Great again this week. Should be making some people eat their words, if they are able recognise it.
-
Sorry, didn't read the previous one. No wading through where there is zero chance of intelligent discussion, as opposed to slim.
-
Honestly, how do we know there are any boos based on racism to begin with? Because the media tell us? Because, well, there's racist people out there, so there must be some percentage that are doing it for that reason? It's all supposition.
-
But watching that clip he appears to have no understanding of the game, which is why it doesn't occur to him that people would boo Goodes simply for the way in which he plays the game.
-
Had they? I didn't notice that, but I didn't watch the whole game. It did seem a very odd decision at the time, totally uncalled for and unnecessarily aggressive. Couldn't heat any booing on tv, and I thought he was bringing negative attention towards himself, regardless of his intention.
-
That's it. He may be a [censored], but it is immature pack-mentality bullying, and it should stop.
-
I don't think its that difficult. One is an expected traditional war dance performed as a gesture directly toward the opposing team prior to the beginning of a match. The other was a totally unexpected aggressive non-traditional act performed directly toward opposition supporters, in a way that was certain to incite the crowd. I don't really have a problem with it, but at the time it made me sit up and say "interesting decision by a bloke who seems to not enjoy the crowd booing at him."
-
Wrong, because it's irrelevant. He might not win them, but he plays for them. Obviously. And it does him no favours. He's not alone, but you can't behave like that and then act like a paragon of virtue off-field, and not expect some form of derision.
-
I will never boo Goodes. But similar to Judd, him being a great player will never make me forget the sniping, tripping, dropping of the knees, taking players legs out, whinging, playing for frees, and general douchebaggery. He's not alone in this respect. But he seems to be the only one put on a pedestal, who cries poor me, and who has the race card called for him whenever he is criticised, by those eager for a bit of ill-considered race shaming.
-
Or alternatively he finds rumours on football forums and turns it into "news" because so many people are willing and desperate to believe.
-
Can I offer my right one instead?
-
So... The travesty is that you believe everything you hear on 3AW?

I think Roos is deliberately playing the long game, firmly establishing defensive mechanisms, with Goodwin then to come in and determine the offensive ball movement in his own style. Provide a blank canvas, if you will. I think Roos is very aware that he is not here for much longer, so is actually trying to set Goody up for success in the role. In some part sacrificing the now, pulling the reigns a little.

Bringing Prestia and Weideman onto the list, for instance, would be a great boon for the club.

Not with protected picks. Picks will likely be top 5 or top 10 protected, more often than not.

2015 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

Would be disappointed with Tucker or Mathieson. One doesn't get enough of it and the other lacks finesse. -
I don't think Bail or Matt Jones were contending for the same HBF Terlich has been. He provides a mature body, that a rookie or late pick likely wouldn't.

That would actually be SMART list management. Going to a player like Terlich with such a proposal creates a win-win situation. He knows he doesn't have a long career ahead of him, might as well cash in while he can, under the proviso he may not play out the entire contract length. The club maintains list cap flexibility by not having to massively overpay someone like Watts, Dawes or Garland, just to make the minimum overall cap payment.

2015 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Mach5 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's interesting to see all those serious concerns about Jake Lever's injury history last year at draft time were well founded. If the Trengove trade went through, he'd be on our list. -
Terlich was re-signed as a recent top 5 B&F performer, and precious little proven, mature talent on the list as an alternative. My best guess is that he was a cheap insurance plan. If we jettisoned him, and were later caught short, we'd be loudly criticised. We haven't needed him, he is a strong candidate for delisting, but I wouldn't get carried away. I don't think the opportunity cost has been that great.

You're right, Todd Viney has done nothing for this club.

Treloar is about the same height as Scully.

2015 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

No one with any idea described either of those 2 as aggressive. Would love to see a quote too. -
I think that rjay has put it really well in another thread, when he said that these other clubs we're currently comparing ourselves with (St Kilda, Bulldogs) have ageing champion players still on the list who provide the experience and drag the kids along with them. We haven't had that, due to needing to rebuild from a dramatically failed rebuild, rather than rebuilding from a failed premiership tilt. Our experience has largely been brought in as cast-offs from elsewhere, meaning lesser quality, or we've had to pay for it, lessening our ability to draft in quality young talent. We have it, but the depth is still wanting. Also, it's worth remembering that although we have been competitive at times, a great chunk of the players we are relying on are only in their first or 2nd seasons of AFL footy: Brayshaw, Stretch, ANB, Harmes, JKH, Vandenberg, Salem, Hogan. Even Michie, Riley & Newton came to the club having played 1, 12 & 4 career AFL games respectively. Where should our expectations reasonably be? I'd also be cautious of overestimating the opposition, despite some of their impressive performances, much like most do at this point with us.
