Our forward line is the worst in the league by a country mile. Dawes has never kicked more than 30 goals in a season, Hogan hasn't played a game yet, Pederson kicked only 14 goals for the year and Watts only kicked 13. We need both midfielders and key forwards cos we are not even close to having an average forward line. I don't know how many people listen to road to the draft but I thought it was interesting that Twomey said that Lever was the bolter and was now in the top 5 with Melbourne very keen on him (you could of sworn that he was reading Demonland)with McCartin possibly slipping to 4 if he doesn't go at 1 and Wright slipping to 6, can't remember who Collingwood were after at pick 5 but I think they were after more pace. I think the experts will be saying that GWS are the big winners if they can grab both McCartin and Wright after losing Boyd. I hope TSFKA is right and we won't need to choose between McCartin and Lever. Lever has to be the riskiest selection of all time, no one has missed 18 months of football and been picked so high.

I think I know the reason behind the love affair for Lever. It's because GNF said that Roos likes him, GNF casts a spell like no other on Demonland. Lever has done his knee, he's not quick, too skinny to play key, never played in the midfield. I really don't see what he's got going for him, would be amazed if we picked him up at 3. Not sure if there is any love out there for Wright he only has 17 votes.
-
Watts can and has been used in the midfield. Gawn as our second ruck, he's generally poor up forward which is why there is merit in drafting Wright who can play both roles. I'd have Gawn ahead of Pederson (dropped 3 out of the last 4 weeks)and Fitzpatrick (played only 4 games). Garland is the interesting one. He had a really poor last half of the year and I really don't see a position for him now that we have brought in Frost, lucky for Garland that we have nothing in the midfield when it comes to depth to replace him. Bail and Michie are honest so they could replace him, Salem and Kennedy-Harris couldn't get a kick at the end of the year and Toumpas, McKenzie and M.Jones simply aren't up to it.

Struggling at Casey the last time I checked.
-
How true. I remember Troy Davis looking great in his highlights video and look where he is now.
-
He didn't have a knee reco though. We picked up Gawn after he done his knee, he then done it again and still has a problem with his knee. He was touted us a top 10 pick before he done his knee.

I can't see us getting Dangefield, Sloane or Steven as they are at the age where they want success immediately. Cameron will get a massive million dollar deal with whoever he goes to. I can see us going for any of Sheil, Treloar, Tomlinson or Smith as they are at the age where they might be willing to wait for a bit of success but we will have to pay massive overs for any of them, similar to a Boyd deal. I can't believe Jones isn't in the top 10, easily the most underrated player in the AFL.

Roos not playing kids is a myth. Kennedy-Harris played round 1. Hogan would of played if fit. Salem played in round 6 after having very little preseason and only playing a couple of games in the VFL. Tyson is only 21. Unlike Sydney we have to play kids because our senior experience is just not that good. So my team would be. B: JETTA, FROST, DUNN HB: GRIMES, MCDONALD, LUMUMBA C: BRAYSHAW, N.JONES, CROSS HF: VINEY, HOGAN, HOWE F: MCCARTIN, DAWES, GARLETT FOLL: JAMAR, VINCE, TYSON IC: WATTS, GAWN, GARLAND SUB: KENT

I think it's about time we went for someone with a bit of mongrel in them too many times we have gone for boy scouts like Trengove, Watts and Toumpas instead of going for hard nosed players like Martin, Wines and Darling and it's got us nowhere so it's McCartin for me, he's tough and what of seen of Wright is that he doesn't really have any mongrel in him even though he is a big unit. Lever has to be too much of a risk at pick 3 after doing his knee, he's does it again then he's stuffed and he's skinny too. We haven't got a great record with skinny kids.
-
I don't think it's harsh at all. I can't believe how many people overrate our players, probably the same people that thought that the Trengove deal was no good. Howe is just an average player with average skills but he can jump and mark. Pick 6 might be a dud but could be the next Wines it's a risk you have to take. No way in hell is Howe worth pick 6 in any draft. It's that good a deal that I don't believe the rumour and someone said pick 5 was offered for Garland years ago I certainly don't believe it.

