MFC - I Urge you to Buy the Elsternwick Hotel
DemonDave replied to dee-luded's topic in Melbourne Demons
What about us out west? But seriously Id love to see us have an official after match location close to the city/MCG where all supporters could gather to talk tripe about the just completed game. We always goto the Waterfront Hotel after Docklands games, but its always so darned cold there right on the water in the middle of winter. A similar setup for MCG games would be great, without the need to buy a pub. -
By the time his career is finished, Stephen Milne will have very similar games/goals stats to David Neitz. Would people on here be happy to see Stephen Milne in the HOF? Probably not. So taking our MFC glasses off, I dont think he stacks up well enough in the league overall to warrant it. If they re-did Melbourne's all time team, would Neitz make it?

RIP Dudley. May the clubs raffle carry your name proudly in perpetuity. Worth noting that he got a gig in our 'Team of the Century' print too in a nice touch by artist Jamie Cooper at the time...

Do they really have to insist on typing GIANTS in capitals every time in this story? Dont tell me they do it all throughout their website (no I'm not going to look) as some kind of ironical branding. UGH.

And another one bites the dust - Cook
DemonDave replied to Demon Disciple's topic in Melbourne Demons
Every time I've seen Cooks name in the Casey seconds team at selection this year, you knew it was driving him closer to delisting so no real surprise with this one. The only surprise is that people are surprised (I can excuse Herald Sun journos who have no idea where his footy has been at this year). Time and time again the match reviews have said Cook has had 8 or 9 touches, ran to the right spots but failed to impact the contest. I'll give him Luke Molans number, he's been kicking bags every week in my local comp for Spotswood, they can compare tales of being a first draft pick that barely saw out two years at the club. -
And here's the story from the Age, wants to play for a SA club: Jurrah quits Demons Be even worse to see him playing against us!
-
Just mentioned on SEN, with more to follow, that Jurrah has quit the club. If this is the case a sad day for the club. All the best Liam, thanks for the great couple of years!

Melbourne are finally playing football in September again. that's all I can think of.
-
Great to see Fitzy get his chance again. Lets hope he gets a good run out on the ground, his athleticism will be a plus on the expanses of Subi. A matchup on Michael Johnson would be a great one to watch as they are both have very similar attributes.

What a fantastic night of footy, both Carlton and Collingwood lose. Ending finals and Top 4 hopes. Throw Essendon in the mix getting done last night and Casey clinching top spot, all in all a great set of results!
-
Err yeah there's 18 teams not 16 anymore, whoops! I just think your concept makes the season way too long.
-
So this premise would involve 17 weeks, then 4 weeks rest, then 17 weeks, then 4 weeks finals. A total of 42 weeks for the season. Good grief! Throw in the players mandatory 6 weks of leave they must have and you've only got 4 weeks of pre-season! Could you imagine having to watch 34 weeks worth of Port Adelaide or GWS games? No thanks! 17 week season for me. Play each other once. Or as an alternative 17 weeks play each other once, then top 8 play each other once, and bottom 8 play each other once, decided after round 17 for a total of 24 weeks. It takes out any accusations of 'soft' draws.
-
12 teams make the playoffs HG! 4 Divisional winners and 2 wildcards in each conference. And in some instances, such as the NFC west in 2010, teams can win their conference with a losing record. That team went to beat their opponent in first week of finals too!
-
And the fact that said good, ordinary footballer managed to play 17 games this year tells us pretty much where we are at as a club with the quality of our list right now.
-
Well a perfect set of results for the minor Premiership! Do we still at Port Melb oval regardless? Be a shame to not get an actual home ground advantage at Casey Fields

Missed the first half today but have taped it so can so can only go on what I've seen to date. The main one has to be Jack Fitzpatrick. Every week I see him he seems to show something new that I haven't seen before. Today, it was his ability in a tight situation to kick the ball around his body. We've seen the surprising ability to accelerate from a contest before (most notably down at Kardinia Park earlier) but he did it again today beautifully in that third quarter. I actually clapped loudly on my couch when he did that burning opponents off. Would love to see him get a game next week on the expanses of Subiaco. I, have been wanting to see him in the side for the last 10 weeks but apart from that 1 in 1 out earlier he hasn't been given a chance. Some coach's philosophy is to play guys before they are ready and persist with them, believing every game they play early is worth ten in experience (or something similar) whereas it seems Neeld & co are believers in getting good consistency in the VFL and really earning your spot (unless you 're a Jetta). As for the others, Sheahan had a very good last quarter pushing up high off the backline. Moloney tried to bullock and influence the contest without a lot of success, and Magner also doing similar but his disposal was appalling. Of the Casey listed, it was fantastic to see Kyle Matthews out there influencing the forward line. His courageousness and x-factor will be a real plus for the finals. David Collins would have to be just about the most improved player down at Casey this year contributed well again. Smith took a number of impressively strong marks yet again. I feel he will be a chance to be drafted by someone later this year. Bit surprised Matt Fieldsend was omitted as he is a very good player at this level. Bring on the finals!

WTF! CHannel 2 just cut the coverage short before the end of the game!
-
whereas the story on the mfc website contradicts the herald sun column. it states jamar a chance to return this week via the seniors, and all our injured players, stef Martin included, are out for the year: www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/145155/default.aspx I'd take the mfc article as accurate, that sun column always seems to a lot of guesswork involved

Why are the Roos doing so well at the moment?
DemonDave replied to John Crow Batty's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think we'd be beating collingwood by 5 goals next week as the roos are right now if he did sadly -

Eugene arocca quit the kangaroos, be wasnt sacked! -
why feel sorry for him? he has chased money his whole professional career, all in the name of funding the Mormon church. he is the one who decided to leave the storm for bigger money at the broncos and despite being the second highest paid player there decided to ditch the game he grew up loving and playing to chase even more money, this time in a code that was completely foreign to him. mercenaries such as folau deserve every inch of scrutiny they bring onto themselves
-
Just a shame that he's only had 22 kicks this year...at a lousy average of 4 a game. If he can start getting more of the footy I'll be enthused, but right now we have too many players that struggle to break the 10-15 posessions barrier (Jetta, Strauss, Tapscott, Spencer,Bail, Sellar)
-
had his first kick for the game today in the last quarter, via a free kick. no matter how much you sugar coat it for a player of his ability and salary is inexcusable. is one of the laziest and most self absorbed players on our list, along with his mate who got subbed off. move them both on and cash on our chips while we can
-
Jake Niall's piece in today's Age is very interesting: Demons in purgatory He mentions that Sellar only signed a one year deal when he came across (thank goodness, I assumed it was 2!). Certainly this impasse leaves a lot of players futures in limbo and I'm not sure how good for morale this is in the locker room. Of the eleven, I would happily show the door to Petterd, Macdonald, Dunne, Bate, Sellar and Bennell.

I sat in the front row yesterday, a rarity for me. So I got to watch some players a bit more closely than I normally would (ie. I was bored with what was happening in general play). Sylvia was one that stood out, for all the wrong reasons. He would make one half chase while trying to keep the ball in the area, and then literally give up. No second let alone third or fourth efforts. It was appaling to watch, he really is letting down guys like Brad Green, who despite his deteriorated pace in his twilight still ran hard to try and chase every tackle (his slowness never gets him to the player but thats not the point), I would almost drop Colin after these efforts yesterday, time and time again he did it. But then again I dont know how different it is to a normal game, surely the club doesnt accept these half-efforts every week? His three goals were junk goals, when the game was on the line he was nowhere to be seen.
