To both - sure, and I realise that my opinion is unpopular given who GWS beat, but they have guns in their side that should have been ours but for AFL gifts. And I don't think for a moment that things will return to normal after success. What will happen is that the spike of interest will drop off as they do too, and then they will be looked after again. Sydney isn't allowed to fail for that reason too (though I'm old enough to call them South, so I have no issue with that team being helped). Suns to Tassie - a bit off topic, but yes. I think the AFL now knows it put a team into a graveyard and no matter what they throw at them it will always be a failure. Hmmm The Hobart 'It's not sunny, but at least we can play football'?

List changes who do we cut, trade or go after.

Have some stories about Pike. A headcase. We lost nothing getting rid of him -
Anyone that thinks that GWS winning is good for football is insane. They have been gifted so much at our (and other) teams expense, and will continue to do so for years. Love or hate Collingwood at least they are a real team with real history, unlike those Mc Donalds things planted in the middle of rugby land. As much as I know that another Richmond flag will bring out the munters that follow that team in droves, I hope the Tigers smash the living crap out of them and headfuck them for the next 50 years

Was great when on, was colder than cold when he wasn't, but all told was a good pickup for us in bad times. Thanks Jeff

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
Uncle Fester replied to olisik's topic in Melbourne Demons
The AFL is corrupt and makes up rules on the fly? NO! Tell me it isn't so -
Please go back to whatever team you really support.

Chief sports writer at the Hun, if the current one is anything to go by

Not going to be too harsh on the umps. Frost threw it in the last seconds. If they were paying attention we lose. Oh well. Sucks to be Scullthorn

$650K? Will be lucky not to get shown the door. Runs under it, fumbles, spoils his own. And that 5 meter kick to Jones.... FMD. What a way to kill a teams momentum.

65 pints! That's heroic! I usually pass out after 15.

Has future coach written all over him. If he lead, I'd follow.

Hmmm. I like this whiner less and less each day. I'm in the camp of 'leave the effin game alone', but his words are just stupid. I really hope he was taken out of context. [censored] teams will get smashed - um yeah. That is what happens to [censored] teams. Always has, always will. But it will make it easier to make a comeback - um yeah. Not even sure what to say after point A. Just go away. Get sacked. [censored] off. You are that annoying kid at school that was always dobbing the rest of us in for having a smoke or copping a feel behind the shelter sheds.

Interesting times ahead. I'm not going to try and re-write history and say that Jesse wasn't a great gun for us, but I do think that our mids looked for Jesse when there were better options about. We did seem to play a little more unpredictable when he wasn't in the team, to the detriment of whoever we were playing. So where does that leave Weed? One swallow does not a summer make, but he has the tools to be a very good player. Good hands, good kick, and, like his grandfather, loves the tough stuff. And he is still a kid. I think that in 4 years time he will be a handful for even the best defenders. But of course nothing is set in stone, but I do like what I see from him so far.

Training - 2nd February, 2019 @ Maroochydore
Uncle Fester replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't care what those pinheads are thinking. It's a love song FFS. Why would you pick that as a theme? Like any more of them need to breed. It's as bad as 'You'll never walk alone'. Much rather be part of 90K rocking as we kick a goal than go through that. That was as bad as the bugler (albeit MH was a little more talented and pulled a better class of chick until his final days) Edit - just thought of something funny. If we ever meet them at the G in a final we should sing to them 'We'll put you back under tarps' Jack Viney was running You were there Two worlds collided And we put you right back under those tarps. I'll be here all week. Try the veal, and don't forget to tip your waitress -
Quoted because that needs more love

Yes. That is exactly what I said - that he read Demonland and changed his ways. Good grief! He was a relatively (and I say that because he had an apprenticeship under Roos) inexperienced coach with a lot of interesting ideas. But as innovative as they were they were often unpicked by more experienced coaches, and there were times we looked lost out there, as an also inexperienced team - think Clarkson killing him after a flying start last year, or how our third quarters seemed to have us all at sea. But he adapted. He realised Rome wasn't built in a day. But that is today. Not 2017. I think he and the players learnt a lot in 2018 too. He went back to basics and shelved the gotcha! tricks. Him and the side were not ready for that stuff. 2020 and beyond, maybe, with a battle hardened bunch of players and assistants, and Goody knowing when to try these things and when not to. I give him huge credit for what he is doing, and even more credit for backing off the card tricks and getting back to basics with a team that will win because they are harder, tougher and more determined to win it than the other team. Not from some Hail Mary pass invented at 3q time. I think we are on the same page, and without looking I don't think I was that bad, but I did have my doubts that he was more show than substance in the early days. Liked his style. Liked how he got on with the boys. Liked his moxie. Just didn't like the idea that he thought he could out fox foxes with a team that didn't even know what the real deal was. Love that he has let that go and has them playing good, tough, hard running football. I'd sign him up for another 3 years in a red and blue heartbeat.

He made some mistakes in the early days. Tried to be too smart and re-invent the game. But he learnt and gave us a simpler style. We became a better team because of it. I think I and others were right to doubt (after all we saw Neeld try and do the same thing), but now I have faith. Good list, good coach, good admin. Happy to eat humble pie, but not backing away from anything I said at the time.

Tomas Bugg Announces Retirement
Uncle Fester replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
I quite liked him. Didn't kick straight enough at crucial moments, and well... there was that brain fart, but I think he was serviceable and a little unlucky to be cut from our list.
