  1. To think there was a season-long debate on here about Viney, and whether he was worth "bidding" pick 3 at the time. I wouldn't swap him for ANY of the other kids from his draft. An absolute ripper.
  2. I doubt it. Roos put him there last week because we literally didn't have a target down there. It worked reasonably well against GWS and proved to be a master stroke today (having Dawes there helped too obviously)...
  3. Our first win against Carlton since The Kreuzer Cup, 2007. Would love to know the average losing margin in that time too. They're bad, but we really should enjoy this.
  4. I think you'd have to call Nathan Jones elite now. Not quite at the Ablett, Pendlebury, Jobe Watson level, but if you widen the field of elite midfielders a bit he's there.
  5. 6 - Frawley: masterstroke from Roos to switch him forward. 5 - Jones: completely pantsed Murphy. Bullet-like kicks. Is he officially 'elite'? Pretty close. 4 - Grimes: was starting to have doubts. Immense today. 3 - Viney: absolute gun. Extra points for his smart-alec bum tap to Warnock after Bail goal. 2 - Bail: speaking of that guy, he really proved a few wrong today (including me) 1 - McDonald (really good defensively as always and minimised errors by foot) Apologies, Spencer, Cross (one of the recruits of the year), Dawes (worth every cent!) Matt Jones, and a few others.
  6. He's not too bad a kick for a spud actually. He's miles better at it then Terlich anyway. I'd have Alistair Nicholson kick out over Terlich.
  7. His foot skills are letting him down a bit. But can't question his work rate. The chase down tackle early on when the rest of his teammates were asleep drew applause from me!
  8. Still done some nice things - the goal assist to Nathan Jones was Pendlebury-like. Gets caught HTB a bit too often though.
  9. Frawley to the forward line has been a masterstroke so far, and Dawes despite not having a HUGE influence on the stats sheet is showing his worth already. Just needs to stay fit.
  10. 2 Terlich errors cost us a goal. Useless player.
  11. I meant more in terms of pot luck. Every draft has stars and turkeys in the top end. For every Chris Judd, there's a Cale Morton. For every Lance Franklin, there's a Lachie Hansen. For every Nic Naitanui, there's a John Meeson.
  12. He's still living off his glory days of 2010 a bit, but make no mistake, if (when) he goes he'll be a huge loss. 25 year old, powerful and athletic full backs don't grow on trees, hence 8+ clubs are chasing his signature. We'll be well compensated if he does leave. If we get pick 1 and 2 we will trade pick 2 out, and if it's picks 1, 2 and 3 we'll trade 2 and 3 out. I'm pretty confident of that. I don't think we can afford to take all of them to the draft, in case we "luck out" with a bad draft (Scully, Trengove, Lachie Hansen, Gumbleton etc).
  13. The Wines argument has merit, granted. The Kelly stuff is just moaning for the sake of moaning.
  14. Are some people really moaning about Josh Kelly? The Wines/Toumpas stuff is tiresome enough. Tyson has been great so far and Salem will get his chance later in the year. Josh Kelly looks great (as a #2 pick should, mind you) and I'm sure GWS are happy with their side of the bargain. Shock horror. Early days but looks like a classic win/win trade, and the least of our worries...
  15. I really like the delisted FA rule - seeing the impact Cross has had here already as well as Chapman at Essendon. These types would have been on the scrapheap 5 years ago but one would expect more and more discarded veterans will get to finish their career on their own terms.
  16. You're too kind to some of the posters on here. I have no doubt some would prefer to see Toumpas fail, sacrificing the good of the club just so they can be right and say "I told you so." Very, very stiff to be dropped this week. Can only assume Roos is tempering his expectations of a kid in just his second year.
  17. Will trust Roos' judgements here - but Bail keeping his spot ahead of Toumpas is a little baffling to the naked eye.
  18. I actually remember reading that write-up on Sylvia at the time. Nearly 11 years ago... wow! He has actually been on of the best players from that draft too, it should be said.
  19. More hyperbole, you really think Wines will have surpassed Gary Ablett, Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Selwood himself, Fyfe, Griffen in 'a couple of years'?
  20. I've spoken about Toumpas enough in other threads, I think he's making baby steps but still progressing fairly well. But honestly reading some of the comments here, you'd think Ollie Wines was a combination of Gary Ablett Jnr, Leigh Matthews and Haydn Bunton. I see one guy's claims he's "bordering on AA". Complete hyperbole, we've played 2 rounds! I guess using this logic, Jack Watts was "bordering on AA" as recently as yesterday morning. There's no doubt Wines is a gun and I'd give him at least a 60% chance of topping Toumpas' career, but for whatever reason our own fans are blowing his efforts to date way out of whack and at the same time will completely undersell Toump to suit their argument. I'd bet my bottom dollar these same people probably voted for Toumpas on the eve of the draft and would probably have started a thread on Wines' dodgy kicking technique by now if he played for us.
  21. I remember one instance in the third quarter where bloody Pederson blatantly couldn't be bothered laying a shephard for Terlich (I think it was) on the members wing. Couldn't believe how bad it looked and was disappointed that the commentators didn't pick up on it.

  23. I'm not sure this is the best way to analyse it. Kyle Cheney gets a game at Hawthorn. Bennell at West Coast. Petterd at Richmond. All 3 were deemed "not up to AFL standard" by the Melbourne list managers, and I presume most supporters, once upon a time. I think the following players from today's game would not be picked up by any other club if they went into the Draft: Spencer, Pederson, Bail, Byrnes, M. Jones. A little depressing.
  24. It was refreshing to see Roos' comments actually. He was starting to fall into the trap of repeating old cliches used by Neeld and Bailey during the week just gone. Let's not forget too, that in 10 years in Sydney his biggest losing margin was 73 points. He's already eclipsed that in his 2nd game here. This team really is garbage.
  25. Mass changes never work. In. Gawn, Blease, Viney Out. Fitzpatrick, Bail, M. Jones I'd be surprised if Roos made 3 changes, more likely 2.
