Poll: Who do you want with our first two picks?
Watts the matter replied to furious d's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just watched the replay of Vic Country vs WA and I don't even know anymore. Was thinking Young before watching the game but have gone a bit cold on him. Robertson impressed me the most, loved his body positioning and attack on the ball. However, he had a few shocking kicks and he is probably the type we don't need now but would be interested depending on who we take at 3 and who remains. Young was hit and miss with his kicking and got too many handballs out the back. He didn't really provide any genuine run, just cruised along with the ball. Serong wasn't involved all that much, hard to form a solid opinion on that game. Flanders reminds me a lot of Petracca with his body movement and kicking. He was quite good but his kicking is loopy. Kemp, probably the pick of the bunch. Spent a lot of time forward and helped bring Vic Country back into the game in the 3rd. Weightman couldn't get near it in the first half. Was very impressive in the 3rd with 3 great tackles inside 50 (2 of them should have been holding the ball and went unrewarded) and a nice snap goal. Also showed great courage to go back with the ball (you can see it on the hightlight video for Flanders) and was perhaps unlucky not to get a front on contact free kick here. So he could have easily had 4 goals in this quarter. Ash just reminds me of Atley, solid game but didn't really take my interest. -
Brodie Kemp (drafted by Carlton)

His track record suggests he is not good with identifying smalls. Hope we take Kemp. -

Where did you hear this about Spargo? That's the first time I've heard that (he has rated other small players like Lewis Taylor in the top 10). I would be horrified if that is true regarding Spargo. -
We have the Hawks future second so no need to back ourselves to have a good year.
-
This is why many people questioned the recruitment of the 'free' Tomlinson. Looks like it is going to cost us Jack Martin now.
-
I wonder how much of it came about after our inability to get back into the first round to draft Zak Butters last year. Our trade with North could have been done at anytime up until and including the draft night. Maybe it was to pressure GWS with pick 3 (which hasn't worked out).

Early picks best available unless it's a line ball. We don't need the next Luke Nolan. -
It really depends on who you listen to regarding this draft. 9 to 15 is every chance of turning into 10 and 18 with bids coming for players. That is a much bigger difference in my eyes.
-
Apparently that report was incorrect and it was Martin and 15 for 9 and a future second. Which is fair enough to knock back.
-
That's what he means. If we give them pick 3 for pick 6, both our picks are sliding to 7 and 9 if Sydney bids on Greene at 5. Well maybe he doesn't but that's the important factor here. We are pushing ourselves back if we deal our pick and give them a pick before a Greene bid comes in. They would need to be offering something amazing to stop us from bidding.
-
How could he possibly know the value/equivalent of 2 future picks?
-
This is an underated factor in dealing pick 3.
-
And what is the average height for an AFL player? There is absolutely no way to debate that he is small and it becomes more relevant when you don't have other elite assets like agility or speed.
-
This site is obsessed with Stephens, I don't think he is a top 10 prospect from what I have read and seen.
-
Very strongly disagree. He was small and had short arms with no standout traits other than a booming kick with a slow ball drop. I met him through mutual friends while he was playing and he thought he was a forward. He lacked the tricks to be a forward in the AFL, no evasive skills and was just used to always being stronger than his opponents. His best game was his first game and that was at half back. That was his only position I think he might have made it.
-
I think any offer for the pick was always going to come late, but it is hard to see anyone being able to offer us something of interest. GWS have an issue in that if they were to give us Pick 6 and a player, they won't actually have enough mid range picks to match a bid of Green without going into deficit.
-
I appear to be in the minority here but Sparrow doesn't excite me, his ball drop just looks so poor and his movement seems robotic, similar to Tapscott (this is based on the limited amount I have seen of him). Seen less of Jordon but I like what he brings to the table.

2019 Player Reviews: #16 Kade Kolodjashnij
Watts the matter replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I really liked him in his first couple of seasons but looked a mile off that in the games he played this year. Lacked the intensity to compete. Still hope he can return to his early form and become a handy half back or wingman which we need but realistically it is unlikely. -
Well he was asked how are they going to cover the loss of Frost. Frost is a key defender. Jetta and Hibberd have no relevance to this. They both also looked like they would be lucky to be playing AFL footy in 2020. They are not going to match up on Ben Brown. I fail to see in this context how that answer makes perfect sense but each to their own if you want to cop that. I can deal with losing Frost but I am not okay with the club banking on Oscar or Lever as our second tall. Our whole recruitment of key defenders has been and continues to be a mess. Also poor form from Terry and Kane not to probe pick 3.
-
Was quite a boring interview and nothing new for anyone that has been following the news closely. Was a bit delusional with his answers to the Frost question claiming Jetta didn't play this season and using him as an example of someone who fills the same position.
-
Makes no sense for Essendon considering all the talk is they get 5 and 9. We would be huge winners in this trade.
-
99.99% sure the system doesn't allow this and forces you to use your next available pick. If that pick has more value (due to the academy discount) you then receive another pick later in the draft for the difference in points.
-
I thought you had to use your next pick?

I think his style is more like Hunt or Frost out of the backline, just runs and then normally is pretty likely to turn it over.
