  1. Ha? What!? I can honestly tell you that I had no idea that you three intellectual giants had stumped me! Clearly I was confused that someone who was on one hand complaining about forced education on social issues, then reveals he doesn't actually care at all. Secondary in my confusion, when faced with such breathtaking powers of logic and persuasion, was the idea that people are sick of social and political issues... except for the ones they happen to agree with, such as ANZAC day. Did you seriously stop by to tell me to stop participating in a conversation that stopped 50 minutes ago..? You're basically the cowardly kid that hangs around the back of the fight and yells out 'Yeah!' when it's all over. OK... I'm sorry wrecker, you're right, you win - you're just too sharp for me.
  2. So... why do you care..?
  3. How is putting up a sign saying 'YES' on a Wednesday afternoon forcing education on you??
  4. So it's ok for the causes you agree with but not others? And even the polling you quote says they're putting forward a view supported by the majority... It's not a 'minority issue' when the majority support it.
  5. 100% literal. We celebrate, acknowledge and remember that sacrifice on ANZAC day. The AFL attempts to make a contribution to education and acknowledgment of that sacrifice on that day.
  6. Advance Australia Fair is played at the start of every final and Grand Final.
  7. Indigenous Round actually exposes a huge number of people to indigenous culture (Australian culture) that they otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to see. If you were a New Zealander, you'd see it every time a National team takes the field and does the Hakka. Most people don't get to see a Welcome to Country, or see Aboriginal Art, songs and Dance. They don't get to see totems or hear stories such as that of Bunjil a few years back at the G. You have magnificent artists, some who are current and past players, who are able to share their artwork on jumpers and shoes. I fail to see what's so shocking and offensive about this?? It's Australia's culture and we very rarely get to see it. The AFL chooses to celebrate and promote it. There's no attack, there's no agenda whereby you're going to be any worse off afterwards for having been exposed to aboriginal dance, music and art. That Nicky Winmar photo was taken in 1993. Players have since used racial taunts on the field, spectators have since been reprimanded for racist abuse in the crowd. People still throw bananas at players and Lamumba's nickname at Collingwood was Chimp. It must be an ongoing sustained effort to stamp out discrimination or else the message is quickly forgotten.
  8. Maybe they take a stand because they don't want people hurling racist insults over the fence, sexist abuse of players and officials, homophobic abuse of players and umpires, and religious abuse of players and fans. Maybe they see that as creating an environment that fans would not be overly keen to attend. Maybe by saying those attitudes aren't welcome in the league they believe they are making it more welcoming and harmonious for all races, religions, sexualities and genders to enjoy together... I don't miss hearing the racism, sexism, homophobia and bigotry that was being yelled out in crowds when I grew up. The game is better without it.
  9. Fortunately, this issue is a no-brainer!
  10. There are sooooooo many things worse than the politicisation of sports.
  11. i don't have the Demonland votes, but the stat were: vs StKilda KICKS . MARKS . HANDBALLS . TACKLES. HITOUTS . 9 . 4 . 4 4 49 Smashed Hickey in the hitouts and impact around the ground. Received 5 Votes in the AFL Coaches Award. vs CARLTON: Kicked a goal, but failed to get going. Probably beaten by Kreuzer, but neither had a big impact on the game. KICKS . MARKS . HANDBALLS . TACKLES. HITOUTS . 6 4 9 4 28 .
  12. Had been in incredible form since halfway through 2015, however that came to a sudden halt with a very serious hamstring injury. He was brought straight back in to the senior team upon return, which may have been an error as he was lacking in match fitness, form and ultimately confidence. His frustrations later in the year exacerbated his poor form and he was not able to recover from that. It's perhaps important to remember that though he's been on the list for 8 years, he's still quite inexperienced as far as 'games played' is concerned. He was getting to the right spots, the ball was simply not sticking like it used to. Hopefully this preseason can be a bit of a reset for Maxy. Pressure and expectation got the better of him in the second half of the year. He is still capable of being one of the most dominant players in the league; form, fitness and attitude allowing.
  13. Was brought back into the team far too quickly throughout 2016 and, coupled with his concussions during 2017, people started to forget just how good this kid was. He reminded many upon his return, which surpassed even the most optimistic predictions and his bravery and persistence should be applauded. A fit Brayshaw is like a star new player signing on to the club - very excited to see his 2018.
  14. Max had a poor season after he came back from injury, but we still won more games with him than without him. When fit and in form he is the best ruckman in the league, significantly better than Jacobs.
  15. Try viewing this thread the same way you'd view a tv show about aliens. There are parts you'd say 'That'd be awesome!' There are parts where you'd say 'That's absurd!' In your heart of hearts, you probably know that everything you're see is complete fabrication and misunderstanding, but, depending on how bored you are, there are parts you choose to believe.
  16. He questions the asking price of two first rounders, as most of us do.
  17. He was a Demonland special in his draft year- his highlight package litvthis place up. I very much doubt the gc would want to part with him.
  18. Was happy to give him the benefit of the doubt when he joined the Dees and convinced myself that people's criticisms of him were based more upon misconception, rather than who he actually was as a person or player. I was wrong and screwed us.
  19. Of course you can trade a contracted player! Do you really not see the difference??? Anyway, I'll bow out now. I've said my piece and the threads not about me. All the best to Garland, great servant of the club and played his best football when we were at our worst. I have a lot of respect for him. Maybe he'll be there 2018, maybe he won't.
  20. Does that account for the difference between a player who plays 22 AFL matches as apposed to someone like Kennedy who plays 22 VFL matches?? Maybe that have revamped the match payment system, but that seems unusual.
  21. Yeah... forced retirement... that's not honouring a contract. Club offered him 3. The club gives him 3.
  22. So no retirement??
