  1. Fairly ambiguous, this 'can never have enough A-grade mids' talk. For example, take Priddis. He is A-grade, but it's fairly obvious that you can't have too many pure inside players who are one-paced and one-sided. Tyson is the equivalent for us who may well become an A-grade insider in time.. However he can almost only play through the midfield as an inside mid. Not that it's news to posters. A-grade mids with attributes that our list are in need of is specifically what we're after. And I'd say that those attributes are class, foot-skills and pace. Dion has the capacity to play positions outside of the 'inside-mid' role because he possesses some diverse attributes. Obviously, he'd be handy. Everytime we come up against players like Dahlhaus and Steven, I think to myself 'they're the players we are missing through our midfield'. Classy users and line-breaking ability. I reckon if Prestia came to us, he'd be used much more on the outside given our strength inside the contest. He has break-away pace, and a great kick.
  2. Casey have a bye this week so it'd make sense that a couple of Melbourne listed players will be in Alice for the experience. Would be fairly surprised if Hullett was playing this w/e.
  3. Understandable when the 'relay-er' happens to be none other than 'Petraccattack'. King of all misinformation and exaggeration.
  4. Just so people don't forget. Spencer was only given a one-year deal. Which basically says to me that as soon as we land someone who offers more than being able to eat five parma's in one sitting, he'll be gone. Daw is not the answer, for the hundredth time. But I'd have him over Spencer on any given day for a third or fourth rounder. Gawn has shown just how difficult he can be to match-up on as a forward and I firmly believe that if we wish for him to continue playing consistent football for entire seasons at our club, he is going to need a helluva lot more support than the odd Pedo/Watts cameo in the ruck. He has had three knee oppos and is the second tallest ruckman in the league and not far from the heaviest either I would imagine. The club would be well aware of this and I think as soon as we get someone in who can also provide a genuine forward target and can kick goals, we'll see a double-team situation in which Gawn will have more periods forward. Would love a quality forward/ruckman. But Daw is better than what we currently have and will provide further support whilst the Kings continue developing their bodies and footy at VFL. Ben Brown, Mason Cox, Mike Pike... It'll click for Daw at some stage.
  5. Superior to Hogan's? From a list management perspective, where do you see him fitting in? If you are saying he could play a Tom Lynch role, you are basically saying that Watts has no role in the side. Once Weideman is ready, (earliest being next year) he will take the FF position which will mean Hogan will play the position best suited to his attributes which is clearly CHF. His running capacity is enormous. Which leaves Watts to be the dangerous third tall. Dawes and Pedo are simply gap fillers and are not in our long-term plans but are good backup for the next couple of years. And Hullett is the other 'third tall' who is currently playing as a leadup key forward at VFL level. So again, how do you see him fitting in to the forward-line in the future? I've seen him as a defender and GWS have seen him as a defender and he does not cut it as one. His natural position and best suited position is as a lead-up forward. Brereton spent a bit of time up at GWS as a mentor/coach and he has said it many times also. We'll be getting a genuine key defender at the end of the year. Not a makeshift one. We need to address weakness areas on our list and continue to be smart about who we bring in.
  6. Crowd should be bigger this year regardless because we are relevant again and the Pies are now starting to build and I imagine by the Queen's B'day game we'll be in pretty similar spots on the ladder. Could be on the same no. of wins in fact. But yeh, if Trenners came back for that game, I'd like to say it'd give our team/supporters a boost.
  7. Weird. But I agree with your changes and I reckon we'll see those ins/outs.
  8. He is a natural roaming CHF and is limited positionally speaking. Hullett is a very similar player if you compare their attributes and physical traits. Last year I was interested but we've since picked up Hullett and Weideman. Add Hogan, Watts, Pedo and Dawes to the picture and it's clear there is no need to target another med-tall key forward who is positionally limited player.
  9. Back to the person of interest in this thread.. If he decides to chase coin elsewhere, (hard to see it happening) I hope the club have someone in their sights to replace him. I'd rather him stay, as I think his best football is up there with that of any key defender in the league. But as previously said, he must address his weakness areas and consistently play within his limits or he will genuinely become a problem player. Unlike Garland and Dunn he still has time. But his form is far too yo-yo like For my liking. Hard to really know what's happening re: contract. But my preference would be for us to keep T-Mac as a CHB and chase hard for a replacement for Dunn. Sam Day, Steven May or Hurley. edit: having a nightmare with predictive txt today.
  10. Brown is hardly a footballer. One has come on quicker than the other as a forward and is therefore holding down a third tall position in the forward-line. That's all.
  11. Bat-[censored] crazy.
  12. Some pretty over-the-top views on either side of the coin with this one. Daw is clearly no star. But he is more versatile than Spencer and has more scope for improvement even at his age. And it's funny that some of the posters who are bagging Daw are the same ones who are more than happy to defend Spencer. Talk about emotional bias. Daw has demonstrated samples of play that Spencer could only dream of performing. He just hasn't been able to string them together. Whilst there are obviously better examples of forward/ruckman around the league, I'd have Daw on the list if we were to get him for a packet of crisps. He'd provide further depth in our ruck division and again has much greater upside compared to Spencer. Do posters realise there's a bloke named Ben Brown running around getting the third best defender on him every week, playing in a team that's on top of the ladder and who only a few years ago was playing in the VFL. Brown is hardly miles ahead of Daw as a payer.. He just performs more consistently. If we could get someone of 'Jenkins' quality then it's not a conversation. Howver Daw would be an option if we couldn't get a quality forward/ruckman.
