  1. Exactly. There are several clubs screaming for a decent big forward. You can have all the other building blocks in place but still struggle without a big target. We should go for 1 mid, 1 forward. Best of both worlds. We can get more mids next year and the year after.
  2. That's how i feel. There's just something wrong about it and as Melbourne fans we should all know the damage a move like this can make. It's intangible but insidious.
  3. My problem with trading Trengove is he represents the the essence of the damaged player due to the cancerous MFC culture over the past few years. Talented kid, showed promise and then given the captaincy during a period that wouldn't have been hard for a battle-hardened verteren. I like a good story and I want so bad for JT to turn out to be champion for us. I want us to stick by him. I also don't see the point in the trade unless it gets us gun player. Beams would be the kind of player I mean. Roos says we don't want a pack of kids coming in. Why swap JT for a kid?
  4. I'm in favour of Wright over McCartin. It just makes more sense when you look at the overall balance of the forward line. Hoges as a power forward and Wright as forward ruck like Tippett/Daniher/Clark etc... Sounds dangerous to me.
  5. I think when you only have one first round pick that's in the teens you really don't want to take a risk with it. I'd be surprised if he wasn't there at our 2nd round pick.
  6. Mahoney said today that we'll probably go to the draft with 2,3 and 23. I'm hoping 23 is reserved for this guy.
  7. Not out of the question that GWS need to drop numbers from their list and let him walk in the PSD. That'd be nice.
  8. Ridiculously good trade for such a talented player. I wish every player we targeted had a shocker the year we go after them. Drops their price so well.
  9. Dreaming to get Garlett for Blease. Blease + 4th rounder maybe... That'd be a good deal i reckon. Dunno what that leaves us to get frost with... Maybe the Clark-Lumumba-Varcoe deal also gets us Geelong's 4th round pick? 4th rounder for Frost. 4th rounder + a player for Garlett?
  10. I agree with this fully. I think even Roos must realise that there's a chance here to address nearly all of our deficiencies by going to the draft with 2 & 3. I think everyone would rather a ready-made mid like Shiel instead of drafting an 18yo... but no one really wants to give up a ready made mid so there's not much to be done. Stay strong and hit the draft. Lumumba + Garlett is an improvement. And next year we can expect Hoges, trengove, viney, tyson, salem, toumpas, kent to all play/improve. So not all doom and gloom by getting players with 2 & 3 that wont play and impact in round 1. Adding experience is a weight of numbers game I reckon. Next year we'll have Jones, Vince, Lumumba, Cross, Dawes, Dunn and probably someone I'm forgetting with a good amount of experience. The balance is slowly getting better.
  11. Wright would seem to make a more balanced forward line with Hoges and Dawes. Dubious though as this player type often takes 3-4 years.
  12. Yea, the problem with the players we're after is that we want Garlett, Lumumba and Frost but on their own their not worth a 2nd round pick. But we don't have a 3rd round pick! quite the conundrum. I'm hoping we get them all and head to the draft with 2,3 and 23. Probably have to give up a few players though... dunno who.
  13. We have issues kicking goals. Garlett kicks them. Very happy with us getting him.
  14. I reckon the biggest problem with our list is a lack of high end talent. Not so much maturity. There's just too many players who will never be all that good. With that in mind I'm big on taking 2 & 3 to the draft. Try and bring in some experience with later picks.
  15. I hope Bulldogs trade for St Kilda's number 1 pick. That would leave us sitting pretty for Pretacca and Brayshaw with 2 & 3. Or we can shift pick 3 in a Tyson-esque deal. Then we can trade for another mature body with pick 22. Or if that doesn't work out, pick Nakia Cockatoo.
  16. That big a gap between them you reckon? I'd have thought we'd be talking about all three pretty evenly if they were all up for grabs.
  17. I reckon it shows that we're going to use pick 2 on the best midfielder in the draft. Pick 3 is what we'll shop around. Stoked on Billy.
  18. Risk is that he was injured all year and basically played one epic game which has seduced us all.
  19. This kid can play. Seems a bit of a risk but if he turns out he's a real line-breaker and goal kicker. I'd use a pick in the 20s on him but I am easily seduced by risky selections. Wanted Dayle Garlett bad last year...
  20. Unfortunately for the club to come out and say what everyone is thinking would lead to a massive backlash. Not worth it. Trade him for what we can get and move on. Hope that he doesn't turn out to be as good as we know he can be. Hopefully the club can look back and say 'we dodged a bullet there'. Needs a fresh start away from Melbourne... Shockingly not at St Kilda or Western Bulldogs. How convenient.
  21. Sounds alright. I'd rather keep the Toump though. But you don't get Danger for nothing!
  22. They'd be mad to trade Shiel unless he wants to come home. He is now what they hope the pick they'd get for him will become. Still I'd love to get Sheil and still have top 3 pick in the draft. I'm not convinced we wont get Petracca.
  23. Anyone who thinks MC and Frawley aren't in the top 5 most impost players at our club is kidding themselves. We lose both after a season where we finished 17th. This is bad. Those guys impact games and kids don't for a few years. Roos will have to have a blinder to improve our list with trades compared to the loss of those guys. It hurts so bad that Mitch doesn't want to come back. Him back and firing is exactly what we need. I feel like the universe conspires to create just one or two crappy events each year to keep us down. This appears to be one of those.
  24. My girlfriend is an Adelaide supporter. Has number 32 on her jumper. Relationship may not be able to survive Paddy coming to Melbourne... I'm willing to risk it.
  25. You have to wonder if there's a curse sometimes. Gun player. Injury. Then retires with depression. That alone could only happen to Melbourne. This latest turn of events is almost taking the [censored]. Sometimes you have to just shake your head and look at your feet the way only a Melbourne supporter can.
