  1. Bartram - kept on trying Bell - career worst game Bruce - classy but limited Carroll - tried but overwhelmed Davey - finally found form Dunn - some classy touches Green - prolific but wasteful Jamar - not a footballer C. Johnson - not a footballer Jones - couldn't break shackles McDonald - little to enthuse McLean - had no impact Miller - never stopped trying Morton - very little influence Neitz - a complete embarrassment Rivers - classy as expected Robertson - committed too late Sylvia - performed in defence Wheatley - continued stellar season Whelan - needed the run White - not on field Wonaeamirri - continued to please
  2. He was interviewed by Demon supporter Nick McCallum (in the absence of an ill Neil Mitchell) to discuss the intricacies and difficulties facing him with the ' toughest gig in town '. I was aware beforehand that he was a very impressive speaker but from the first moment that he spoke of the 'excitement and honour 'of coaching such a ' great club ', I knew we had a fine man heading us into the future. He claimed to be not daunted at all by the 3 losses, though obviously he'd have preferred the alternative, but he had no reason to believe that his game plan was not the correct route to take, and that the players would ultimately come to grips with it and the coaching panel's philosophies, with the commensurate improvement in performance. He spoke of the frustrations with having no set pre season training base, and how he had stood in awe yesterday when the goal posts were finally installed at The Junction Oval, whilst he remarked how vital it was that the club embraced the notion of setting up summer training facilities at Casey, noting that we were ranked 16th (and last) in Auskick numbers, reflecting the small numbers of youngsters attracted to the club. Initiatives such as this in huge growth corridoors such as Cranbourne would, he claimed, have a flow on effect on membership in future years. Only time will tell if the Board has made the correct decision in appointing him, but if first impressions and confidence are anything to go by then we have the makings of a great coach.
  3. As an 18 -26 year old White was doing all this and more .The centre circle rule effectively ended his career and made him the ( ineffective ) ruckman he is today .
  4. I think you misunderstood the nature of the complaint , which was to query why non in-breds were allowed to mix with the locals , all of whom were from the same brother and sister .
  5. Bartram - much needed desperation Bell - aggressive but loose Bruce - an important contribution Carroll - some admirable aggression Davey - thrilling but limited Dunn - some deft possessions Garland - little to commend Green - just a game C. Johnson - was barely noticed P. Johnson - a major contributor Jones - not as influential McDonald - bland but effective McLean - finally some form Miller - continued good form Morton - a major performance Neitz - time to go Rivers - a welcome return Robertson - stymied in pocket Sylvia - a petulant schoolgirl Wheatley - wonderful first half White - just plodded along Wonaeamirri - an x factor
  6. What if the players agreed to pool their pay for this week's match and surreptitiously place an enormous bet at the exorbitant odds being offered on the Dees to win the game . Not only would there subsequently be an extra incentive to win , they could also make a serious dent in the club's profit / loss statement . Yes , I know this is completely illegal , but there are ways and means - just ask Carlton .
  7. The sad part of our ruck dilemmas IMO is that Jamar is easily the most effective TAP ruckman we have , but also the most ineffective in all other areas of the caper .
  8. Terrific stuff Jack. Have you tried to get it published in the mainstream print media ?
  9. I've been watching Melbourne for over 40 years , and I find it hard to disagree with the last comment about Weetra .
  10. Perhaps we could put next week's game against Geelong up for sale to the highest bidder too - perhaps something good can come from the round that in future years we will come to know as the 'matchus horribilus '!
  11. Bartram , Carroll , Holland Bell , Rivers, Petterd Moloney , McLean, Buckley, Green , Miller, Morton Newton, Robertson, Bruce Johnson, McDonald, Jones White, Bate, Dunn ,Sylvia IN- Holland , Rivers , Bate , Moloney ,Newton ,Petterd OUT - Davey ( injured ) Neitz , Garland , Weetra , Bode, Wheatley
  12. Bartram - needs more time Bell - was completely dominated Bode - not a footballer Bruce - stuck to task Buckley - a shining example Carroll - surprisingly polished game Davey - little before injury Dunn - a major disappointment Garland - wasted draft choice Green - needs a Melways Johnson - best big man Jones - never stops giving McDonald - didn't stop trying McLean - little to praise Miller - an improved game Morton - reason for optimism Neitz - no longer excused Robertson -displays little desire Sylvia - most overrated player Weetra - little to enthuse Wheatley - poor decision making White - better this week
  13. 120 , but you'll have to place an order as I don't keep them in stock .It's a 5 - 7 day turn around.
