  1. The AFL are listed as the 'developer' of these apps. If you look in the store all teams apps are available and they're all identical. So as part of their new rights deal I'd say Telstra have been asked to create apps which are effectively mobile version of all the sites, replete with Telstra logos plastered all over... With regards to the membership cards, there would be no cost justification to reprint them wholesale. Already they'd be reprinting letterheads/stationary, as well as all the clothing/guernseys and advertising material.
  2. Clearly the 18 Recruiting Chiefs and the hundreds of talent spotters that work under them disagree with your opinions. But thanks for the offer Miles. Apportioning blame for our current malaise cannot rest solely on one coaches shoulders. However, having said that clearly our biggest weakness at the moment is our midfield, its structure and accountability is almost non existent right now. The senior coach has the ultimate say, so he needs to be held just as accountable.
  3. Im prepared to cut Morton a little slack in that it was his first hitout at senior level since last year, the gulf in standard between VFL and AFL cannot be underestimated enough. Tapscott was in the same boat yesterday too. I still cant understand why one of them was not the starting sub.
  4. This thread has morphed into a positive ray of light around here in these dark days, I love it! All because I commented on the punny headline from a serious news story.. Carry on...
  5. Clearly this is the reason Davey has been picked ahead of Couch. Couch is too similar to Magner and McKenzie, at least Davey offers pace, if he gets near the ball. You'd think the backline matchups would be: Frawley on Riewoldt Rivers on Vickery Sellar on Miller Garland on Nahas Bartram on Edwards Of those matchups, both Frawley & Riewoldt are out of form. Rivers is a worry on Vickery. Sellar the equal of Miller (both good ordinary players) so we virtually break even if all goes to plan. I wouldve thought Dunn has done more than Petterd in the two games this year, so not surprised at that choice at all. The emergencies are a worrying sign of our lack of depth right now. A slow rapidly declining forward, an error prone offcast backman and an extremely raw ruckman. Put Sylvia, Moloney, Jurrah in that side and I'd be confident we'd beat this mob. Not so sure with this side.
  6. Mitch Clark kicked 5 goals last week. Ben Hudson is dropped this week. Do people still regard Matthew's opinion too highly?
  7. "Lamb choice cut for Dees" Ugh, who's the funnyman writing these puntastic titles for these articles, Ugly Dave Gray? So does he replace Prendergast, or was his a different title?
  8. Err yes that would be wingman not ruckman. Typo on my part. And it was the GF, not round 22 as others have pointed out where he played fullback on Dunstall. the gloveman himself Tony Campbell was the one i was thinking of! (heres an Age article on Stretchers predicament that dark day: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1300&dat=19880926&id=rcRYAAAAIBAJ&sjid=65YDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6073,4923604) Memo to self - never try to post replies on while hurriedly walking somewhere at the same time. You cant think, type and walk all at once!
  9. Also quite liked taking the odd hanger did Stretcher! Trying to think who best to compare him to to give people too young an idea of how he played. Its a bit hard as there are very few 'true' wingmen going around nowadays. Maybe an Andrew Embley? Also famously played on and beat Jason Dunstall as a makeshift fullback in Round 22 one year, then followed it up with a respectful performance a week later on Dunstall again in the finals.
  10. Any updates on Strauss' injury absence? It has been reported that he copped a knock to the head two weeks ago, yet the official injury lists in the papers have him listed as "leg". Does this mean he is suffering soreness in the leg he broke as Brown and Barlow both did upon their comebacks?
  11. Checked my install of the app this morning and unfortunately still has the logos. Checked for updates of apps and it wasnt there. I know the club have bigger things to worry about right now, but it would be good if one of their social media developers gets onto this, wouldnt be that big a job to udpate. As for what this app does, gives you a quick easy way to access all of the useful content of our website, its a great little app!

