sense that they wouldn't bother looking at the market value of their own players until they absolutely had to, either because a player wants out or because they want to move somebody on. Until then they would be concentrating on their development as a person and as a Melbourne player.
  14. Hardly Moonie. As the above post suggests I'm not the only one who thinks debating the hypothetical value of a contracted, loyal player is a little ridiculous.
  15. Will always love Bernie. Someone uploaded this years back but I've always loved it and, to me, sums up how quickly he fell in love with the club.
  16. I didn't deny there weren't 'seeds'. My point is the 'seeds' are there because others are trying to connect dots that just aren't there. Clearly Jesse doesn't to go home, we don't want him to go and his manager has said the same thing. It's the media who go "Hogan is from WA, I reckon he might go home one day" that get these rumours going. You can start anything if you like. And you are the dill that said 'anything is possible'. I was just going by your inane rules as to why we should start a thread on anyone if 'anything is possible'. I applaud how well you are clutching to a sinking ship, but the Hogan going home stuff is quickly running out of steam. In fact, the only ones keeping it going are posters like you who refuse to concede.
  17. The seeds are there because people decide they are there. Clearly the bloke loves being at the club and loves living in Melbourne. The seeds are planted by those who need something to write about. Outside of signing another deal, what else does he need to do? This 'anything is possible' stuff to justify you continuing to waffle on about it is rubbish. If anything is possible, then why not start a thread on every player leaving because, you know, anything is possible. It's tripe.
  18. Which Ablett? The one who had spent his time at Hawthorn on a wing? Can't really be classed as a key forward when traded as he wasn't playing there at Hawthorn. Fev was a disgrace and Carlton couldn't wait to get rid of him. Same with Barry Hall, who was traded twice. Kennedy went for Judd and wasn't as established, at the time, as Hogan is now. Outside of maybe Buddy, Templeton and Lockett, none of the above really fit Hogan. That's just three. Unless a club gives us something stupid, Hogan stays. Hypothesising about a club doing that seems so strange to me, yet here we are.
  19. Thank God for that. He'd be no good to us sitting down.
  20. Ha ha, forgot to add the 'example' bit at the top. Could you imagine the melt down if I started one? Wouldn't go down well.
  21. Thought I'd make a new thread in case Clarry goes home. Here's how we could start it: So it seems, going by the 'Trade Hogan' thread, that it's okay for us to discuss hypothetical trades on players in case they want out of the club. You just never know when that may happen. We don't know what's going on inside their head, we don't know if they want a sea change and we can't believe a thing they say or that the club says. I mean, of course they'll be positive about the players, so don't listen to them at all. They don't know what they're talking about. Oliver may request a trade to Hawthorn, or Richmond, or Collingwood. Does anyone know who he supported as a kid? He may go there as well. I mean, this is based on nothing guys, but he may go one day. So it's good to have trade ideas and hypotheticals here that the club won't listen to just in case. So what do we want? 9 first rounders? I'd love to know so I can be at ease with his decision if he ever makes it. And don't tell me off, I'm allowed to discuss hyotheticals about required players who have given no indication of wanting out. It's might right. Cheers. Edit - forgot to add that this is just an example of what we should be doing for all players going by the logic of some in this thread. Bloke had given no indication of going home, yet we should be discussing hypotheticals. Madness.
  22. Only if he absolutely wanted to go home and, even then, I'd take Cerra instead of Brayshaw if we could. Picks do nothing for me at the moment as we're a finals side so, unless the club had further deals in place, I wouldn't be too keen on it. Outside of that the club, Hogan himself etc have said he is super happy at the club and he doesn't want to go home. Go right ahead, OD. I don't know why you would waste your time on it, but hey, if it makes people happy, then discuss 'em until your hearts content.
  23. I think the problem some have with this idea of trading Hogan is that they don't have a solution in place. So Freo just offer us two picks and Cerra? Does the club even want that deal? And if we get that deal, do we even want high picks at this stage or do they want to trade them on? Who is the player available that a club wants to give up so easily for those picks? There is no solution, it's pure hypothetical that is based on nothing. In fact, the thread was started by a shallow poster having a whinge. It wasn't even based on the go home factor which is what others are now trying to hang their hat on.
  24. This is off topic, but we actually don't have many players from interstate anymore. Billy Stretch and Dean Kent are two that come to mind outside of Hogan, but the rest of our gun players are all Victorian. Smart recruiting I reckon. Anyway, I don't want this to devolve into anything more than it is. You guys want to talk about the hypothetical of Hogan going home, even though all indications point to the contrary, then go right ahead. You can also knock yourself out on that one as well. I'll stick by my opinion that it's a pointless conversation when there is zero indication that he wants to go back to WA and in doing so it's slightly disrespectful to the bloke and his value to our footy club. Cheers.
  25. Can I start one on Oliver, then? You know, in case he one day requests a trade? Or do we start one on every interstate player on our list? I'm just going by your logic above, Moonie.