OK GNF do you have any info on our lack of key forwards? Will we look to draft a key forward or does he think Watts (or somebody else)is the answer? I know Roos said he wants midfielders but that was when Clark was still on the list, has Roos changed his views now that Clark is no longer at the club? I think Watts can play a role simular to Gunston if he could take a [censored] mark. He drops far too many sitters for somebody who was supposed to have vice like hands at under 18 level his other flaws can be sorted out if he gets more confidence in his marking ability.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM FROST

Maybe, I don't really trust Dunn to do it. He could be the answer who knows, we'll just have to wait and see. -

Dawes still will only leave us with 2 key forwards of course we need another tall forward. Again we won't be able to kick enough goals, playing players like Pederson will keep us on the bottom. Where's our backline drive going to come from besides Lumumba? He will need help in that area and it won't be coming from our 4 key talls. -
Sorry I don't understand Stretch was supposed to go in the 20's so if we used pick 23 it would be at best a break even deal. 42 is a win. The Frost deal was a bad deal which I already mentioned and who would we trade a pick in the 30's? There's no one. Watts is worth more than a pick in the 30's, Garland an Howe have done more than Frost. What would you mark it then?

I don't think Talia gives real drive and flair off half back either. -
Pick 3 for Frawley - Massive win. Not a chance of getting a pick that good at the trade table. Stretch for pick 42 - Win. Was nominated at pick 29 so that's a bargain. Garlett for pick 61 - Win. Capable goal kicker when inform. Lumumba for Clark - Win. Lumumba get out on the park unlike Clark, could be a loss if Clark can actually get out on the park. Frost, pick 40 and 53 for pick 23 - Loss. We paid overs for a player that's played a major part of his football at NEAFL level and pick 40 and 53 aren't great picks by any stretch of the imagination. Pick 12 for Trengove and pick 23 falling through - Loss. A pick upgrade was a bargain for this injury prone spud, now we can't even get pick 112 for him. 4 wins out of 6 ain't too bad. I'd give us a C+ Brisbane are the only team that deserve an A. Picking up Beams and Christensen and basically only losing pick 5 and Patfull is a bargain. The rest did so so or did nothing. We have to get an A on draft night, can't afford to stuff that up, we've done it too often.

Yeah great T Mac can't kick, Frost can't get the ball, Lumumba's gonna have to do it all by himself. -

He missed 5 out of the last 7. I'd like to know if it was form or injury that left him out of the side as well. He doesn't get much of the ball only getting over 15 disposals once this year. Honestly do we really need him? Dunn replaced Frawley down back only lowering his colours to Brown and McDonald played full back as well only lowering his colours to Roughhead. We now have 4 key defenders down back and 1 key forward up forward going into RND1, not a really balanced side if you ask me. Maybe they will use either Dunn or Garland up forward. Looking forward to a massive 10 to 15 goal season from one of them. Pick 23 is way over his value, should of used pick 23 to grab a midfielder. -
Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]
WERRIDEE replied to Dr evil's topic in Melbourne Demons
I can't believe RD,GNF and JJH lied to us. I really thought we would have a midfield of Dangerfield, Kennedy and Beams. Who wouldn't want to go to a club that lost their last 10 games and finished second last? Anyone who thinks we will be in a good position to get a quality Free Agent next year are kidding themselves if we have another year like this year. -

Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off
WERRIDEE replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Rubbish Thompson was a gun in his final year at Melbourne. We were on top of the ladder with him in the side as an inside midfielder, once he got injured we fell away dramatically. Trengove has been useless and can't get an inside ball to save himself. -
Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off
WERRIDEE replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Loyal? We have been more than loyal to him, he has not performed. He has been a disastrous draftee right up there with Watts, Toumpas, Gysberts and Cook considering we could have got Martin who is 10 times the player Trengove is. Barry signed a 2 year deal. As loyal as they come never get rid of this bloke, it doesn't matter if he plays in the reserves for the rest of his career keep him. McKenzie could of gone to Adelaide but chose Melbourne LOYAL never let him go. It's about time we traded out our drafting failures before they become like Morton where we could only get pick 88 for him. His loyalty being compared to Flower and McDonald is a joke. Loyalty is when you are that good you can go to any club you like for more success and\or money but choose to stay at the club because you love the club. Flower was famous for it, Lyon, Stynes, Viney, Neitz, McDonald etc all loyal and Jones has the chance to be put in that bracket if he chooses to sign up next year, Trengove is barely in our best 22. -

He played over 250 games and won 2 B&F's. He was a lot better than just OK. I suppose Stynes and Jones are O.K at best. -

They are all quicker than Trengove and apart from Suckling and Malceski all can play inside. -

Let's not put Junior and Trengove in the same sentence. One was a proven great player the other played his last game in the VFL.
