  1. @joeboy Can we also please get a 3 word player analysis for their season? ?
  2. I decided to make plans today to avoid watching today’s game (probably for the first time in 5 years). I was intermittently checking the scores though, and when I saw that we were a point up with 2-3 mins remaining, I started watching on my phone to see our co-captain take a mark in defence and do what a first gamer would do in a similar situation. I just smirked and thought, of course. No doubt his last kick as a captain of this club.
  3. Just have an inkling that Goodwin and co will get things right over the summer and we’ll jump out of the blocks. I see us finishing 5th-6th but still short of class of beating the top tier teams such as Richmond, West Coast, Lions (I think they’ll be good again next year) etc. We’ll win our first final but play a tough away semi-final and fall short. If we somehow do finish top 4, due to a really soft draw and win week 1, I think we could almost get to the GF. I think this prediction is probably 90% red + blue optimism with about 10% logic.
  4. The Gawn captain campaign is gaining some more momentum after Goody was asked about it on SEN. Gawn was asked by Footy classified on Monday about being captain - there's a small video snippet on twitter of him being asked the question. In Max's usual style, he was humble about it and joked about his limited captain experience while also saying he's a "Nathan Jones" man. Didn't even mention Viney which was strange. https://twitter.com/FootyClassified/status/1163430123304919040 - edit have pasted the link. Got no idea how to embed tweets on DL.
  5. Pretty sure the AFLPA requires the players to have a minimum of 6-8 weeks break or something a long those lines. Goody and his coaches need that 6 weeks to devise a game plan that will get us back into finals and ready to present to the players Day 1.
  6. That's an interesting point. Our points against this year is 1,907 so the time-on against score of 635 represents 33%. Let's say there's on average 30mins of game time in a qtr, so that means there's close to 33% of our scores against us happen in the last 10 mins of play. Comparing to Geelong who's total points against is 1,401; their 471 scores conceded also represents 33% - so it's all relative really. Bottom line: Points conceded in time on is basically an exact mirror of the points conceded as a whole - therefore this analysis doesn't really provide any different insight.
  7. I'm sorry, but how did he destroy either of those clubs? St.Kilda were an absolute rabble under Grant Thomas. He took them to consecutive grand finals and was one good bounce away from being a Premiership Coach. Also got Freo to a grand final and consecutive finals series but faced a once-in-a-generation Hawks side. I know he left the Saints when the wheels started to fall off, but it was only time I can remember when the Saints were actually a formidable side.
  8. Despite all the game plan tinkering which Goodwin has admitted to as a failure, I still think the lack of preseason to a lot of players is still the major factor. Goodwin stated on radio that he had some severe doubts about the prospect of the season as early as the summer and by round 3 those doubts were full blown alarms. Goodwin knows his footy and he knows exactly how hard a playing group has to work and he knew we were miles behind the pack. As supporters, we’ll be acutely aware of how well we’re going to fare by February when we start seeing intraclub matches and our first JLT. We won’t have to wait for round 1. We should, in theory, witness a massive up swing in two way running, spreading from the contest, spread on transition, defensive efforts, skills execution and more.
  9. There's no way May will be made VC due to his fitness levels this year as well as his drinking indiscretion. There will be too much bad PR with that appointment. He needs some credits in the bank - I'd say 2021 would be good for May to be in the LG or even as a VC. For me it'll be one of the two scenarios next year: 1) Captain: Max Gawn VC: Viney (Clubs just don't dump you from Co-Captain to just in the LG unless you're in the twilight of your career). LG: Jetta and Tmac 2) Co-Captains: Gawn/Viney LG: Jetta and Tmac. This way you have a leader in every aspect of the ground. I think they'll give Lever another year of focusing on his game before naming him in the LG. I just get the feeling the club won't have the gall to drop Viney straight out of any vice or co-captaincy duties. At a minimum I think they'll keep him in the LG.
  10. 100% agree. Anyone with ACL risk you’d leave out.
  11. Max Gawn - Sole captain Delist: JKH, AnB, Stretch and J.Wagner Trade out: J Viney (I know it won’t happen though), OMac Trade in: Langdon, Hill New game plan over off season Solidified forward line over the preseason of: Tmac, Weid, Fritsch, J Smith, Hannan and Vandenberg Burgess to reshape Trac into an explosive mid Off-field: New Footy GM (someone like Balme) Let go of: Chaplin New assistants (obviously)
  12. Yes - I just see it as an expensive charitable donation but where I’ve lost the receipt.
  13. I’ll need to give that a listen. So does that mean we’re getting a new Footy GM?
  14. 100% agree. Unlike some of the commentators on Fox, Dunstall often talks a lot of sense.
  15. I’m 33, which might be young to some supporters on this page, and started following us in 1996. This is without a doubt the worst season I’ve experienced. The disappointment after so much hype is just absolutely crushing. Something really stinks with this club. There’s something rotting and I really hope this internal review yields something.
  16. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a more impotent forward line. Really regretting the decision to come to the G tonight.
  17. Another plodder. Should look to trade at season’s end. Unfortunately for Jack, he wouldn’t be in the starting midfield for most clubs.
  18. @Supermercado - Stone Cold Jennings or actually something more to this?
  19. Nothing. I just want him to call for an external review so someone outside the club can point out the deficiencies with the FD.
  20. How could the club be happy when we still haven't won a premiership? Did Richmond have an external one at the end of 2016 or was it just internal?
  21. Why are we, as a club, so resistant to an external review? Is Pert worried about saving face? We're 17th on the ladder after the no.1 AFL statistics company ranked our list the best in the AFL. External reviews should be welcome as we clearly need some assistance.
  22. Let the clean out continue I say. Finishing 17th is a clear sign that wholesale changes are needed.
  23. I wonder if the reason Gawn wrote about it in the Herald Sun with the title "Goody made me do it" was that Gawn didn't actually agree with the move. In the article he talked about the sound reasoning, but it made me suspicious that Gawn stated that Goodwin said it had a positive influence in the second half of the match on QB and he should adopt it for all of Saturday's game. From my recollection, we got flogged after half time on QBD. Anyway. It just seems strange to bring attention to it and almost as an explanation/excuse as to why he played that way on Saturday I think Goody's experimenting with different tactics is admirable, but I feel it's just a scatter gun approach hoping that something hits. It's almost as if he's having a stab in the dark while all the other coaches have night vision goggles on.
  24. I have no doubt the Pies would have beaten us by >40pts if they had their full list on the park, but having said that, what they did have yesterday is still pretty formidable. We have no one near the class of Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Howe + a few others. They have a much more experienced side and even though this year has been a disaster, you still have to realise our list is just so young. Once you drop Jones and Lewis, the average age/games experience plummets.
