PRESEASON TRAINING: Friday 2nd February, 2024
DeeZone replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
I’m thinking you meant Windsor not Edmund.😁 -
That is a great summary of 2023 Demonland we certainly managed to shoot both feet of with our atrocious kicking for goal in the finals but it was a very good result to make top 4 again for the third time in a row. Now we need to capitalise on all that hard work. It will be harder in ‘24 as other teams rise some must fall but I do not believe it will be us, with a smidge of luck, improved forward connection and goal kicking accuracy we will be hard to beat. Let’s hope that Fritta, Petty and Clayton can get back to their scintillating best. Go Dees.!!!

We are still seeing it at GWS / Gold Coast stadiums whereas Tassie is a AFL footy state and should be able to get 15 - 20k on a regular basis, a lot of opposition supporters would also travel to Hobart so great for tourism, we love Hobart.!!

Yes wwsw I must admit that I had forgotten that 3 mth break between R1 and R2 in 2020 and those three boys debuted in R1 & R2, how strange was that year? And just shows that we can’t place limitations on our new recruits. -

Kozzie debuted R1 2020 but Riv & Jacko debuted against Blues in June 2020.😁 -

I take your point DC but Windsor will be introduced into the team in a similar way to Riv, Jacko, Kozzi and bowser. The coaches have managed the debutante’s extremely well so far.😁 -

Thanks WCW for your relayed report very entertaining and picket fence for venturing out to slithersville, very upbeat and informative. Sounds like Windsor is rewarding our recruitment team for their confidence in taking him at No. 7. A lot of knowledgeable posters on this site have been calling out for some outside pace and silky skills to improve our I50 delivery, The Duke, Bowser, Spargs, Billing’s, Kozzie and maybe McAdam can improve this weakness in our game plan. -

Richo mentioned that this week is a down week for Petty and that they were monitoring his loads closely to see how he progresses. So maybe nothing to be concerned with at this stage but Hunter may not be ready for round zero.- 127 replies

Jeez Stevie J doesn’t even mention us in the top 13, that should stir the hornets nest up, a bit of ammo for the coaches. We have the backs and midfield pretty well covered with sufficient depth to cover for some injuries, however need Clayton back at some stage. What we do need is a bit of luck with our forwards both Fritta and Petty are critical to our structure, JVR will keep getting better. Kozzie, ANB and Spargs have been strengthened by Jack Billing’s and Shane McAdam plus we have Sestan, Fullarton, Jefferson and Verrall building at Casey. When you throw in Woewodin, Laurie, Disco, Howes, Adams, Farris-White the Kolt, the Duke and young Brownie plus Jake Melksham come finals I am thinking top 4 in ‘24. I am also expecting several of our youngsters to have breakout seasons this year and will more than cover for the players that we have lost. Go Dees. Like Macca and 58er I am a bit bullish about our chances in 24 - 28 and also very keen to see what McQualter brings to the table.

That’s relatively good news on Tom Fullarton dodged a bullet there.😁

Thanks Joeboy and Picket Fence for the excellent training reports and travelling out to CF and all posters for their comments and observations. Schache is an interesting one, has the height for ruck/fwd, is it possible that Josh has started to click on what he needs to do to keep his AFL career alive? I am also on Will Verrall watch as I am hoping that he is a live one!!
-
Thanks Joeboy - More please.!!
-
Thanks Six6Six so good to be able to go back in time and see how we built our Premiership team but apart from Hibbo, Jordan and Hannan slim pickings for 2017.

Jacko, Kozzie and Riv all played year 1, so I won’t be surprised if the Duke and the Kolt get games early in their careers.😁 -
I just posted on the BBB thread but this is probably more relevant, Benny Brown should go on the long term injury list and bring in the best ruck/fwd available. Would ease the pressure and use BB as a fwd coach.
-
Might be an opportunity to place Ben on the long term injury list and pick up the best ruck/fwd running around in the VFL/ SANFL/WAFL.
-
From all training reports Jake is ready to go for ‘24 he has the speed and skills to play in a multitude of roles, I am sure we will maximise his abilities.!!
