POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Essendon
Umpiring was terrible but I thought we were as lucky in the first quarter, as Essendon were in the last with a number of questionable decisions so I guess it evened out. Essendons ability to put scoreboard pressure was their biggest problem, would have been a different game if they kicked straight This game may become a turning point, not for this year, but next as our young talent is now really making it's mark and we should be able to put a much better team on the field next year

Free to Air TV Losing Money and Shedding Jobs - What does that mean for footy?
FTA died in the USA decades ago, Cable is nearly dead here as well. Everything is streamed here now

Food at the Footy
I'm loving attending regular baseball games here in California watching the San Francisco Giants Full strength beer, crab cakes, garlic fries, decent burgers - it's a heck of a lot better than the [censored] served at an AFL game

Welcome to Demonland Koltyn Tholstrup
Loved the aggro at half-time, young fella was walking around like he had watermelons under each arm after a few push and shoves 😂 I like this kid

Steven May staging fine
It set an appalling example to all the other players, especially the junior ones. It was a disgraceful act, the fine should have been a hell of a lot more Our club needs to be better than this, little wonder that we are having the season that we are having, with players resorting to this kind of behavior. It is embarrassing.

The Controversial Discussion about the Knee that needs to be had
TL;DR We need to review the rule of contesting the ball in the air, with the perspective of banning hitting players in the back or the back of the head, making it an instant free kick and, if the player gets injured, a reportable offense. As a lifelong fan of the game, and a former player in the MPNFL in the 90s, my connection to AFL runs deep. Even after migrating to the USA 4 years ago, I make it a point to watch every game. However, the physical distance has given me a new perspective, allowing me to reflect on the game without the constant AFL noise that used to dominate my life. Let me be clear, this is not a post aimed at condemning Moore. As a former player, I understand the strategies and techniques using knees in contest that are part of the game. Bringing your knee up when jumping into a contest was part of our training, a strategy to protect ourselves and to hit the player in front. Ideally, it was to knock them down, and if injury occurred, it was seen as a bonus. I have not written this as a knee jerk to the Trac injury that occurred during the game. I know it is a legal move. But now we have a player with broken ribs and internal injuries and it is the second time this has happened this year - the first was Mays injury. While this is bad, the more serious side is the knee in the back of the head, which is still allowed. Hitting anyone in the back of the head is dangerous; with a knee (or elbow/fist) done at speed, it can cause concussion and long-term have all the effects that we are all too familiar with in the loss of Brayshaw. The NFL in the USA banned the use of the knee in aerial contests (say between a Wide Receiver and a defensive player like a Safety) due to the high risk of injury and an illegal attempt to interfere with a legitimate aerial contest. It is now time for the AFL to reconsider the rules around aerial contests for the ball, including center ball-ups, and ban bringing the knee up to protect players. This change will prolong the careers of ruckmen and also prevent head injuries. In the case of someone standing under a hospital pass getting cleaned up, it should be an instantly reportable offense, given the high risk of serious injury to a player. Last point: while I acknowledge some will decry such a rule as "softening" the game and the inevitable death of "the hanger," I would rather see the game evolve (which it has done for 150 years) to protect players and prolong careers. Changing this rule will still allow taking a mark on someone's back; you just cannot hit them with an outstretched knee. You must use your shin, and just like in tackling and bumps, you have a duty of care to your opponent. Do it wrong, and you pay the penalty.

The road to Top 4
People easily forget WCE have some very handy players. Barass, McGovern, Waterman, Darling, Kelly. Reid is incredible We should be thankful Yeo wasn't playing either. Competition is incredibly even. WCE were due, we have to pivot from this switching, keepings off, bruise-free style of play now as it is enabling opposition teams to get a jump on us

Netflix and live sport
Your router is just the gateway for internet access to your home which it will broadcast as a Wifi Signal for your devices and provide a wired connection to devices/switches through the cable ports on the back. It will be one or a combination of the following Your TV settings are not configured to connect to your router over Wifi properly Ideally run a cable from the TV direct to the router you will get higher resolution and better quality You do not have an account with the video provider you are trying to access You have an account with the video provider, but the subscription plan prevents it You are being geo-blocked from accessing the video You can get around this with a VPN but shop around as many of them are blocked by streaming providers as they have increased their VPN detection - or they use a third party to do it (Kayo does this through Amazon Web Services)

