Agree, unfortunately with covid & lockdowns December mcg celebrations just seemed to carry on on too long & sportsman’s nights players were doing.. ultimately the review will highlight & there’s a real concern on our fitness was it their program by Griffiths or player behaviour?
-
Listening to Trac on 360 seemed as though the players may have taken their season for granted??
-
Cripps said loyalty is important & stayed at Carlton and loves playing with his mates vs Jackson motivation???
-
Pies showed throughout the season inc the prelim how poor our fitness was and the fade-outs. Gawn said that it felt they didn’t have a break but yet the Cats only played 1 less game than us in 21. Wonder what the club review will highlight & if It will point to Griffiths??
-
The pies highlighted how poor our fitness was this season with so many second half fade-outs! Is Griffiths to blame who took over from Burgess???
-
Question is the Cats played one less game than us yet look a lot fresher, sure mentally was tough but what did our fitness team do to prepare the team. Burgess departed but I’m sure he would have assist Griffiths in the program for 22
-
Perhaps Goody needs to see how you can score when you don’t just bomb it to the pockets, and get a fwd who can take a contested mark instead of another ruckman
-
Perhaps unsuccessful clubs like ours sometimes can’t handle success eg the May issue
-
As much as I don’t like Scott & Geelong their sustained success since 07 is great & whilst no flags since 2011 and multiple finals flops it’s build on culture & good drafting and free agency. The biggest challenge for clubs who have been unsuccessful for long periods is handling success and hope our club bounces back & stays in this window of opportunity and not fall off the cliff!
-
Understand getting a back up ruckman but our fwd50 issues want be solved by Grundy & Tmac foot issues have flared up again.
-
Talk from players is there was a 10% drop off in fitness standards since Burgess left.... If true Griffiths needs to depart!
-
Talk is from players that since Burgess left there was a 10% drop off in fitness standards. If true this would explain the 7 fadeouts in the second half & should be held responsible for the failed season!
-
Selwyn worked under Burgess in 21, so I assuming he would have continued with his fitness program, but lets hope the club reviews this and if he points to him he should go.
-
Selwyn Griffiths worked under Burgess before taking over so would think he continued his programme/strategy, all 7 inc 2x finals losses were the same, lead at 1/2 time by 20+ and got over run and would great to get feedback as to why, though don't hold your breath as clubs would never disclose this depth of detail.
-
Since 10-0 we have lost 7 games inc 2 x Finals after leading at 1/2 time and have faded out in the second half badly, either Burgess leaving & Griffiths who worked under him threw out his programme or the players just decided can climb the mountain again. Goodwin faith in his players and not making any changes after the swans loss and taking in injured players clearer backfired and seeing some of the talent in Casey highlighted we need some fresh injury free players to change it up e.g. Chandler, Dustan, Bedford, Van Rooyen , whilst couldn't play all of them but at least 2 changes were needed & some new spark in the Fwd line. The missed opportunities going forward and missed kicks to nothing or to a contest having free players available was a joke & summed up our finals! Lets hope this group don't fizzle away and just hang around finals
-
not sure how you can play all 3 Gawn, Grundy & Jackson if he stays.
-
We could finish as high as 2nd pending % either host the swans or at the scg, lose & finish 6th then play the tigers.. Those loses may come back to haunt them!
-
Positive we found a way to win after losing the lead. Concern is our method going into FW50 hasn't changed with continued bombing and not lowering their eyes!
-
Perhaps its the weight of the premiership medals?? Not abnormal but just maybe not able to push that extra to climb the mountain again??
-
Part of the issue with continued high bombs & not lowering their eyes
-
Lynch Or Cameron wouldn't have made the difference, we continue to bomb it long & high & creating intercept marks for their defence, need to lower their eyes as many free players ignored.
-
Numbers don't lie...... 8 v18 fw50 tackles BB, Spargo, Pickett 1 tackle between them! Lever, Rivers, Sparrow zero tackles! Have some serious fwd half pressure and keeping the ball in and the ability to back it up weekly from the Freo & Lions game, rated 17th for pressure acts. Not sure they will be able to fix this come finals time & may even drop out of top 4!

Melbourne & Mark Neeld: It Wasn’t All Bad

Ask the players & members/supporters watching us lose by 80,100,148 points with 2 wins & % of 50 how great it was!
