Good grief, the SEN reporter at the GF parade in his infinite wisdom has just asked Mark Blake 'Are you disappointed to be missing out on playing in a Grand Final?'.... Pathetic journalism at its very worst...
-
Well sounds like these are all off the mark, and Mathew Knights is to be announced as coach. SEN have just crossed to Anthony Hudson who says its all but done and dusted as of this morning… So much for all the 'reliable sources' 'in the know' and 'on good authority' sources and scoops on here...

If you were unfortunate enough to witness '58, it means you at least did get to witness the early 60s...

Actually Moore won the second of his Brownlows at us, a rare feat for players to win a Brownlow at two clubs. Could history repeat itself if Judd came to Melbourne and won a second Charlie? Templeton had a handful of good games for the Dees, if that, what a bust!

I think it's great that the club has posted tributes to the two high-profile delistees, Godders and Wardy, a very nice sentiment: Godders: http://melbournefc.com.au/Season2007/News/...px?newsId=51055 Wardy: http://melbournefc.com.au/Season2007/News/...px?newsId=51117 Well done to both of them for squeezing as much out of their abilities as they could over the journey...

Because the Sylvia one was in the middle of the season and players should know better than to go out midweek and end up drunk in the wee small hours then. After the season finishes, in their own time, go for it. And yes, unfortunately it wasnt an isolated incident for Sylvia, he's a repeat offender.

Conversely, all or a lot of the NRL coaches are suggesting their code adapt the AFLs finals blueprint. They are using the old McIntyre Finals system that the AFl ditched some years ago. The Storm who finished games clear on top had to play the Broncos, 1 v 8, the Broncos lost more games than they won, yet the storm lost 3 all year, such was the gulf between 1st and 8th. And all weekend, there was uncertainty and confusion about who would survive the first weekend of results. Its just too confusing the old way and I think they now have it right...

Who will be the new assistant coaches?
DemonDave replied to Diehard Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Primus is an assistant coach at Port currently, as is Adam Kinglsey, they sat 3 rows in front of me at the G on Sunday. Doubt he'd be going anywhere as apparently he took over the post match when Choke-o went for the birth of his kid and did a good job. He's a Port man through and through. -
What absolute balderdash. Give me an example where a Sandy listed player ignored a Melbourne listed player today. You dont win 3 flags by having '2' sets of teams out there not playing with each other. The reason that we won those flags is because of the cohesiveness of the alignment. To me, the reason Sandy lost today was because they took an arrogant attitude into the match, time and again they tried to take opponents on and do the flashy things, where the immense pressure meant they coughed it up, the opposition went long and direct and invariably punished us. Newton and Sautner are too similar, both try for the big selfish speccies, and get in each others way. Newton is as much to blame is Sauntner is, if he's good enough he shouldve still found a way to work with Saunts. His miss from 15 out in the 3rd was unfogiveable at a crucial time too. A terribly disappointing day, have we now seen the last of a few players today?

Colin Sylvia wont even finish in the Top 10, come on be realistic! For mine: 1)Jones 2) Junior 3)White 4)Green 5)Brown Brown Dog to take out best clubman one more time Newton to get Most Improved Petterd to get Best First Year Player

I caught a bad dose of Septopia off a mosquito when I was in Thailand once. The doctors thought they might have to amputate a limb, as the Septopia was really agressive, but it eventually cleared up

Given his form over the last 4 weeks, there's no way Tom Paterakis would miss out on this team, so I'd be guessing it would be: Hughes, T Johnston, S Martin, Paterakis. Definitely a much stronger looking team this week, see you at Port Melbourne!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but dont you need to have served the club for 10 years or 200 games to qualify for life membership? Or is it purely at the clubs discretion who it gives the award to? Having said that I'm rapt at this swift appointment, welcome back to the club Chris!

I've been very impressed with the application of Stefan Martin the last two games, on the strength of those I'd rate him a fair chance to get rookie listed by the demons next year. Anyone else rate his chances?

I think that is the single highlight of the year (along with Juice's towering mark) for me. He dashed forward earlier in the first quarter, frantically waving for the footy to be kicked to him, but I think it was Robbo didnt see him. As soon as he swooped on that half forward line, you knew it was his destiny to kick that goal. His celebrations showed what playing the game and representing the Dees meant to him, a true inspiration. Thanks for the memories, Brown Dog!

'Fonzie' Demetriou, never one to admit he's wrong. Good on Terry Walllace for his comments, which were of course typically turned around and made into criticism of Richmond by the Fonz.
-
And I'm assuming that Paul Wheatley was the stand-by emergency for Melbourne and thats the reason he didnt play on Saturday too?

Why oh why are Spurs continually shooting themselves in the foot when in likely match-winning situations? That 3-3 result was a disaster, you could've heard a pin drop amongst all the supporters in the pub when the equaliser went in. The big plus though is Gareth Bale, this kid can seriously play! Oh, and Chelsea conceding two against of all teams Villa has to be the season highlight so far!

Like 95% of left-footers, he's very 'one-sided'. This will be a problem, but most other left-footers tend to find ways around this shortcoming (have you ever seen Greg Tivendale kick right-footed? he runs angles that means he never has to even attempt his right foot). To Bode's credit, he did get one kick away on his non-preferred foot, however it did go straight to the Carlton backmen inside our attacking 50... I think he will be a good depth player next year, certainly nowhere near out best 22 but someone that we know can comfortably play at this level if need be....

I can't believe this is deemed worse than Schneider/Buchanan whichever one it was's bump from last week!

Sandringham v Williamstown - Qualifying Final
DemonDave replied to Beach Road Bazza's topic in Melbourne Demons
Zebras went down gallantly today by 2 points, just got back from a sun-drenched TBO. We were up at half time by 2 or 3 goals, but conceeded 10 to 3 in a disastrous 3rd quarter to be trailing by 30odd points at the last break . After a stirring speech by Mark Williams at the huddle, and inspired by a spectacular one-man show by Nick Sauntner the Zebs came back to hit the front, but were unable to hold on for the win. Which means we now play North Ballarat next week, who came from a mile down to beat the Bendigo Bummers. There werent too many shining lights for the Demons listed players, Garland was barely sighted, Neville would've had 2-3 touches, Warnock was just OK, Neaves had a heap of the footy but was wasteful at times, Hughes was lively and provided a good target all day across half forward and thats probably it. -
Agreed he'll never be a first choice ruckman, the Swans learned the hard way when they realised after last year that he wasnt.Once Ball retired all his shortcomings were re-exposed. And we laugh all the way to the bank as we get to look forward to Lynden Dunne carve out a career for the next ten years, while Jolly will languish at Punt Road or Princess Park. We defintely did the right thing by trading him away for a first round pick. Who cares if someone is a Premiership player? Byron Pickett was a Premiership and Norm Smith medallist, Peter Vardy a premiership player, none of those players brought us success just because they were on our list.

But what about a bit of respect for his loyal deputy and Melbourne in holding back the secret until Monday? What difference will it make if he was in the coaches box this weekend for their game against a decimated Shockers side?....

To put it into persepective for the young 'uns, its like Simon Godfrey or Ryan Ferguson getting a senior coaching gig 15 years down the track, no offence to those two guys but thats about where Bailey was in Essendons pecking order back then in terms of skill and leadership...
