  1. interesting the Lambert analogy
  2. I've a different view. Not all forwards are the same. Weid always got trapped under the ball and was easily spoilt. JVR jumps and takes the ball above his head. With Jeffo you've got to look at Hudson or Lockett. He has big shoulders and long arms He takes the ball out in front which makes it incredibly difficult to spoil from behind. He's leaning to use his body more and you saw some of that in the ruck duels he did on the video of the last match sim. I think it's all about confidence now. Might be one of those guys who needs a smack on the ear in a game to get angry and take things on.
  3. The combinations of Langford/Petracca will take one of those spots
  4. After watching the match sim on the MFC website I looked up the team to get a few player numbers right. When you look at the individual players, not only do they have their height, weight etc, they also have their relevant average stats per game and whether they are below average, average, above average or elite. It makes some interesting reading.
  5. haven't heard comments for AMW for a while?
  6. I think we will have a different set up forward but not sure what option we will follow. Petracca and Langford will share a HFF and midfield role. There will be no role that ANB filled because Langford is the extra midfielder so you don't need the defensive forward to go on the ball. Fritsch and Picket will take a HFF and a Pocket. Do they go for 3 talls or 2 and another small pocket. (probably Chandler) Johnson is the spanner in the works. They might rotate Johnson, Turner and JVR through the 2 main positions and resting ruck (ie one on the bench resting of them or Max) That then allows another smaller defensive forward. The trouble is that takes up one of the 4 bench spots that usually they like to keep for running players. You would think Sparrow, Rivers Salem and McVee would be the players alternating through the bench, given a backline of TMac, May, Lever, Petty, Windsor and Bowey. It looks like a contest between Jefferson, Johnson and Turner for either 1 or 2 spots. Its a good problem to have with lots of choices and then a huge amount of depth as well.
  7. Yeah I don't know why they haven't given him time as a key defender. He is probably the only one who has the bulk in the Casey side to take over May's spot if he becomes injured, now that Thommo has gone. All the other defenders at Casey are lightly framed. Not only is it Will's height but you watch Max run his opposition off the park every week. If Will bulks up too much he won't be able to keep up
  8. I hope you are right. The first 4 or 5 games will see if we get at least 2 with high numbers each game. If we do we should be on our way.
  9. If you have 4 players averaging 25 or more then at least 2 will be in the 30's each game in most games. I said capable of it, so 5 of them would fit that.
  10. To have a top midfield you need at least 2 players capable of amassing 30 - 40 possessions a game. A fit Oliver is certainly that but not sure there is a second. Viney is a mid 20's player and Tracc spends a lot of his time forward so doesn't amass huge numbers. The big hope is that Langford becomes another Ashcroft.
  11. thanks
  12. Just saw on the website that they are in fact closed
  13. I was told by another supporter that the gates at casey will be closed to the public. Nothing official but wondering if true or false. 2 of us were thinking of going, but not if it is closed.
  14. No. Glenhuntly was in the federal league. Their reserves and underage teams played at Lord's reserve. St Anthony's also played at Lords Reserve but on the next oval.
  15. yes Kingsley was still there when I left to live in Frankston Many games with Pat at Lords reserve in 68/9 Ran into him at a wedding years later. Went to school behind where the admin building will be at Caulfield High
  16. Go the mighty hunters
  17. Thanks so much. Great summary Comment re Viney playing as defensive small forward when resting? One of the best ways to break lines is by runners and handball. No so much who gives the handball but the number of handball receives(rarely see the stats). Langdon is the perfect example. Any of the newer guys or improvers stand out in that regard?
  18. Ned Moodie to frankston
  19. Consensus seems rather than that main goal scorer, if the two tall forwards (whoever they be) get 60 between them, that should be enough.
  20. Yes average rather than consistently would have been a better word. I agree you can't kick 15 every week. Some weeks it will be 10 and others 20. Thanks for the input. i agree we'll get across the board other contributors. I was just hoping the watchers might suggest who the most likely 70 goal other contributor would be. 330 goals is about what you would need to get in the top 8 on last years ladder.
  21. Our backline will be the best in the comp and keep sides to minimal scores. Our midfield/ruck should be as good as any and have depth. We need to consistently kick 15 goals a game. That's 330 for the season. Picket and Fritsch will kick 80 to 90 of those. Where do the track watchers see the rest (240) coming from? Who kicks how many? If someone else kicks 70 then we are half way there.
  22. The last hunched type forward I remember was peter hudson. With his broad hunched shoulders, bum pushed back, not many defenders could stop him marking. Hope he is somewhere near as good.
  23. How does the Casey training system work both pre season and in season. At some point do they take say 12 melbourne players who are obviously not in line for senior selection and train one day a week with the casey players. Can't imagine a Casey team could gel without some kind of joint training. Or do they just invite 6 -10 Casey players to Melbourne training one day a week.
  24. Have a look at his face in the 2km time trial on the website. That steely determined look compared with the others running behind. When the game is on I don't think you need to worry about a depressed look.
  25. He'll be just what we need to take over from ANB. He is a hunter. He tackles hard and runs to every contest and will make Viney's role much easier. With him, AMW and Viney we will have extreme small/medium player pressure second to no other club. The forwards will love him with his disposal which is a huge plus over ANB.
