Is it just paranoia or do the Hawks get every player who wants a change? Hale, Gibson , Burgoyne and now Gunston( didn't know who he was until last week. They have a hard edge/culture and great membership and facilities but so do the other big clubs. Just don't get it. We need to be as attractive as they are to compete with compromised drafts and free agency.

Maybe I am a simple footy romantic , surely getting great coin playing for an historic club against other big melbourne clubs on the best ground in the world is more attractive than better coin for a novelty in west Sydney with a train as the siren where noone gives a rats!!. I'm still hopeful for Tom to be a star for the Dees. Watching Geelong last night and seeing their core if enright, bartel, sellwood etc, I would love to see Scully, trengove, Tappy , grimes, watts, blease with 80 plus games together. Imagine how much of a boost his signature would be as we secure a coach, trades and head to the next preseason?

I totally agree in regard to our inconsistency blah blah blah, but if you win enough games you "deserve" to get in. Every extra game especially a final can only help Watts, Trengove, Scully etc in the future. I just can't believe people don't want to make finals under any circumstances, it's got to be in good form...or with momentum...sunshine will not be blown up their backsides if they lose in the finals. Have you thought how it may ignite something even deeper in their motivation. Do you think Richmonds Chris Newman ever wished to come ninth all those times? It's not a given that we naturally improve as every other club does also. Take it when you can.

Better to come ninth? Why? The supporters have the same amount of killer instinct as the players currently. Grow some stones .. Make the 8, face a good team and expose these guys to where they need to get to. Sure they lose, but they need to play finals FFS. Take a leaf out of essendon, Carlton and collingwoods book (the historically successful clubs) and demand success. This is such a Melbourne football club supporters attitude. Sick of it.

So why do the big clubs get the good players wanting to go there? As if Judd was coming to Melbourne playing in front if 15000 with limited resources and passion? I can understand why he picked the blues, why jolly wanted collingwood. Big games on the G in front of big crowds. It's a cycle we haven't broken becauseplayers and supporters like you don't aim high enough. The thing about footy it's still a club atmosphere and everyone can play a part, no matter how small. Without belief we may as well pack it in and drift off the the vfl. Get some stones and give the lads support, not these half arsed "gee I hope we get beaten by under 5 goals" That is typical Melbourne and part of the reason we have gone so long without a flag. Essendon, collingwood, Carlton and hawthorn all demand and expect success. We would like it maybe if it kinda came our way....as long as we don't offend anyone ....

It's just such a defeatist attitude. With our list they are young full of potential, why not fill them full of support. The Hawks weren't told to keep it close in the 09 grandfinal. They went out to win when they weren't supposed to. When more supporters have this attitude we will be a better club and we have the list to do it. It never ceases to amaze me how we accept crap, supporters expect to lose and the cycle repeats itself. Fire up Dees and the supporters too!

Such a bunch of sad sacks. Why are we even playing? As much as I loathe them, I admire Essendon and their ability to upset higher fancied sides, look what they did to the cats the other week! Great day today to spend a few hours with red and blue everywhere. Players were all approachable and friendly. Seems as though everyone was up for a chat. Good stuff MFC..lets hope the professionalism and enthusiasm continues in to the season proper.

Ohhh..... So beating Adelaide and port in a double header doesn't make us top 4? 7 to 11 is where we might finish.

It absolutely boggles my mind that people talk about being "content" finishing 10th! Seriously I wonder if you really want it. Should the 08 hawks be aiming to finish 10th, they had talented group , more advanced than us but they threw caution to the wind and got a flag. Not saying we can get one but fir crying out loud " content" ? If we all did this we would just go work for the government. Harden up and let's aim at the sky and maybe we will hit the tree tops .

Grandfinals are hard to get into. Just ask the Dogs. Not to be too pessimistic, but its not simoply a matter of getting a year or two older. We need major improvement to A) get into the finals B) Actually matter when when get there (Remember Freo.Haw.Carl all played finals this year but were never a chance) C) Hang with the big boys. Great we have some talent we need many moons to be aligned to give it a real shake.

No one flukes a flag, from memory he finished on top twice aswell. We cannot expect our players to simply get better by osmosis, we need to innovate and be ahead of the curve, not saying they are gone but Geelong was so far of everyone it was not funny, now 2 sides have their measure and more to come. If you are not moving forward you are going backward.

Mark Williams is a great footy guy, plenty of ticker, a smart tactician and has the fire in the belly to ruffle few feathers here and there. The longer the discussions go with Essendon, j feel we need to pick him up on our way up. We have lost premiership experience in wellman. I could not see a better pick up out there. While we are improving I feel we need the pure mongrel of Williams, not saying Bailey doesn't have it, but would it not great to have more?
