I think the mental problems are more prevalent on DL than they are in the team. the team remind me of my year 9 school report - easily distracted and distracts others. When they're not distracted, they are the best team in the league. Need to either improve their focus skills pre quarter starting, or get hit with a cattle prod (or maybe both).

Bub, we just fell into the finals in '87 and it was us doing the monstering. It is a highly even year, and with a week off before the finals anyone in it can win it, I reckon.

Average losing margin in 5 losses = 12.2 points. Average winning margin in wins = 33.8 points. Definitely better. Whilst we haven't put 4 qtrs together regularly enough (and I discount the Geelong, Richmond games where key injuries early killed us late in those games), my take is we've had 1 horrendous qtr vs Freo, 1st qtr v. North not turned on (plus TMac fwd not a good move early) and similar story with Hawthorn. But these poor starts + 3Q Freo haven't diminished our belief we can come back, and the fact we score heavily (who'd have thought this in 2013) adds fuel to the belief. I'd like to revisit this thread after the 3x 6 day breaks, this will tell us a bit about our selection strategies (I felt we didnt make enough changes last year in a similar situation) and depth.

Pedo on the other hand is a natural forward. Not sure why it took 6 weeks to get him there - same as trying to get Frost into the backline last year (took far too long).

I can't see O Mac taking a contested mark against the oppo gorilla backs. He's also too slow to (i) lead and (ii) to break out of a pack. He might be s good kick but I can't see him getting too many.

Our club owes my 11 yo boy, for one, a great debt in having to be one of 2 demons supporters ridiculed at his school over the last 6 years. He actually wants to go to the footy now. There's a spot there for the taking, and we are much more talented than the alternatives. BUT IT MUST BE EARNED, through a 4Q effort, every week. Get it done, boys.

To s man, they have all brought some absolutely sublime talents to the club. It's a credit to the league that we collectively take a round to recognise this.

Last yr Rod I went with my boy to the Carlton game with a Carlton coterie barracking mate and sat in the Carlton coterie. My boy (10) (wearing his dees jersey) was invited to participate in the Carlton guard of honour, but he'd have to take off his jumper. he told them to get stuffed. Your story reminded me of that! Took my boy up to that game on the GC. From memory, we were only 4 pts up at half time. glorious 2nd half, 16 goals to 6.
