I don't think anyone would begrudge him leaving and most certainly will go down a premiership hero. But he'll be 28 next year and he has every right to look after his own backyard regardless whether people think being a Melbourne supporter will be his saving grace. If he can squeeze another 3 years of playing good senior footballer elsewhere then it's a win for Harmesy career!

Don't mind this at all actually.

Gut feel or just something you've heard internally?

Good little article and analysis by David King (Still annoys me) which explains about the importance of our kick outs by Steven May. I think this has frustrated fans by being so one dimensional but seems to be another of our key stat that's working well for us.

You can make a case that a few clubs could use Tommo as an experienced depth and would certainly play more senior games elsewhere. Essendon, WB and Hawthorn are 3 that come to mind.

Gee whiz Appears you can't have a decent footy related discussion on here without the same usuals coming on here beating their chest telling you what you should or shouldn't write on a footy related discussions. 😅

You don't get it do you? You actually just named a good player in Jackson leaving our club for bigger coin and family. That's a good player right there leaving after success. Harmes literally said yes to meeting to meeting up with Essendon last year. That's pretty much him saying he was up for a change of scenery purely because he wanted more senior opportunities playing as a full time midfielder and he could foresee that his opportunities playing midfield at Melbourne was drying up.. which it has now. The only reason his not in Essendon colours this year is because Scott didn't bother to turn up to the meeting that Josh Mahoney organised with Harmes. Believe it or not some players actually don't want to be the 24th player at the club when they know they'd be best 22 at another club. Funny that huh?

This...

Let's try not to overrate Harmes here.. He's a good honest foot solider and that's it. He'll get a game at Essendon purely because they purely lack any inside midfielder that do the dirty work. They have an up and comer in Ben Hobbs who's already looking good for the future and Will Settlefield who's a battler filling in for now.

What's all this got to do with him wanting to further more senior opportunities which clearly he'll assess again at the end of the year. So many good players have left their respected club where they were much loved to seek better opportunities. Dont pretend this is a once off. He's not going to hang around just to be stuck as a 24th/Casey player. He'll have every Melbourne supporters blessing if he decides to seek a trade purely to play more senior footy. No one will begrudge him.

Yeah fair point.

Reckon North would be a great fit. Has the Todd Viney connection, but would also add some inside strength with Ben Cunnington on his last legs.
-
Think this would benefit Hames and the club both ways from a mutual position.

He played through some significant groin issues last year which had a huge impact on him sliding out to the rookie draft. The club nursed him through the pre season as there was still some lingering issues there to manage. Poor kid, watched him against St Kilda in the second game and he was very impressed. Took a couple of good strong contested marks.

Seriously loved that! I wish that went for an hour. Matthew Whelan doesn't get enough credit for his impact at the footy club as a player mentor to Aaron Davey in his playing days to then having a significant role off field to our indigenous players like Koz.

Decent pipes on the kid.

Could start as a sub then play more minutes the following day with Casey.

Marshall is a definite out. Dixon I will presume as such considering it was supposedly a minor strain to his quad at training last week.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
dazzledavey36 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I remember Brad doing a pre season with the Dees back in 2002 for a rookie list spot. Unfortunately just couldn't quite have thr talent as his old man. Played only a few games for Sandy in the VFL but then we went back to suburban level. -
There is predicted rain on Friday night. Makes me now wonder whether they'll bring in Joel Smith instead for the extra speed and ground ball ability.

Goody on AFL 360 just said either McDonald or Brown will come in for Petty.

I'd bring Schache to play a defensive role on Alir. He did successfully when he completely took him out of the game back in the 2021 finals series.

Sparrow cops one week ban for rough conduct
dazzledavey36 replied to Seraph's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mate come on.. You can clearly see now he's slung around with such momentum that he doesnt even have time to protect himself hence he's smacked his head hard on the ground. It's easily a 1 week suspension. -
Did anyone actually see the incident on Petty? Did it just get stomped on?
