  1. Does anyone know if Artic Park ground surface is still shaped like a dome. I remember if you were in the front rows you couldn't see what was happening on the other side of the ground. Probably good for training the ball going out from a kick between the arcs - there would be a lot of that.
  2. No john Lord only played 132 games
  3. It will depend on how the game flows. Last week in the 2nd and 4th quarters and the week before when we moved the ball in quickly we were able to score opportunistic goals from Sharp, both Picketts, Fritsch, Culley, Chandler and the midfielders. JVR was able to lead into space and Mihocek was able to out body one on one. When it came in slow or was crowded the opposite happened. Will be interesting to see which version we get next week.
  4. It was interesting when you compare Berry with XT. Berry just that little bit older and thus a solid body and XT with a slim teenager build. In a game where Dogs were packed with experienced AFL players and bulked up VFL types, it as no wonder Berry looked better than XT. XT might get an AFL game ahead of Berry on a skill level, but next year it will be interesting as Berry will have picked up more skill and Taylor's body will have filled out.
  5. All other posters have said what went wrong with the game so I want to go to the positives. We were 42 points down at quarter time and lost by 48 points whilst being inaccurate in front of goals, so all is not lost. Max, Steele and Langdon did an amazing job of keeping us competitive. Turner was our best defender before he was injured, and if he misses then TMac is a good replacement Whilst Lindsay had a terrible day in defence he looked so much better up the ground. Both he and Salem have to bend over and pick the ball up insted of trying to block it with their feet. AMW was BOG in the VFL game and could provide a spark in defence Sharp continues to kick goals. Desperately need Kentfield back. Heath did OK in the VFL but probably broke even in the ruck at best. Taylor, Only and Matthews tried hard in the VFL but are a long way off
  6. Agree AMW best Add TMac and Campbell and we would look much stronger. Adams slipped back again - needs another year to build up his frame and doubt they will give him that long. Asking too much of Taylor Only and Matthews as first years when no other big bodies around. Would have been a good game for TeAmu to be a focus.
  7. Wouldn't be surprised if AMW came in for Swallow and Lindsay had more time CBA (centre bounce). He looked much better there than in defence and having a lefty gives more options. Against that, dropping Swallow after one game is a bit harsh.
  8. we had 340 disposals which is around average or higher and that's without a couple of players getting 35. It'll vary week to week and if one player kicks it then another doesn't, so there'll always be a couple of players down on possessions. Saints had 70 more possessions but most were just fiddling around, whereas ours were direct and going forward.
  9. A great win Not negatives but some things to consider Tholstrup staying with W/M when he went forward unbalanced the defence. Lever had to play deep instead of high and found himself many times on small forwards. Lindsay is a much better player when he is up the ground, and is not suited to a more defensive role. Would have liked to see Langford swap roles with Culley forward in play, as it would cause opposition defence problems with trying to choose who to pick up. Sparrow had 72% TOG but I couldn't work out what role he was playing. He wasn't deep forward, wasn't used at centre bounces and wasn't close checking anyone. Wasn't playing a linking player role. Maybe it was just one of those days, but I hope he gets a specific job to do.
  10. I don't see the ruck as a problem as we have height all over the ground to combat marking. You always lose at least 40% ruck advantage even when Max is at his best. Clearances don't always go with winning the tap. This combined with less boundary throw ins and a more free flowing game means if you lose 4 or 5 hit outs it doesn't matter, especially if you have a smaller ruck able to contest the clearance.
  11. Howes 191
  12. Not getting into political arguments but have a look at https://adepteconomics.com.au/australias-rapidly-climbing-state-debts/ According to the graphs, Vic public debt (both gross and Nett) per capita is increasing less than all states except WA over the 5 year period. Just on the debt amount (not per capita) there is not much difference between Vic and NSW and we have a hell of a lot more infrastructure than Sydney.
  13. Jiath, Salem,Howes and Lindsay rotating through the 3 medium back positions isn't slow.
  14. Tmac would be the Kenterfield role if he played with a bit forward and a bit back and 20% ruck
  15. training times are on the website under the teams drop down menu.
  16. After watching the saints / Pies game, the Saints look very vulnerable to pace and the fast handball forward game that we are playing. Collingwood carved them up when they got a run on while the saints still try to play the kick/mark game. I wouldn't worry too much about Naz as he will have to try and negate our quick players cutting through their defence. They have a couple of small forwards, but in the middle and defense they only have he and Hill who run all day with pace. The combination of Rivers, Kozzie, Latrelle, Windsor, Sharp, Jiath, Taylor, AMW and Langdon (though obviously all won't play - probably 7 of them will) gives us a huge advantage. Because Marshall is not playing, we don't need the 2 big ruckmen. TMac can play the Kentfield role doing a bit forward and back and a chop out in the ruck as he has done in the past. He also has a big motor and would put any second ruck of Saints under the pump to keep up. Heath will have plenty of games where he will play in sides having two big ruckmen (or maybe just tall defenders/forwards - eg Bulldogs with English, Darcy, Croft and Lobb - all 200+ ).
  17. There's a couple of selections I'd change, but the important thing it shows is depth. There are 15 players in your casey team that could replace injured players without losing all that much. Obviously the more you have to replace then a bigger difference occurs.
  18. I think I agree. With no Mihocek, Jeffo nor Melksham, there is no alternative tall forward when Kentfield does the relieving ruck work. Will be interesting. But Petty has done all pre season as a defender.
  19. I agree, with Max back it's hard to see you gain much playing Moose second ruck as great as he was. Kentfield is much more the utility/ruck. Can go down back or play forward. Ideal as 5th man on the bench. Jeffo also plays a different role to Kentfield who is more JVR or Mihocek. A couple of times Jeffo was in space and showed much more dexterity similar to Fritta. Needs to get involved more though. Sparrow worked hard and ran all day. But he and Tholstrup had a tendancy last year to get caught too often because they took too long to release the ball. Tholstrup is much better this year but Sparrow continues to get caught too often.
  20. There's lots of thing you can teach a new recruit. But you can't teach extreme pace or extreme size (either tall or bulk)
  21. North, Adelaide, Port, west coast, GWS, Carlton, Swans all have big bodied forwards that don't get around that much. Mihocek isn't all that mobile. Some others like Essendon, Pies, Cats and Saints often use a spare ruckman as a key forward. It's really only Freo, Lions, hawks, Suns and Dogs because they are lucky to have 2 or more mobile big men, who don't often use a big bodied stay at home forward.
  22. It's now on the MFC website further down from the highlights on the live stream commentary. Everything is in the perspective that 14 of our list didn't play Most everything was as expected and hoped for. I'm more now convinced that Kentfield can play that tall utility role as 5th man on bench. He did a great job Back, Forward and Ruck. Outside the MFC players I agree about Cross and Ah Mu, but my highlight was that long left foot goal from (who I think is) Toby Sinemma - he really has a weapon there.
  23. Club apparently putting up full replay tonight sometime
  24. With the MFC website today saying Jack Viney won't be back for round 8 (these things usually go longer than expected) Kalani White's Glandular fever will probably be mid year. TC's neck seems long term. Bowey might not be as long as some of the others. McAdam could be anything as he nearly gets there then has a relapse. Then when they do come back they have to get match fit. Most of the other injured wouldn't seem long term injuries. It seems fairly obvious we will get at least one other player from the LTI and I hope they go for a younger player such as the 2 academy players. This year doesn't matter that much about where we finish on the ladder (although expectations are always high) but 27 and 28 we should be challenging more.
  25. Do you know the cut off date for LTI so that we can put a player on our list as we did last year.
