  1. It would be interesting to see how he would go in a side like Geelong. Unlike Hawkins and Mooney, he's not afraid of having a shot... On basically a free transfer, he probably should be considered but I don't think he would be.
  2. I certainly agree with that, it's just the whole "one club player" accolade that I think is overrated. And Lethal may not have won a Brownlow, but he does have the third most votes of any player in history.....
  3. I said that in my post - it's the difference between being wanted and not wanted. If you are talking about harming your reputation as a one-club player, who would care other than supporters of that club? As for Hawkins, he still picked up 6 brownlow votes in a shocking team in his year at Fitzroy. And Brereton is still a hero at Glenferrie while credited as helping to make Sav Rocca a much better player by Collingwood people.
  4. I think Redleg's response re another rookie is right. Cam Bruce becomes a veteran next year but he would be the only one if McDonald were to go too.
  5. Must say that I respectfully disagree. I think when a player who is not wanted by their club goes to another, supporters are far more willing to accept that than leaving when wanted. I'd contrast Norm Smith, Hawkins, Brereton, Woewoedin, Cousins, King against Colbert, Judd, Scott Thompson, etc. I have never heard a Hawthorn supporter who doesn't love Brereton, whereas finding a Geelong supporter who likes Leigh Colbert........
  6. At the moment Harbrow is worth considerably more than Bennell, as an established good AFL quality player. Bennell is just a mid-30s pick with promise at the moment. Generally speaking, I don't see any point in trying to get another flanker (we seem to have those in spades) or a midfielder (particularly if we use picks 1 & 2 on midfielders). As for an incoming trade, I would probably only be looking at a bigger bodied player who can play either forward or ruck (or both). That's why I have been a big fan of going after David Hale with pick 18. I'd be tempted by Matt Maguire as well although I tend to think 18 by itself would be paying over the odds given his inability to break into the St Kilda side, the fact he hasn't played a lot of footy in the forward 50, and his pre-2009 injury history. Still has all the right attributes to help the development of Watts, Jurrah, etc - can split a pack, good contested mark, and tackles to hurt.
  7. Watts Grimes Garland Frawley Morton Can only find 5 at the moment that cover both the WS and GC introduction. If we are just talking GC, then add Jurrah, Blease, Stauss, Bennell and Wona - mostly because it's too hard to judge how much upside there will be (as opposed to could be in a perfect world) at the moment.
  8. I like that (or some variation on the number of chances for each team) better than the entire bottom 8. Still think that getting rid of the priority pick will eradicate most of the tanking talk/reality. Much more difficult to tank to finish last rather than simply to win less than 5 games. Also, the incentive to get pick 1 instead of 3 is a lot less than 1 & 2 instead of just pick 3.
  9. Reminds me of the story of Leeds when they were "living the dream" of the player who wanted 10k per week, was hoping for 20k and nearly bit their hand off when he was offered 40k straight off the bat......
  10. Seems to have been revised down to 10m - still overpriced, but a bit more realistic after last year's horror show.
  11. Bump - just for fun four weeks out.....
  12. I would be more keen to have a go at David Hale from North. A couple of years younger than Sandilands and can play both in the ruck and as a key forward. Has been pretty ordinary this year but is a very good player. Assuming we get the priority pick, our second round pick (18-20?) may be enough. Sandilands would take a much higher pick or pick plus player.
  13. Wasn't he played at full back in a pre-season match this year against Brisbane? Unfortunately, I think his disposal and decision making issues are terminal. That said, he's probably somewhere between 4 and 7 on the list of players to be delisted so it's by no means a certainty.
  14. 204cm ruckman who was pick 4 in the 2006 draft. Unfortunately for us, will be Brisbane's number 1 ruckman for the next decade. Not sure they would do the trade even for pick 2-5. I wouldn't if I were Brisbane - why waste 3 years of development put in to a ruckman who will likely be a star?
  15. He did. No idea whether it was true or not though.
  16. Don't disagree with that, but Rioli was still available at their pick.
  17. If Morton is going to be "rested", then he should actually be rested. Being sent back to the VFL to play on wet suburban grounds is not being rested. I'd leave him in the side. Sylvia for Dunn is the only change I'd make. Pretty clear from DB's comments on the Melbourne site that Watts won't be playing firsts this week.
  18. The question there would be whether he can play forward. Was tried in that role a bit for Sandringham earlier in the season but I'm not sure of how successfully. I think his closing speed is a bit of a concern for a key defender - excellent contested mark however.
