  1. Windsor has lost all confidence and couldn't get a kick at Casey so no point bringing him in. I'd like to see Kentfield played on a wing in the same way most sides have a tall wing who drifts forward for goals. He is mobile and athletic. JVR/Johnson for Petty. TMac for Howes - should never have been dropped No point looking at casey for replacement midfielder for Viney if suspended. The best Casey midfielders were casey players. Probably use Langdon as the extra mid. Wouldn't mind Culley as the sub. We've got to get some more hardness. That first quarter was embarrassing. When we ramped up the pressure we won the last 3/4's.
  2. I've liked what i've seen in the VFL games. He's always been the 3rd tall either forward or back, so you don't get the bulk of the possessions. I don't believe he is tall enough for a key position but because he is so mobile, takes a good mark and is a good kick, I'd like to see him as a tall wingman that most sides now invest in. If we go down that track he is the most eligible on our list to do it other than Langford who will put on size and become an important midfielder. A tall wingman who drifts forward to take a mark and kick a goal would be very valuable. It was strange we had 9 talls in the VFL on the weekend (without Johnson) and only 5 in the main side. It says a lot about the 9 either not tall enough or not good enough. Gold coast had 4 over 200cm.
  3. Like the fact he gets a lot of the ball. Something we have a lack of.
  4. How can you win when the opposition have 3 or 4 players getting around 30 touches each week when only Oliver looks like getting around that on a regular basis. All our midfield can get that many, but only once or twice a year. Most of them struggle to get 20. What happened to the string of handballs and run instead of dumping it long.
  5. I doubt anyone would be looking at dropping any of the collingwood forward line but we want to drop all of ours when you read the comments. When you look at he stats, our forwards did as well or better than theirs. Its just that we kicked too many points, and their players upfield deliver the ball better. Disposal count Elliot 7 McStay 6 Membrey13 Hill 10 Mihocek 6 McCreery17 Fritsch 17 Melksham 8 Petty 9 Pickett15 Tholstrup 9 JVR 8 Sparrow 15
  6. Jefferson and JVR have been playing together in the VFL for a few weeks now, so there must be some sort of chemistry amongst them, so I'd like to see them both come in, Petty to CHB and Lever back to the VFL for a while. Not likely to happen but who knows. Either TMac or JVR have to come in to do the relieving ruck work.
  7. If he hasn't played for 3 years, it makes him eligible for Category B so maybe. Too small for a ruckman so would have to be a key position player, or 3rd tall. Being 196 in basketball in the US means he would be giving away 4 inches to most opponents and considered comparatively small, which means he must be quick and agile. Both Max and Tracc came from basketball backgrounds. Having said that, our last 2 Cat B ex basketballers didn't work out - had all the skill but couldn't get the ball.
  8. Sad that he is still getting concussion symptons whilst training 3 weeks after the event. Wish him the best.
  9. Did Viney do much in the forward line area
  10. A good choice if Salem goes down with injury. But next year he competes with AMW who seems to be ahead of him in the pecking order
  11. Last week he ran at pace and picked up the ball one handed, ran through hawk defenders and kicked the goal
  12. Viney in and play deep defensive forward - has the body to block for petty , melksham and johnson and can kick a goal. Backmen would be looking over their shoulder. Need Johnson in that second ruck role not only for tap but aggression around stoppages, and he's not slow like JVR. Keep Sharp ahead of Spargo - taller, can kick further than 30 metres, has pace, and actually kicks the occasional goal that Spargo does not. Not sure what to do about Lever - all defenders going well and we already have 7 who offer different things (Salem, windsor, McVee, Bowey, May, TMac, Turner) 8 if you count Rivers occasionally. Turner makes the others better because he can play tall, great closing speed and is physical We also need him to have continuity in defence as TMac probably retires next year and May won't go on much longer.
  13. I agree but they also have a number of 200+cm players. We just have Max. Collingwood Moore Frampton Cox Cameron Brisbane Hipwood Andrews Fort McInerney They also have some taller midfielders such as Berry Pendlebury
  14. It's a much bigger midfield Oliver, Rivers, Langford , Petracca (perhaps McVee) all 188 or more. Sparrow 183 and Picket 171 Even the forward line is taller despite losing Petty. 3 talls if Turner goes forward. (lots of crumbing for spargo, pickett and chandler)
  15. I have no preference for Johnson who has more aggression but is short for key position, or Jefferson who has more skill and an extra inch. It's a toss of a coin as to which one would do better this week, and that difference is not going to decide the game. We are not going to win a flag this year and we need to get games into Jefferson at some time.
  16. Jefferson only had a short go then injured. We have to bring him on and now seems like an opportune time. If they do then leave him in for at least4 games to see how he goes. At least he has size and can hang on to a mark.
  17. the way he played off half back at casey was really impressive. He's very mobile for a big guy
  18. Why are we obsessed with 195 forwards when other teams are 200+ At least fullarton has some height - don't see too many defenders outmarking him, even if he doesn't.
  19. Watched the casey game and whilst JVR kicked 5 and Johnson kicked 3 (he should have had at least 7), Johnson was the more impactful player. He led to the ball and was quick off the mark. JVR still wants to wrestle and slow to react.
  20. We won last week by kicking straight. Hope we do it again
  21. it seems most sides after the 6x6 start at a bounce, they use the high half forward as another on baller. This tends to leave the extra defender loose (one reason Bowey gets so much of the ball). But it also means extra space and the other defenders have to play tight, which is why I don't think Adams is there yet.
  22. They played Jefferson as a defender at Casey because with May's injury they needed a tall to fill a key defensive role if another tall defender went down. Howes did as good as he could filling in for Turner, but it meant Max had to play a defensive role (He even said so in a post match interview). Adams is not there yet, so I think Jefferson will take Turner's role. It also gives the option of swapping with Petty if needed. Otherwise no change for a winning side.
  23. Sparrow has been doing a lot of run with roles
  24. Isn't it amazing that with two tall forwards the opposition do not get to intercept mark and allows our smaller forwards to go to town. Great win. Just hope Turner can play next week. He was pivotal in defence. Not only physical but fairly quick as well.
  25. When you look at the lists of other clubs, they have 6 or7 players 200cm or more, and the better clubs have 4 or more in the actual first team. Most take years to develop and our only 2 (Gawn and Campbell) will probably not play beyond 2 years. Fullarton and Verall are close to 200 but neither show much sign of making it at the moment. It will probably take 4 years to get the 6 or 7 200cm players, so the damage on recruiting smalls is already done. We used to say we had a lot of talls but they were all only 195cm or thereabouts apart from a couple of ex basketballers that didn't work out as Category B rookies.
