In fairness there have been some really questionable decisions around the management of certain players this yead Both Salem and Rivers started the year off with bandages around their knees and were very poppy and have been since. They were CLEARLY not 100% fit and that's where I question if it was necessary they had to play so early and quickly from their knee injuries when best caution of practice would be too take as much time as possible. I look at the way they managed Hibberd and thought that was done far more professionally and his recent form bar Collingwood showed that he hasn't looked out of touch at all. Even the recent James Jordon knee injury. Since he hurt his knee he's running around and has a turning circle of a Ben Brown. He's lost his speed and power as of a result of this and it's costing us big time because he's awareness and slow movement kills our transition chains. The decision to continue to play Jordon when he's clearly not fit with that knee really is puzzling. There's fit blokes at Casey that can come in or even better, we move Brayshaw to a wing and get Bowey in.

Wouldn't be surprised if this one waits until after the trade period. It's looking like we're going to be active this year and could be some player movement with the Jackson/Grundy and maybe Karl Amon.

Would fit in well at North

Correct, it's not his fault. Thought I think Callum Ah Chee thinks otherwise. -

So are Melbourne supporters going to boo Cripps tomorrow night? or are we a bit more civilised compared to the mob last week... -

Can't say I'm confident the next person after Gil will make that much of a difference unfortunately 'Red'. -
Makes sense with the knee strapping last week.

Patrick Cripps FREE to play

It means it's the most Melbourne thing ever that a star player gets off against us through an appeal. And it's the most Melbourne thing ever that Cripps will most likely have 30 plus disposal and kick 3 to win them the game after being down 10 points at 3 qtr time. But in all seriousness, I'm still confident we win. It would even be sweet beating them with Cripps playing as Carlton fans are hanging onto every little hope to make finals. And of course the same usual suspect laughing against any comment I make.. typical. -

You can see how this script is going to be written for Saturday night.. And it's not going to be good. -
I'll be ropeable if we give up a first rounder. Collingwood will walk out with daylight robbery.

Another week where team selections annoy me once again..

I'm also confused by Goodwins presser yesterday. He stated that they have been really happy with Gawns progress in the forward line and could see this as something that could be used more often down the track. Checks notes and see that Gawn hasn't kicked a goal since round 12 against Sydney... Goody is a funny bugger. ...

Article in the Sun by Jay Clark stating the Todd Viney is tipped to becoming Clarko's right hand man in a Neil Balme type role at the club. Supposedly Clarko is putting the feelers out to get a working crew behind him for the job. In the same article it also states that according to industry figures, there's strong talk that Adem Yze will be the man for the GWS job.

Why so that in 2-3 years time we completely fall off the cliff because both our ruckman are banged up and probably retired with no up and coming ruckman coming through and no talent as well because we spent that first round pick on a 29 old ruckman with injury problems. Read a few posts above. To have sustain success you need to have a good balance of senior experience and breed of new wave of talent coming through. As it currently stands, we haven't bred any new talent this year. At least by the time Gawn is ready to retire we'll have a Meek/Flynn ready to take on the number role full time as they should then be at the peak of their career. Not only this, we also saving potentially 700k in the bank. This money could be partially used towards guys like a Kozzie Pickett who come out of contract next year or a genuine key forward that is a much greater need.
-
There is other alternatives in bringing in a ruckman without breaking the bank and coughing up a 1st rounder.. you do realise that right? Cheaper options like Lloyd Meek, Matt Flynn, Sam Hayes have all shown they are capable of holding down the main rucking role when given the opportunity. All 3 are now mature enough with several years under their belt at AFL level.

For me we shouldn't be giving up a first round pick for a 29 year old ruckman. Regardless of who pays how much portion of the salary. That's just silly, especially coming off some significant injury concerns.
-
I'd rather years of sustained success, not 3 years and then a significant drop off the cliff. You need s good balance of bringing in key players that can certainly help straight away but a breed of new talent as well.

My concern I have with the whole Grundy saga is what draft capital we have to give up? Jay Clark on triple M stated that the two first rounders we'll get from Freo which he thinks we'll be in the teens, one we'll go to Collingwood for Collingwood. If this is the case then we're making a huge mistake giving away a first round pick for a ruckman who's going to be 29 next year.