  13. Clearly Dunn is out of favour for reasons I can only guess. There's no other explanation as to why our most senior and experienced defender is playing at Casey. Which means another KPD, (Oscar in this case) has been given the nod of approval. We have no other KPD which points to a lack of depth in this area. Out of all areas on the ground, our back six is and has been the most unsettled unit of all. Why is this? It is thanks to Garland and Dunn's inability to play defensive roles consistently and to a satisfactory standard which has seen them in and and out of the side. Dunn was again overlooked on the weekend and the coaches favoured O-Mac to take the other key defensive post alongside his brother and Garland. The fact that the coaches chose to bring Oscar in (who was hardly banging the door down at Casey) over Dunn says much more about what is going on with Dunn and also highlights our lack of key position depth. Due to Dunn and Garland's fall from grace coupled with an obvious lack of key position defensive depth playing at Casey, we've seen that this is the only area of the ground whereby players have been promoted from Casey to our senior side without necessarily having to 'play out of their skin'. Wagner and O-Mac are both examples. Compare this to our midfield and forward-line where we clearly have some great depth building and you'll find that players like Petracca and ANB have had to play to an extremely high standard for a number of weeks to get a look in. In seasons past, they would have both been playing well before their form at Casey warranted a senior call up. I can understand why O-Mac was given a game in this case based on what I've just said, just as I understood why Wagner was promoted earlier in the season. However, it's clear as day that last weekend he was out of his depth. He wasn't ready. He was overawed. You cannot argue that. I don't care that he still managed 18 disposals and three rebound 50's. We won by 63 points. We were in control, and Brisbane's ball movement was awful. Do you watch the game man? Or do you just consistently defend players time after [censored] time like Saty? I will be absolutely gobsmacked if Oscar keeps his spot this week.
  14. How about no. He is not ready. He found it hard even spoiling the superstar known as 'Freeman' in the contests he was in against him. Imagine what Westhoff would do to him. O-mac was miles off the pace last weekend regardless of what Saty and co continue to say.
  15. So he either has something wrong with his feet, or he has the flu.... Cool.
  16. What's wrong with Viney? I've heard nothing about an injury to him..
  17. A contested mark is somewhat easier to recognise... 11 is ridiculous in a single game. I questioned the poster because of this exaggerated number.
  18. Without one flicker of doubt.
  19. How about for Sydney, Geelong and West Coast? Whether or not it would work would come down to more than two key forwards being able to apply 'good pressure' off the ball, but of course pressure off the ball from all players helps. Let's see what transpires.
  20. There are multiple ways of stopping that. Pressure from our forwards as you say. But also smarter entry going forward. The only reason we'd 'look too tall' is if we are kicking it on the heads of our forwards rather than to the advantage of. North Melbourne have the tallest forward-line going around and seem to be going okay. West Coast the same. It's about the quality of ball coming in as much as anything. If it's poor, then yes their runners will bring it straight out and it'll be problematic. The message I'm pushing is that the inclusion of Spencer to the side would mean they'd likely have to change their current set-up of talls. Which could work to our favour if we capitalize through the midfield. It's clear Hogan is more difficult to match up on when roaming further up the field. He is too easily double teamed when he plays from the goal-square. Gawn sitting at FF would be a nightmare for them and it'd also allow Watts to get off the leash and hit the scoreboard.
  21. I'm not so sure. Spencer wouldn't be able to ruck the whole game on his own, especially in the humidity of Darwin. He has only played a couple of games in the VFL. This would be strictly a strategic move based on the potential outs for Port and the fact that they're playing their best KP defender as a make-shift ruckman. Spencer is pretty useless around the ground but if Gawn and him play a 50/50 split of ruck/forward time then it'd make it awkward for Port to match-up on them when forward. Spencer less so but Gawn would be a huge concern for them if he played half the game forward. Especially if our mids get on top which they should.
  22. Outs for Port: Gray, Jonas and Byrne-Jones. Hartlett looked really proppy thanks to a shoulder injury and a corkie so he's another who might not get up for Saturday which would be huge for us. Boak will be sore if anyone witnessed Hurn's bump to his ribs, I expect Viney or Jones to test them out if that's the case because I reckon he'll play. All-in-all, it's not ideal for them and our midfield must capitalize on what will be a weaker midfield for Port. As far as what our side looks like, I would entertain the following: Purely for match-ups and to worry Port, I'd have Spencer rucking the majority of the first half with Gawn playing deep forward. Port have a pretty small back-line and if we were to go with a forward-line of Gawn, Hogan at CHF and Watts it would mean Port would have to send Trengove back (who has been their make-shift ruckman) and Westhoff into the ruck with Dixon their only permanent KF which would take the pressure off our defenders. Port have no ruck-man and whilst Spencer is short of a gallop, I think with injuries to Hartlett and Boak and the imminent suspension of Gray, we need to be aggressive and try to stretch Port's talls. It means our mids will have to fire on the weekend and win the contested count significantly. But I think it could work. Would also allow Gawn a bit of a rest without having to leave him out of the side. He is so important to us when he's on top. It's a risky move, but Gawn is too important to leave out and I worry about our backline having to deal with Dixon and Westhoff playing forward if we don't dictate this sort of move. Am I crazy? Other players who I imagine will come in are Jetta, Salem, Dunn and possibly Tyson. Trengove and Grimes also surely in the frame? Michie, O-Mac, Newton as possible outs.
  23. Generally a really smart and good field kick for a KP player, is Jesse. Which is a handy attribute for a CHF to have. As soon as the Weed is ready, I'm sure we'll see the move made.
  24. Jeez I detest that word.