  14. As I've done in the last 2 years I'm offering an AFL endorsed , framed ,2008 Demons' team photo for $ 39 ( recommended retail - $ 65 ) I have stores in Centre Rd. Bentleigh ,Glenferrie Rd. Malvern , and Fountain Gate Shopping Centre . Please send me a personal message and I'll organize one to be made up for you to pick up. (If any of the administrators object to this offer appearing here, please feel free to delete )
  15. Yes , Walker would certainly be the ideal man for the job . As issarab suggests , Walker possesses the ideal mix of business clout , contacts , experience , success and arrogance to take on the toughest role in AFL today ; Stynes , whilst obviously a sentimental club favourite has none of these qualities , as belzebub alludes to . The fact that Walker is an ardent Melbourne supporter seals the decision .
  16. Bruce ?
  17. Any of the resting ruckmen , who would completely obliterate any of our key defenders otherwise. BTW , I would rely on him to kick goals well before Newton , Robertson and Neitz .
  18. Holland is on our list and should be picked on merit , not just because a young guy is or is not ready to play seniors . He was our best player for Sandy on the weekend and therefore deserves to be played , end of discussion .
  19. Ok I may have been a little rough with Petterd , but Weetra and Garland showed little today or in the pre season games to suggest they are worth persevering with at this stage .
  20. Bartam , Carroll , Holland Bell , Rivers , Wheatley Moloney , McLean , Sylvia Green , Newton , Davey Dunn , Neitz , Bruce Johnson , Jones, McDonald Robertson (one last chance ) , Morton , White( one last chance ) , Buckley Out : Weetra , Garland , Petterd ,Miller ,Yze In : Bartram , Holland , Rivers , Sylvia , Dunn
  21. Bell - was hardly sighted Bruce - played with discomfort Buckley - seemed completely overawed Carroll - played under duress Davey - career worst performance Garland - a year away Green - often found floundering Johnson - a commendable effort Jones - team's bravest performer McDonald - age has wearied McLean - never stopped trying Miller - has learnt nothing Moloney - some valuable involvement Morton - oh so raw Neitz - tried to inspire Newton - one trick pony Petterd - was rarely sighted Robertson - fat and disinterested Weetra - slow and unsure Wheatley - needed the run White - needn't have played Yze - was probably playing
  22. Actually one of my stores is in Fountain Gate Shopping Centre , Narre Warren , which is only 10 minutes from 'stinkhole ' Cranbourne , and believe it or not many of my customers actually admit to supporting The Dees , including the mother of Nathan Jones .
  23. Why don't you actually stick to the topic "demon 3165 "? My original comments about pre game attitude and approach are logical and relevent , unlike your ridiculously vague and pointless asides where you wax lyrically about Foxtel and farm animals whilst ' playing the man rather than chasing the ball '
  24. Quite obviously it's not the simple 'answer to our problems ' and quite obviously you've never played any decent level of competitive sport because if you had you would understand the concepts of application and attitude and how they are interwoven directly with match performance.
  25. I watched with interest how our onballers and ruckmen prepared themselves prior to the game yesterday, then noted how much more professionally their Roos' opponents handled the same exercises . Whilst the opposition performed their manouvers with finesse , aggression , and speed , ours were lethargic , carefree , careless , and moving at a casual pace . This attitude in pre-match work has been prevalent for years now and reflects badly on not just the players but also the coaches who allow such ambivalence to creep in to our players' demeanors . The old expression - 'you play as you train' , is as relevant now as ever , and in Melbourne's case , even moreso .