Netflix and live sport
I live in California and can watch a number of AFL and Rugby games on YouTube.TV, Fubo TV and Fox Sports. I use the WatchAFL app as it guarantees I get every game, the ones listed above (especially YouTube.TV which I subscribe to) don't always get them

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Carlton
Weitering was incredible last night, hell of a player. He was the difference in my view Changing our game plan to go forward at all costs in the last quarter came too late in the game but I was pleased to see us pull it back to a close loss. AFL needs to get serious on players deliberately throwing their heads into the ground, it's being milked for free kicks and the players know it <-- we're no different to every other team. Unless it's a totally obvious sling tackle it should not be paid, or we start making padded helmets mandatory (which in my view we should be doing but I'm not about to have that debate as I am no expert)

POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs Brisbane
Fatigue was the reason we lost. Knowing this was our third game in 13 days, Fagan forced it to be a highly contested ball game to suck the energy out of us, never allowing the game to open up so players could get more time and space. Ugly game to watch, not just because we lost either. Losing Salem was bad as we lost a mid-field rotation option and with Koz out it required them all to play extended minutes. However I don't think it would have made much difference, the result was inevitable, I'm amazed it was only 22 points Thankfully we have the bye so the players can recuperate, they need it

Jack Viney 200 Games
Love that Jack has always been such a a clean skin. Never had any off field controversies, never needed some idiotic bogan haircut or a swathe of tough stickers either.

Angus Brayshaw Forced into Retirement
Every single one of us has in effect a quota of serious concussions we can withstand before they start to affect our brains and where continued ones beyond that will lead to CTE. And that quota is different for all of us. The time between concussions can make little to no difference as well. It depends on the person

Angus Brayshaw Forced into Retirement
Maynards hit was absolutely intentional and the handling of it by the AFL should come back to haunt them as it was a digusting decision by the tribunal to let him play. Contact to the head, no, matter, what, in the AFL should be severely dealt with, irrespective of what faux tough keyboard/couch warriors or retired "good old days" players say. And while I respect this is an emotional time any anger at Maynard is misguided. It is not Maynards fault that Angus is retiring. Angus's retirement comes from repeated hits to the head, there is no "root cause" reason for the retirement (i.e. Maynard) it is through multiple contributing factors. The reality is repeated hits to the head will, over time, take longer to recover from and eventually cause irreversible impacts to the human brain. And the amount of damage you can sustain is unique to every person. My daughters friend got a bad head knock playing soccer when she was 15. It was the first time she had a serious hit to the head. It took 12 months to make a recovery, she got another knock and the doctors told her she could no longer play contact sport. For me personally I've had 10 concussions through footy, surfing, boxing and general idiocy growing up. After I got briefly knocked out in a surfing accident 5 years ago that required skull surgery I had a full brain scan. Luckily there were no symptoms and I'm in my late 40's. I now wear a helmet every time I surf/skate/snowboard just to be safe. Everyone is different, unfortunately Angus's buffer of head injuries ran out.

Dees Could Become ‘One of the Worst One-Hit Wonders’
I was alive on planet earth for 45 years before I saw a flag. And I never, ever thought I would live to see it. Publish your headlines and be damned.

Matthew Lloyd Worried About the Dees in 2024
Recent off field shenanigans with more potent revelations (likely) to come, would suggest that all is not well behind the scenes and it that we do not have a strong enough culture, from end-to-end, that is essential to winning a flag let alone making it to top four. Our window was 2021, 2022 and 2023. It's going to be a long cold winter, thankfully I live in the Northern Hemisphere

How did you become a Demon?
I come from a big Melbourne family on my mothers side My uncle bought me a Demons jumper with Robbie Flowers number on the back when I was born. I was the first grandchild in my mothers family so there was never going to be any doubt I'd be a Demons supporter - my dad wisely did not protest

Welcome Back to Demonland Marty Hore
Marty was a serviceable player and I also thought he was stiff to get delisted. He's there for defensive depth and we still need that

Jack Watts interview
As fate would have it I was at the G when Port played us the first year Jack was playing for the Power and his family were sitting right behind us. In the last quarter we had some friendly banter with them as they were all in Port gear and we were playing terrible and went on to lose. The whole time I didn't know it was Jacks family until the siren went and his dad asked me if I knew who he was! Really nice bloke, as were his family. I shook their hands, wished them well and let them know that I hope Jack does well at Port because we all knew the Demons were not a great club and he clearly had a tough time there. I truly hope Jack is in a better place. We were a terrible club back then and neither he nor the other players deserved what Connolly, Neeld and Schwab had done to the place
