Taggert, Magner, Stark delisted; Clisby promoted
stevethemanjordan replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Whatevs. I rate the guy. I think he's incredibly unlucky not to have had the opportunity to play any afl. Had it been the Bailey days, he would have been given free games all the time. He's a better footballer than Bail, Nicho, McKenzie and Jetta and I'll stand by that. There's more to being delisted than one thinks and as we have all seen, clubs get plenty of decisions wrong. He was was drafted at a time where the Neeld and Craig era were trying to implement big change and develop our youngsters at Casey rather than gifting them games. Taggert's situation was completely different to that of Tynan, Davis, Magner etc. He had a debilatating back injury which ruined his first year. Granted he never dominated consistently at VFL level, but I've seen enough in him to know he has some really handy attributes. I'm not saying the club got the decision wrong, I'm simply saying I'm disappointed. I hope he gets picked up by a club... -

Well I suggest you have buckets a plenty wherever it is you'll be over the next few months my friend.. -
I'm down. As long as we snag him!
-
Would still have him ahead of Bail, McKenzie, Nico, Jetta etc Will be great if we get him, he'll certainly have an impact. Hoping we get him at 40 if Garlett is gone.

I saw and still see something in Taggert. Not happy to see him go. -
BB. If we want a premiership, we're going to need to be harsh. Bartram's tenacity and no fear approach was admirable but in the AFL, you need to bring more to the table. For too long have I seen mediocre players represent the MFC and it's infected supporters. They've become used to having mediocre players and so they stick up for them whenever a bad word is said. I'm sure Bartram is a lovely guy. But I'm strictly talking football here and I want to leave all emotional pre-dispositions aside for the betterment of our club.I want a god damn premiership.
-
Thank god he nominated tha Saints, now this nonsense can stop. Ya'll realise Weller is just another Bartram? Again, raise the bar people. We have enough spuds still running around. We want to improve don't we? Cross Tyson Vince Michie There's a theme. Roos wants to add talent. Mav Weller... Lols...

Lennon does look cleaner and classier. Freeman looks more dynamic and explosive and looks to have some grunt. But at the same time can use the ball. That's the beauty of the draft. Pick a player who will compliment your list and hope that you get it right. Since we have Watts, Toumpas and Vince as classy types, I'd love to add an explosive and dynamic mid to our list who can also use the ball well. Blease is a poor mans Freeman. Freeman has many more strengths to his name.
-
Can't say I see the Moloney comparison.Freeman to me doesn't really look like anyone. I think his vision and awareness when he has a bit of time is pretty good. He's not a lace out laser-foot like Lennon or Salem but he is a much better kick than Moloney. He's very explosive, and seems to play with a lot of confidence and is not afraid. He seems like a pretty dynamic midfielder to me with not many weaknesses. He's standout attribute is obviously speed but I'd say he's a pretty well-rounded mid. Confidence and physicality is always a good sign too. He's like a Shuey-Dangerfield-David King cross.

Jump on the 'pick 9' thread and you'll see some links on the earlier pages.

Let's be honest, neither of us have the faintest of ideas about the guy's personal life. We have read and heard reports. However, none of the 'problems' seem to be a massive cause for concern for me. It's not like he's been accused of rape or murder.. He has had commitment and discipline issues and that's it. Garlett himself has stated that he'd find it easier to settle if he were to move states, which I'm sure is the reason people keep saying West Coast won't go near him. He said that it's his mates in WA that make it hard for him to settle and that's why it'd be easier to move state to play. However this year he proved to the naysayers that he can indeed be committed and I didn't hear much about off-field issues and he was in WA all year with his 'mates'. And from what I saw, he had a decent year in the WAFL and showed why he was rated a top 10 pick last year. So what, he found it hard to curb the 'party boy' identity that resulted in him being overlooked last year. This year was a damn big improvement in the WAFL. It's clear he has a desire to play AFL, and this year he was fantastically committed to the cause. The guy will be fine if he gets to an interstate club. And he will. I just hope it's us. He is a young boy who needs guidance and that's one of the beautiful thing about sporting teams and clubs. They can do more than just provide someone with an opportunity to play at the highest level. Clubs can help shape and develop young people. Garlett will be picked up, there's no doubt, and I for one hope we snag him.
-
Well considering some of our current mids have quite good kicking skills and some don't just proves that you don't know what you're talking about...
-
He's a completely different type of 'project'. He can seriously play which everyone knows. He has already stated that living in WA with his mates makes it harder for him to really settle. If anything, he needs to get to another state and at least get on a list and be given a shot. I would rather take the chance on someone like him coming to our club and us being able to curb that side of his personality than to continue to try and squeeze everything out of the countless talentless players we still have kicking around.
-
I'm sorry bit I can't agree with anyone that saw 'something' in this bloke. When he played that game against Geelong, none of their mids took even the faintest bit of notice of him, and so he accumulated possessions by pretty much being free at stoppages. They were simply useless possessions. Greenwood had 38 in one game this year but can't break into Norths engine room.. Why? Magner got over 50 in the VFL this year and didn't play the week after. Why? Cale Morton was averaging high numbers in his first few years when many here were frothing at the thought of our very own Adam Goodes. Numbers. Nothing but numbers. Why do people place so much emphasise on this stat on its own. This is the AFL. The elite. You're not suddenly a good player if you manage high numbers. Just like it doesn't make you a good player if you can only tackle well. Or only kick well. Raise the bar. Gysberts was an out of the blue pick and one of the laziest players I have laid my eyes upon. He did nothing in the champs to prove his worth as a top 20 draft pick and BP will go down as one of the worst AFL recruiters the game has seen. I'm sorry to be harsh, but it's infuriating. I've never seen anything to excite me when watching him play and that was the same with Morton.

