I do agree that he filled a role we needed for the one season and we could have never foreseen what has happened. But all the same, Collingwood came out on top if Varcoe is going to play another 2 or 3 seasons. If Hunt or Salem are injured next year then Varcoe would be the depth we could have used as a running defender and a player to keep Harmes and Bugg on their toes about selection.

I think that trade cost us Varcoe, and we should have done a direct swap. Collingwood clearly came out on top.
