Post Match Discussion - Round 5
I was at the game and had a great aerial view. Stretch - did not take the game on enough. we gave so much effort and were our own worst enemy at times. One play he received the ball at half back with a free man at half forward. an almost certain shot on goal coming up. he decided to go sideways and gave richmond time to man up. he gets in ok position but is playing too safely and to be honest was too fumbly all night. i would give him another game though and see if he learns. ANB - doesn't look half the player of last year where he was very reliable. tough, hard runner but looks out of form to me. just looks like a VFL player at present. both not great defensively either with 2 and 1 tackles respectively. Max Gawn had 8.

Changes v North Melbourne
They always jump us with good clean footy, and we are on the back foot. Geez there is some big starts in there. A bit like what Brisbane face against us. By the time they drew level, they had given their all but then we ran away with it. Their defensive set up is always better than ours so im always prepared for the easy mark that goes to their key backs all day. i.e infuriating.

Name 3 good things
1. We looked gone at half time then came back hard 2. No one dominated yet we pushed them to the final siren. 3. Petracca looks fitter and set for a big year.

Caro digs up old wounds of Camp Fiasco on eve of season.
investigates? investigates the facts, or asks question she wants the right answer from. I think there is a difference. she knows what sells and works towards that. The fact she looks above most journs because she actually does something doesn't make her a legit investigative journo.

List Analysis Potential v Reality
its a good sign to see the 2nd and 3rd categories so well stacked. I generally agree and maybe Lewis and Vince will drop off a bit in their autumn years now. I think the extra we will gain from Salem and Brayshaw will be more about getting them consistently on the park and performing. They already have both shown plenty. same goes for Hogan. I also think Oliver can improve quite a bit in metres gained. so often he doesn't go forward almost by auto pilot. he could break games open more and become even better.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
not to mention Lever is young as well.
-
Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
game on. now Adelaide are saying Lever wanting Melbourne is 'all good and well' but we are negotiating with 10 Victoria clubs. I think they need reminding of the Scott Thompson deal for a late first rounder.
-
Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
and our opponents will tag him out of the game like the grand final.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever

Glaring weakness in defence
that is very very interesting. I have used that Port game as an example many times. we absolutely shellacked them first half and should have been 10 goals up. but all the games since then seemed to be like another team out there, we went back into our shell, and by the end looked cooked. I like many just was stunned by those last few games.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
if we make finals I would call it a resounding success, we needed leadership, in fact we were begging for it. Don't forget how many games last year where we jus could not stop the onslaught. You may not realise how often he senses the other team getting a run on and starts defending against it. We have had no idea how to do that until this year. In the first 12 games no-one really got hold of us and Lewis was a key difference (Hibberd as well).

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
yep we can only go on what we are seeing and his first year is a massive tick for me. absolute leader out there.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
everyone who has said Lewis was finished last week, please hope on board and give us your view.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
The assertion is not an insult to our leaders at all. Have a look at our record with those leaders in the team over the past few years. Lewis has been critical to us when the game is going against us. Far to often when the momentum swings like the 2nd quarter on Monday, we have curled up our toes and got shellacked. Goodwin will have him as one of the first picked every week.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
Its why Hawthorn were so effective yet not winning the clearances. You can shut down the opposition in other ways. and when he gets his kicking game going he is vital to setting us up. will be top 5 in our B and F this year.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
go watch the replay and concentrate on his defensive efforts, his positioning and being a key to stifling Collingwood in the second half. As someone on here said, you don't have to have the footy to be effective. He could do the same game again and he will not be dropped.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
if he just looked to 'draw' the contests he would tackle more I think, but if his opponent isn't marking it his aim is to beat him and gain possession. We have a beauty here.

Time to show Oscar some respect!
Yep credit where credit is due. We just want to see it more than one week. big game against the doggies, so we will see if he can back it up.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
I was thinking the same thing. OMac is probably going to give more than Weideman as a forward and TMac can go back a bit more depending on the side. Would work for Collingwood with Frost taking Moore.
