How does one "cancel" a membership ?

I don't agree. Richmond conceded 14 goals to Carlton, which was poor. I'll be disappointed if we concede any more than 10. I also expect us to kick over 100 points. Dees by a minimum of 40 points.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised

Special ? Hogan is special. McCartin might be solid, or even very good, I don't see "special". -

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Gator replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
When people reference Petracca's "attitude" I believe it was more maturity than any arrogance. And supposedly he made great gains in this regard in his final year of the TAC, during which time he played a lot more in the midfield. He may not have done well in the psyche test, but from all reports he's loved by his teammates and probably continued to mature. We have some potential superstars on our list. The type of talent that plays in premierships. I've seen enough to be confident it's not a false dawn. -
Salem doesn't have speed. I'd like a gut-running speedster who delivers well. Kelly would be perfect.
-
Isaac Smith, Josh Kelly, or dare I say it, even the gut-running Rodent, is the type of player that would round out our midfield.

Surprised to read Mitch Hannan is 189cm. How many blokes can snap goals like he can at that height. At 23 with real X-factor and great foot skills he could be a Hunt-like recruiting decision. I like what he brings to the team and think he can cement a spot in the 22.

I like it. We went from the Fuschias to the Demons and #raisehell follows the sentiments behind that change.

He left in January 2012 and had no part in recruiting Hogan. Todd Viney can lay claim to Hogan. And me, of course. *Hanged*

I completely understand the angst re Harmes. His turnovers by foot are infuriating. That said, I do like his size, speed and aggression, although he can drop off in that regard. Changes are going to be Tyson and Kent I would have thought.

Well there is. The AFL gave the MFC a one off payment of $1.4 to help restructure the football department. They didn't "pay Roos salary for 3 years".

I don't think it's fair on the true wingers from those days to be compared to the mids from those days or the mids from today. Their possession numbers won't be (aren't) as high and they'll be marked down when they shouldn't. Mids spent most of their time following the ball all over the ground and when they didn't they rested forward and kicked tonnes of goals. You can please yourself, of course, but when I judge today's mids I don't include Flower in those comparisons, because in my view it's not fair on him. He is though, in my view, the greatest wingman whoever lived.

I haven't just joined.

Greg Wells imo is the best mid we've had since Barassi and better than Todd Viney, etc. And as I mentioned earlier, I don't consider Flower a mid in the true sense of the word, as wingers weren't really mids in those days.

I'm going to make a massive call - Clayton Oliver will be our best midfielder since Ron Barassi (note Flower was a wingman in a very different era, so he's not included in my deliberations). When you work through it it's actually not such a big call, it's a logical call to anyone who's seen him play and is familiar with our lack of stars over the last 50 years. He's unquestionably Jason Taylor's best pick. To be pick 4 when you fail to make your U18 state team in the year you're drafted is incredible intuition and judgement by those that recruited you. The deal done to orchestrate two picks in the top 10 and make certain of the selection was just as brilliant, as it was the first time a deal of that nature had been done. We set the standard for other clubs to follow under the new points system. I'd say Hunt was his next stroke of genius in a long line of really solid or great decisions. And while there was a time I wanted to hunt Prendergast down he's done what virtually no other recruiter before him had, he recruited Gawn, who is a star of the game and should end his career as one of this club's greats.

This week he was taken off the long-term injury list. It sounds like he's back training and no longer considered injured.
-
Unlike Red, I don't want him spending too much time in midfield rotations because he's not a great distributor under extreme heat. He fumbles and turns it over. I don't mind him in a high half-forward role where he can help keep the ball in our forward half and allow our zone defence to push up higher and help facilitate repeat entries. Structurally, his role is important to the game plan. He lacks a bit of class, so I don't care if it's Neal-Bullen or someone else, but right now it's his position to lose.

I read before round one that Goody was making "rookie mistakes"; that he'd treated Watts poorly by publicly shaming him; that Spencer had to play and Weideman shouldn't (was never going to happen as Goody isn't stupid); how could Hannan be selected on the back of no JLT; how could Spencer not be selected as he played every JLT; that making Viney co-captain was a mistake (I don't like co-captains, but have an open mind as Goodwin is trying to bridge the gap to the younger players); and his "captain's call" on the captaincy was another error, There are probably more. I reckon we've got a gun young coach on our hands with a brilliant footy mind, who knows how to relate to players, knows how to remain calm, knows what wins games of footy, has his team playing "fearless" footy (another term that was disputed as being invented by a journalist - more rubbish); and, like Mark Taylor, he just might have the knack of pulling the right reign at the right moment on matchups/selections. I haven't read too many mea culpas considering the carry on by some. Not that I thought I would.

THE DROUGHT IS OVER by George on the Outer - POST MATCH DISCUSSION
Gator replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why do you think anyone else is invested in your emotions ? You can please yourself, but don't ask anyone else "should I be". That's your choice. -
I doubt most on here have seen enough of him to have an informed opinion.
-
He dropped two that I remember, Gawn dropped one, Hunt dropped one. There may have been more. Infuriating.

THE DROUGHT IS OVER by George on the Outer - POST MATCH DISCUSSION
Gator replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the postman must have spent considerable time at the Stretch household. -
People have a propensity to get nose bleeds at high altitude. In others words, he'd get a nose bleed for being taken so high.

"one talent spotter suggested Oliver “would get nose bleeds” if he went as high as the first round of the draft"
