We've been on the bottom of the ladder for seven years Stuie. What gamble are you talking about? We'll see what happens with him, and I'll be bringing him up again in the near future.
-
But Stuie, you're assuming he needs to be fixed. Maybe being at another club will fix things? Ever thunk of that one?
-
Wow, a whole lot of speculation. Let's just watch this space and next year we can compare his value vs disruption levels for the team he is picked up by. (If he goes) It's a Collingwood thing.
-
I'm sure you're one of the people that wants to keep someone like Sylvia on the list because you believe PR can turn him around. Am I right? What about Jack Watts? Will PR turn him around as a player? If it's a yes, you're just an extremely selective, biased and narrow-minded MFC supporter who is an absolute [censored] to argue with.
-
Stuie, we have a sick culture already. Sick in the sense that there are players who are now conditioned. They are used to losing. They are lazy. They don't trust each other. They don't work for one another. That is the culture we have. No coach is magically going to fix that with all players. Jamar, Dunn, Sylvia are all culprits and none of them give a [censored]. Heath Shaw gives a [censored] and works extremely hard. He is a smart footy brain and offers so much more to the TEAM CULTURE WE NEED. He works hard and is a team player. Shut the [censored] up about his off-field business. When was the last time he made a hiccup? You're clueless.
-
Heath Shaw has issues at Collingwood. Yes, we all know that. If Roos believed he could settle him down and we could get him in a fair trade, there is no doubting he would add a lot to our side. That's all I'm saying. Why is it a given that he would bring these troubles to another club?
-
He kicked 4 goals in the last quarter of a final against Geelong to get them into a prelim or grandfinal I believe. It's gone down as one of the most incredible individual efforts in a quarter of football. And it was a final. Are you having a laugh mate? He was really devastating to the that clubs culture wasn't he.... Jesus Christ.
-
It's a non-argument. I've just listed one player who carried his behaviour on to another club in Brendon Fevola. I've asked you to list others. You can't. So it's a non-argument.
-
Why don't you just give an explanation as to why you wouldn't want him if we were to get a fair deal done?
-
I don't give a [censored] about his history. Roos would sort that out no problem and his past doesn't affect his onfield performance does it? It's a non-argument. He may have troubles at Collingwood which is clearly why he's being talked up as someone to move on. That doesn't mean he'll carry those problems to the next club. Fevola is the only one who I can think of who couldn't change his destructive behaviour out of how many? And now we are blessed to have a coach who is famous for his player development skills. Give me a [censored] break people. I'd be more than happy to go after him.

I wold take him for the right trade in a heartbeat. We have one running half back who uses the ball well and makes smart decisions and that's a first year player in Terlich. Shaw would be great as another. I would swap him with someone like Dunn in an instant. Of course we need to address the midfield first and foremost but it's also about adding talent to our entire list and Shaw plays his position very well indeed.

Outrageous player predictions for 2014
stevethemanjordan replied to nutbean's topic in Melbourne Demons
For Jack Watts to chill the fark out when there's an opportunity to win the ball at a contest. He's going to kill himself otherwise.. -
With you 100%
-
Elite endurance great work ethic and pretty good one on one considering his build. Decision making and kicking need to improve out of sight of he's going to move beyond being another talked up young player. Still got a lot to prove.
-
Christ.
-
I believe he/she said all three would be hard to get..
-
Would be a great offseason if we managed that.

You are looking at the surface Stuie. The recruitment of Pederson, Gillies, Rodan, Byrnes etc were purely an attempt by Mark Neeld himself to bring in some experience from other clubs. Nothing to do with the recruitment department, identification of talent or development and nurturing of young players. It was about trying to change the culture a bit and clearly had no effect. Kent, Jones and Terlich were players brought in by the recruiting dep with certain criteria that players had to have met. Again Jones and Terlich are mature age players and that was high on Neeld's priority list. Our top end young talent was Viney and Toumpas. They were pretty good gets in my eyes. This year will be completely different. You can't keep basing your judgement on past regimes and coaches. We've already heard that we are going hard for Adams and Selwood. If we got them both and still had pick two and another few picks for the draft, that's a fair injection of mids.

Not only are Richards, Shaw and Mumford completely different types of players, they are also a lot better than Weller. Weller is a nothing player. Doesn't have a position. Doesn't do enough. We have no culture as of yet. Why in the hell would we pick him up? Even if the guy went to Sydney, do you think he'd flourish? I certainly don't.
-
Love the idea of having a guy of his Scharenberg's size lining up at the centre square. As others have pointed out, we have a lot of small to medium sized mids and not one monster. He would add a lot as he is versatile enough to play multiple positions. Many great midfields within the AFL have a few players around his build and height. Goodes, kennedy, Corey, Mundy, Hayes... Scharenberg would really compliment our midfield well. He is tough, smart and skill-full.
-
Terrible player and terrible idea to draft him. Worse than the Greenwood talk. Please can we raise the bar a bit?
-
I appreciate you trying to give people a heads up on inside info. But when there's another poster saying that they've heard the complete opposite, it makes for very annoying information. Have you spoken to Shuey personally? Or has this come from a line of 'people in the know'. I wish people would just say where they've heard it. Even if it's through an extraterrestrial.
-
Well, no. It's not. I agree if you're talking about us in the past. How about Sydney though? They have never developed superstars apart from Goodes. They have hard working, honest, tough and team oriented mids and they've got a [censored] plethora of them. That comes from development, leadership, recruiting well and club culture. I'm pretty sure Roos and a few of his pals had some sort of influence in that.... And I'm pretty sure Roos and a few of his pals are heading our way. It's going to be a different ball game from here on in.

Stuie, I hear what you're saying but surely you can see that with the advent of a new recruiting team, and what will hopefully be an injection of fantastic assistant coaches along with Paul Roos, it will be much easier to identify, nurture and develop young mids from the next few drafts. Add to that free agency this year and the trade period, things look very different to what they did a few years ago. Hypothetically speaking, if we were gifted pick 1 this year from the AFL, I would be taking Boyd no questions at all. None of us know how Clarke's foot will hold up going forward and it will mean Hogan can be a swing man and play both forward and back, just like Reid has been doing for the pies. Hogan's more of a natural backman anyway and played the majority of his under 18 level footy there. Clarke, Dawes and Boyd forward Frawley, Garland and Hogan back with McDonald as depth. (Seriously needs to work on his kicking) That is a serious spine. You've then got Gawn and Fitz as ruckman. That is a formidable spine and from there we can concentrate on drafting, trading and getting some Free Agents as mids over the next two or three years. There are no absolute standout all-round gun mids this year. However there is a standout gun forward. The only way I'd be willing to give pick 1 up is if a club were offering a seasoned A grade mid. But I can't see that happening.

I'm with them. Odd choice.