Happy with Freo at pick 9. The more I watch, the more I like. He's now my preference with Lennon and Salem close behind.

How much football have Demonland members played?
stevethemanjordan replied to Nasher's topic in Melbourne Demons
Some great profiles. Enjoying it! I've played the game since vic kick. Was wanting to make AFL early on and got a chance with the chargers but was unfortunately cut just before they selected their under 18's side. The year of the 05 draft. Interesting experience, especially being brought up in a very different environment to most of the boys that played there... Most being at big melbourne private schools. Definitely helped me realise that we all mature at different stages in our sporting lives. Have been playing at Old Scotch in A grade amo's ever since 19's which is a great standard. Didn't go to school there, a few mates invited me down years ago. -
No, no we shouldn't. At 9 we're in a position to pick up a very good mid.
-
Surely you can see that we've added depth and talent to the midfield, (our problem area). That can only mean improvement Rhino. With Paul Roos as couch as well, I think it would be silly to think we won't improve. Agree

Nathan Jones was a teens pick and look at how far he's come as a player at the MFC. Sylvia is an absolute airhead who refuses to believe that reaching his potential is completely up to him. Good riddance. Can't stress enough how happy I am with the Vince swap. Moloney and Sylvia - 'bringing the MFC down since the early 2000's' Get fcked.

MELBOURNE TEAM FOR ROUND 1, 2014
stevethemanjordan replied to felixdacat's topic in Melbourne Demons
ROUND 1 TEAM: FB: Garland Frawley Strauss HB: Terlich McDonald Grimes C: Watts N Jones Vince HF: Michie Hogan Howe FF: Dawes Clark Kent R: Gawn Viney Tyson I/C: Trengove Toumpas Cross Sub: Blease Unlucky: Clisby, Taggert and Tappy The rest: Improve skill level and you'll get a look in. This is a hard running disciplined football team with the skill to match. Roos is about gut running. Players who can run both forward and back all day so as you can see there are plenty of players even on the HB and HF lines who can run through the middle to give the starting mids a break. Same goes with the bench. If all these runners can adhere to Roos' game style, we will be big improvers. They need to play like possessed demons, running hard at the ball and player. Swarm the contested situations, making sure we win as many contests as we can and getting on the run quickly. The beauty of having injected players like Vince, Cross, Michie and Tyson is that they are all smart footballers who make sound decisions. If they can play with the kind of intensity that Roos' teams are known for, then I'm not worried about their ability to get on the spread and make smart decisions. Something that Bail, McKenzie, Matt Jones, Evans, Dunn, Magner and Jetta seem incapable of doing. Surprises to the side might be Strauss but I believe Roos will get him to play at the required intensity. If that happens, he will be an excellent back pocket because he can use the ball and can run and create. Needs som arrogance to his game. Clisby is the other who can grab that spot. I like Terlich as a flanker as he provides fantastic run and attack, and despite what many people think, I believe he's a beautifully skilled player most of the time. It's his team mates that make his decision making look bad as he's always trying to find the best option rather than banging it on the boot ala Dunn. Hogan as CHF because he has a huge tank and can also influence play when the ball is on the ground so he's extremely valuable as that high working CHF. Provides a massive aerial threat up the ground if play is stagnant and we're kicking long down the line. Dawes just doesn't provide the same sort of impact. Can't do much when the ball is on the ground and he's hands are nowhere near as good, however it'll be good for those two to be able to rotate throughout games so they can reserve their energy and therefore have more of an influence. Howe and Michie play very important roles. Both are great runners and with another pre-season, will only have bigger engines. The HF line is extremely important in that you need to be able to get on your bike up the field and stream back when we're on the attack. They're both great marks and can do damage when the ball is in dispute so their running ability needs to be on show when the ball is moving quickly back into our forward 50. Trengove, Vince, Cross and even Tyson have the attributes to play this role well and they will be as part of normal rotations. Important position. Clark and Hogan or Dawes deep in the forward line is a scary thought if we can use the ball well when entering forward 50. As I've said, you'd imagine it will improve thanks to the skilled mids we've brought in. The only thing we're really missing is that manic forward pressure pocket who can kick goals. I've popped kent in there as I rate him and he is about the best we have currently. The benefit of having him is that he is another who next year after a pre-season will also be able to run through the midfield or play HF. He's got some great attributes. Blease is the other who can play it but needs to step up next year. The theory with this team is that they all need to be playing team first, disciplined hard running football and play with some stink. I'm confident that Paul Roos and George Stone will bring this to fruition and get them on board. If they start playing this sort of footy, then get ready for lift-off my friends. Can't wait for next year. -
Taggart is a player J. He has serious ability, just needs a full pre-season and some consistency and he'll work his way into our side. As someone else has said, he hasn't had a fantastic run at it due to injury and last year he was developed and kept at Casey deliberately. Not because he wasn't good enough. The guy can play.

I'm intrigued to know how you know Roos wanted to draft Gysberts?
