2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Curtain would be good but our needs has to be a midfielder imo. I've been a Duursma supporter for a while but Ryley Sanders is a big watch for me and someone that switching more towards as each game goes by. Inside midfield bull who's got that real break away power and pace out of the stoppages. Really reminds me of Petracca/Dustin Martin with his body shape and physical strength. One to watch as he'll be around our selection of 5-7 hopefully.

Our NGA prospect Riak Andrew is playing his first Coates League game tonight for the Dandenong Stingrays. Named down back. He's coming up against Kynan Brown's Oakleigh Chargers. Kynan named as a rover.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs Yartapuulti
Yeah I've had this same thought straight after that Richmond scratch match where he came on and fitted in seamlessly. I reckon they would have chosen Taj ahead of Laurie on the day. I do know for a fact Mark Williams rates Taj very high for his work ethic and professionalism. Makes me wonder whether they're happy to let Jordon seek other opponents with Taj in mind to tale over his spot?

Usually emergencies will fly out tonight if they're not needed.

Ok, slowly coming around to the Salem. Some of you blokes have talked me into it. Am thinking Brayshaw or Rivers playing as the filling in midfielder? Anyone really surprised Harmes was selected or not even in the extended 26 squad? Genuinely thought he was a shoe in. Also, good to see Taj Woewodin as an emergency. Just shows he's getting really close now.

PREGAME: Rd 10 vs Yartapuulti
Wow... genuinely shocked. I know Goody mentioned it in his presser but didn't think it come to fruition. Where's the selection integrity in all this? No VFL game off the back of a serious injury and comes straight in? Guys like Jordon, Laurie, Harmes all putting in solid performance at VFL level and still get overlooked. Don't think coaches have learnt anything from last year lol..

Farewell James Harmes
Yes I am aware it has nothing to do with the club but it would certainly still impact his daily personal life whether that's being at the footy club or not.

Jayden Hunt, Jack Watts, Sam Weideman were all happy at the club and did not want to leave either? But their opportunities at senior level was drying up and told by Goodwin and list management that they werent guaranteed senior games moving forward and beyond so they seemed better opportunities even though they all wanted to stay. I mean, for all we know we don't even know if he's happy? Having to take personal leave for private personal matters on top of not playing senior football and stuck at VFL level off the back of assessing his options last year. Yeah don't think he'd be exactly be happy inside from a playing opportunity point of view..

I don't think anyone would begrudge him leaving and most certainly will go down a premiership hero. But he'll be 28 next year and he has every right to look after his own backyard regardless whether people think being a Melbourne supporter will be his saving grace. If he can squeeze another 3 years of playing good senior footballer elsewhere then it's a win for Harmesy career!

Don't mind this at all actually.

We're the kings of kicking out.
Good little article and analysis by David King (Still annoys me) which explains about the importance of our kick outs by Steven May. I think this has frustrated fans by being so one dimensional but seems to be another of our key stat that's working well for us.

You can make a case that a few clubs could use Tommo as an experienced depth and would certainly play more senior games elsewhere. Essendon, WB and Hawthorn are 3 that come to mind.

Gee whiz Appears you can't have a decent footy related discussion on here without the same usuals coming on here beating their chest telling you what you should or shouldn't write on a footy related discussions. 😅

You don't get it do you? You actually just named a good player in Jackson leaving our club for bigger coin and family. That's a good player right there leaving after success. Harmes literally said yes to meeting to meeting up with Essendon last year. That's pretty much him saying he was up for a change of scenery purely because he wanted more senior opportunities playing as a full time midfielder and he could foresee that his opportunities playing midfield at Melbourne was drying up.. which it has now. The only reason his not in Essendon colours this year is because Scott didn't bother to turn up to the meeting that Josh Mahoney organised with Harmes. Believe it or not some players actually don't want to be the 24th player at the club when they know they'd be best 22 at another club. Funny that huh?

Let's try not to overrate Harmes here.. He's a good honest foot solider and that's it. He'll get a game at Essendon purely because they purely lack any inside midfielder that do the dirty work. They have an up and comer in Ben Hobbs who's already looking good for the future and Will Settlefield who's a battler filling in for now.

What's all this got to do with him wanting to further more senior opportunities which clearly he'll assess again at the end of the year. So many good players have left their respected club where they were much loved to seek better opportunities. Dont pretend this is a once off. He's not going to hang around just to be stuck as a 24th/Casey player. He'll have every Melbourne supporters blessing if he decides to seek a trade purely to play more senior footy. No one will begrudge him.

Yeah fair point.

Reckon North would be a great fit. Has the Todd Viney connection, but would also add some inside strength with Ben Cunnington on his last legs.
