VFL representative team vs SANFL
This starts soon. Can't see if it's broadcast anywhere. I suspect Dees may have a look for a possible ruck support and/or further consideration of Campbell Hustwaite for the mid season draft. Found it! https://www.afl.com.au/news/1100638

Rising Star Nomination for The Duke?
Windsor is already special. He's going to be VERY special. I too, am very excited at what he could become. But I get very nervous when certain comparisons and labels are given to young players in their first year. Nick Watson being called 'The Wizard' EVERY time, for example. It puts unnecessary pressure on him. The Flower comparison has been whispered in media and in forums. I get it, believe me, but we (me included) must pull ourselves up. Watching Robbie play was like seeing Nureyev at a barn dance. He just made the other players on the field look clumsy and cumbersome. As Sinead O'Connor once said to him, "Nothing compares 2 U". Let's watch this kid build his own legacy and just enjoy the ride.

PODCAST: Rd 03 vs Port Adelaide
This. Radio and TV have gone on ad nauseam about how PA should have won, based on all the stats. (I don't recall the same hysteria when Melbourne had 32 more i50's in Maynardgate). We have often bemoaned the losses on Demonland when we win the stats, but not the game. It is both refreshing and intriguing to be on the other side for a change. Can it be explained by finally being more efficient than our opponents, especially with i50's? Do we embrace this as our new and improved model and move forward, or do the naysayers in the media have it right eg we were lucky?

CASEY: Rd 02 vs Footscray
Exactly my thoughts. Result irrelevant. If from this half alone, I can see a future Melbourne KPF and a ruck/forward emerge, I'll be rapt!

PODCAST: Rd 02 vs Hawthorn
Just got around to listening to the podcast. Once again, great listening and a must for all demon fanatics. As usual, I agreed with 90%+ of what was broadcast, which beats any other podcast/program. Yes, you are right, there is a but. I think it was George, when critiquing the Hawthorn game, stated he thought Hawthorn wasted pick 5 on Nick Watson. Wow!!! What an incredibly quick and harsh judgement on the kid. Nick was universally touted by clubs, and draft gurus, as a unique talent. He has played 180 minutes of AFL, not 180 games. We are quite rightly singing the praises of 2024 debutant, Blake Howes on Demonland. The difference being, he is in his 3rd year at a successful club. Watson is playing in a rabble of a team, and arguably a club. Cal Twomey gave him the nickname of The Wizard, which is impossible to live up to at this stage of his career. Unfortunately, this is mentioned EVERY time he goes near the ball. It puts unreal expectations of him. I believe he will be a very, very good player. A 200 game/400 goal career would not surprise. Let's just give him the time all fair judges here would if he was one if ours.

Which AFL Footballer could be Bond 007?
Please don't mention the M word in any post. I just get very, VERY angry 😠 P.S. The 2006 quote was a reminder for me not to swear at seeing it's name 😉

GAMEDAY: Rd 02 vs Hawthorn
Bailey has been FANTASTIC his whole career. His consistency and impact can be taken for granted at times. The position he plays with his physique is unique in AFL. His career stats (minus his 1 year at half back) compare favourably with Charlie Curnow for example. Even las week, his goal assist handball (with his right hand) to Trac was sensational. He doesn't have to kick 6 to have impact. Love the bloke!

.....and with good reason. He has freakish skills that make him so important to our side. Yes, he probably tries too often for MOTY, but he bounces up quicker than anyone else I have seen, so remains a ground ball threat in these contests. He is an amazing talent, still years away from his peak. Happy for him to just do his thing, except suspensions!

Geelong Sets Sights on Oliver
If you are able to watch AFL 360, there was an excellent discussion about Clarrygate tonight. Sensible, balanced, honest and even enlightening. It involved Lewis, Riewoltd & Whately (Robbo was in attendance).

Concussion and where to next?
A lot of truth in what you say, but I remain angry at the arrogance of the AFL. Gus certainly had great support from the club medico's, but my understanding is that most was from outside the club and very specialised. Remember that the Maynard assault occurred in September. All indicators were that Gus was right to go. It wasn't until 6 months later the true gravity of his condition was realised. That he had the entire off season to determine his state of health was the only blessing in this saga. The thought of it happening in season and being missed is frightening. Of course, that component is not the fault of the AFL. What frustrates me is the 'we know better' attitude. Remembering the AFL drastically lowered the soft cap and TPP in covid to reduce costs. Players now get a lot more $ than they did pre covid, but the clubs ability to pay support staff (including medical) remains at those lower figures. This wouldn't be the case if they were serious about player welfare. Treat everyone who plays this game with a duty of care and make it 21 days for everyone. As supporters we can live with a player missing an extra week, even if it isn't really necessary. I'd much rather that than seeing another Brayshaw situation.