    NBA

Just discovered this thread! Still love the NBA. Its a bit more palatable this year with a shortened schedule too, the normal season is just too long for mine, 82 games! Not as bad as the MLB I guess. I'm a Spurs man, have been since The Admiral got drafted and I decided I needed a team so thats how I chose Spurs. Great to see Patty Mills getting some court time and hit 7 points yesterday for SA. The Spurs and Thunder are clearly the teams to beat out West, the Spurs will be keen to atone for last years first round ousting after being #1 seed at the hands of Memphis. In the East, its pretty clear Chicago and Miami are the two standouts. Some of the rookie class from this year have been pretty good too, Irving as mentioned and Ricky Rubio, although now done for the year with injury, was a joy to watch with his sublime passing game. Roll on the playoffs!
  13. I always find the release of the first rounds team so much more exciting than any other round. Always used to throw up a surprise. Remember when Isaac Weetra was selected one year? And both Cockatoo-Collins twins to play against north another? I guess Tynan is the only moderate 'smokie' this year...
  14. McDonalds best at this stage is still better than Sellars best. Difference being McDonald is wildly inconsistent as he relies so heavily on confidence. Sellar to me is a good average footballer, a CHB/FB equivalent of Brad Miller. The Crowbots couldnt coax a consistent high standard of football out of him, thats not to say we cant, but i have my doubts.
  15. Im surprised I didnt enunciate my feelings about Bennell better. I think he's nowehere near our best 22, he has barely improved at all since his first game. We cannot continually carry a passenger who gets so few posessions. But the reason I was surprised is because he seems to continually be somehow in favor at match committee meetings. Id rather see Tynan, Taggert and their ilk get games this year ahead of him. Borderline 22 for mine. Besides being 'big' and 'solid' with a booming kick, he is not yet in our best 22 for mine as he's still learning where he fits in at the top level. Is he a forward? A Backman? Or a midfielder? At this stage I just dont know. Size alone doesnt equate to a good footballer automatically. Brad Miller showed that. Our best 22 on Saturday is really only short Sylvia, Jurrah and Petterd maybe for mine, who would probably replace Tynan, Blease and Bate. Still, thats only my view.
  16. No real surprises apart from maybe bennell missing out, given he posted most pre season games. I guess gysberts & tapscott will need another week or two at casey which I'm not that concerned about as they are borderline best 22 at the moment anyway. Roll on saturday!
  17. A beautiful service for a beautiful man. Found it hard to keep it together when his brother Brian spoke. Also spotted Nathan Carroll, Wheatley in the crowd amongst us. A few of us went across to Young & Jacksons to have a pint of Guinness in his honor, whaddya know the other half of the pub is full of old teammates: Febey, Febey, White, Strawbs, Cuthbertson, B Lovett, Lovell, Kowall, Grinter, Viney, Lamprill, Hopgood, Seecamp, O'Donnell, Eishold, Beveridge,Tingay etc etc... It was very surreal having a beer in the company of these past MFC players.
  18. So what would some people rather have seen last year, 18 games from Junior or 15 from Gysberts or similar?
  19. The Swans have been more willing than most over the last ten years to swap away their first and/or second round picks to grab ready made players theyve identified that are struggling to find a niche at other clubs. The Swans have done this to remain in or thereabouts the 8, as hey know their market will quickly lose interest in attending Swans games if they are not winning. Over the last couple of years the bigger clubs on the cusp of success have followed this method, think Hawthorn with Gunston, Hale & Gibson, Pies with Jolly and Ball, Cats with Ottens etc.

    NFL

Gee the Broncos didnt really get much in the trade for Tebow either did they? Considering how big "Tebowmania" was during their playoff run this year, youd think he would have a bit more currency. I guess he preferred to be in a 'big' market, it will be interesting how big Rex handles the two QBs, I cant imagine Sanchez, hardly a popular figure with the Jets fans and media at the best of times, wouldve been to happy with the newfound competition. Im with Macca on this one, Sanchez gets the incumbency, and then after one game will be sitting it out by the big cooling fans on the sidelines while Tebow does his usual of offering nothing in the first half before running his team to victory almost singlehandedly. Noo Yoik now has the two biggest pro sport sensations of the past couple of years in the one city! A photo of the two together is surely an inevitability.. The Broncos have taken a big calculated risk shipping Tebow out and bringing in a 36 year old coming off a very serious neck injury. And signing for five years? Hmm. The Dolphins,Texans and Jags are the big losers out of all this. All were in the hunt for his services, as were the 49ers, they still crave and do not have their 'marquee' quarterback. The Niners risked disenfranchising Alex Smith when they courted Manning, but thankfully Smith re-signed after holding talks with Miami. He is no 'star' but he fits Harbaughs system, and with Mario Manningham and Randy Moss as upgrades at WR this year should at least have a viable target long this year that isnt a tight end. Roll on the draft, and Luck and RG3 getting into the pro systems, cant wait to see these two start for the Colts and Skins next year!
  21. Interestingly Mark Jamar has a younger brother who is playing for North Adelaide in the SANFL http://www.nafc.com.au/seniorfootball/players/default.aspx He is 24 according to his bio.
  22. RIP Big Jim. You were truly an inspiration to so many. Not just this club but the whole community are poorer from your passing.
  23. Yes, fathead Ed did mention this in his 'news' segment at the start of the show. It was mentioned on the show that Jurrah would be at training tomorrow to continue his rehab, so thats a good sign.. I fast forwarded through the segment with the two GWS clowns, they're not worthy of my time. There were plenty of puff pieces on this show, although the story on Brad Sewells offseason trips to Sri Lanka etc was a bit different and interesting. Clearly Ed will be using his industry clout to get some big names on this show. lets hope its not to the detriment of some of the more interesting shows on Foxfooty.
  24. Really? Sure looks like it was to me: http://www.ntnews.com.au/uploads/front-pages/ntnewsfrontlge.jpg
  25. I'm guilty of this as well! It was on again last night around 9PM. So yeah, I watched it again. It gives you a chance to watch for little things you may have missed the third time around. Like how well Nathan Jones played, some of the things he did that werent on the stats sheet (that we see in the paper anyway), pressure acts, chases to force errors, shepherds, bumps, he really worked hard whenever he was near the contest Saturday night. Oh, and how Ricky P could easily have had 5 goals too, all the ones he missed were eminently gettable chances. There are so, so many channels on Fox I've never watched for more than 5 minutes over the years that I've had pay. Such a waste of money to be paying for all those channels I dont need. If you could just choose which ones you wanted pro-rata I'd choose all the sports ones,a handful of music and news channels and could happily turf the rest...