  19. Of those, if you are going to ask for Josh Hill, may has well have a shot at Higgins. Unfortunately with both - no chance. Mitch Clark was a top 10 draft pick a few years ago and I think Brisbane are more than happy with him. No interest in Hall, and if Rusling is any chance of recovering from his injuries, he'll stay at Collingwood. More of a mid-sized forward anyway. Depending on the strength of the draft, Hawkins for our second round pick would be well worth considering. Still not yet 21 for 197cm key forward.
  20. You do realise that it was Scott Selwood don't you? The 19 year old one. Very ordinary act from Col and very undisciplined. Why he would do that (30 yards off the play as well) when in career best form is beyond me. By the way, the Brennan decision was a shocker (and watch the media go to town on it over the next few days), but Sylvia certainly wasn't hard done by.
  21. NEAR CERTAINTIES: McDonald - Expect to retire. Has struggled with form and injury this year. McNamara - Speculative draft pick who hasn't made it for a senior game half way through his second year. Possibly picked up again as a rookie? Wheatley - Simply do not see a place for him going forward. Chances for a new contract shot by injuries. PROBABLES: Whelan - Well documented injuries seem to have taken their toll. Doubtful he would be a meaningful contributor in 2010. Buckley - Quick in a straight line but problems with decision making and skill. Would go before either Bate or Dunn and has been on the list as long. Bell - See Buckley, but has been on the list even longer. POSSIBLES: PJ/Jamar - Either could go, but as the rest of the ruck stocks are the very unproven Meesen, and the awkward Rookie Spencer, it is likely that both will go round again at least in 2010. Robertson - Possible but doubtful. Likely to remain in 2010 on much less money - unless the third year of his deal kicks in or he decides to quit or try his luck elsewhere. ROOKIES: Valenti - Don't think he'll get another shot. Too much of the same, too short and not quick enough. I know some disagree but I don't think the coaching staff do on the available evidence. Spencer - Less chance to be promoted than seemed likely early season. Probably the nominated third year rookie as he seems worth a shot. McKenzie - Appears the most likely to get a permanent spot. Haven't seen him but the reports have been very positive. Healey - Has only played VFL seconds so far so is doubtful. Possibly retained if he shows something. Zomer - Gone. Unconvincing at VFL reserves level.
  22. Reported on 'ology that Bennell is out for a few weeks. Don't know the source or the injury. Agree about Maric. Has a bit of class about him I like. PJ and Bell would be lucky to retain their spot. As would Whelan, McDonald and possibly McLean on current form, but I think it is unlikely that any of those three will be dropped. Ins - any two of Dunn, Jurrah, Newton, Martin and Petterd. This week's VFL game is basically an audition for the Essendon game. I doubt that Valenti will play another game for Melbourne. Appears to have his cards stamped as too small and not quick enough for AFL.
  23. No complaints at this stage - still think there may be more upside to Morton than Rioli, but both will be excellent players. Sydney might be a little unhappy about their choice, but there is a fair bit of drafting for needs between our pick at 4 and Hawthorn at 12 - particularly Essendon and St Kilda.
  24. I accept that, particularly re Dal Santo. Had genuinely hoped (and I think written on this site) that we would make a serious play to recruit him which unfortunately never eventuated. I don't agree that Mitch Morton is necessarily a poisonous influence and incorrigible at age 22 however. The silence regarding the negative aspects of his behaviour last year tells us more than a Wallace rant at 1-7 in 2009 in my view. It would be fair to say, I think, that he has hardly been at the two most stable clubs in the AFL in his formative football years.
  25. At the time of the trade from WCE to Richmond, it was clear that the eagles wanted to keep him. The tigers did well to get him for pick 35 - not sure whether he was out of contract or not at that stage. The rumour is that he was dropped after the Sydney game for "not putting the team first", but again that has happened to many very good player including also Nick Dal Santo last year. While he made a bad mistake late in the game against Port Adelaide, he also racked up 17 possessions and kicked two goals - a reasonable return for a mid-sized forward. If what was reported about post match on the weekend, he seems to me to have been a scapegoat by Wallace. I still haven't seen any compelling evidence from anyone that he is such a poisonous influence on a footy club that would mean you wouldn't seriously look at him if available. Certainly nothing to the extent of an Angwin for instance....
