  1. define backwards kicking? does that mean a kick that goes closer to the opponents goal or a kick that goes further away from our goal? if you are on the 50 meter line on the boundary and kick it straght up it technically isnt any closer to our goal (maybe a meter using pythagorous but by and large its the same) but you could be 15 meters closer to the opponents goal. like wise if you are on the 50 at CHB and kick along the 50 line towards the boundary it isnt closer to the opponents goal, but you are going backwards in terms of distance to your goal. or is this just another rule that the umpires will call sometimes and ignore sometimes?
  2. those two may be a bit much but we got some rain i think im the first post on xmas day...yes i know i need a life lol merry christmas everyone, keep safe.
  3. interesting that yze and neitz are the only current players in the team. and we have all been suggesting that yze gets dropped recently. to go on and be a force we need mclean to force his way in there and some other youngsters to come close, rivers perhaps.
  4. i really dont understand that pollitically correct stuff sometimes. honestly. it is a title. chairman. like calling someone general, or inspector. you can be a chairman and still female as far as im concerned it is just a role which happens to have the suffix 'man'
  5. Out of interest, what is IIRC? and because i don't really know much about this, do we have large tax debts? and why? and why didnt the lg deal help pay this? sorry but i am interested and would be appreciative if u could elaborate for me. cheers
  6. hahaha i never knew that was why it was tigger. very very good.
  7. a young player like bartram could put weight on during the year, especially because his body is still growing and maturing. he would naturally bulk up a bit if he wasnt doing anything beforehand...
  8. it is he
  9. i saw paul robinson from neighbours at forrest hill shopping centre today? he wasnt with any women, but even though izzys a nutcase shes way better looking than lyn scully.
  10. i think with the whole full time thing there is no reason why al players shouldnt be able to kick off both feet and kick over 50 m on their prefered... i understand some players may struggle for distance due to physical realities, but with a 3-4 month preseason, im sure if players spent 10 minutes after every session working on kicking with their opposite foot they would have it soon enough... i have no problem with players working to perfect techniques such as banana, torp and would like to see the drop kick and stab pass make a comeback, if a player can use them effectively and execute them properly.
  11. i still dont understand why people are tlaking about a 'complete rebuild' in another 2 years. as ive said before the only players we will lose are jeff neitz and mcdonald. holland eventually. we have young players preparing to step into neitzs giant shoes, that will be hard. but it also might make our forward line function a bit better...jeff white will be hard to cover but apparently all you have to be is really tall to be a good ruck these days... i still think we should pick the best available in the first round and look to get a pacey midfielder (aker or wells) and/or a key position back in the draft. pick another ruckman with a late round pick (or rookie one and promote neaves if we think he might cut it). i think the current team will get us close. next year will see mclean, sylvia, bell become regular members of the side, will see jones, bate, dunn and CJ have another preseason and step into the role of young contributor instead of promising youngster (i know they have been playing great but it isnt expected week in week out like it is a more senior player). we will improve next year without adding players from other teams...
  12. michael newton is juice? sylvia = kid? byron pickett = choppey
  13. secret ballot ey trav20? nice lol
  14. i dont think you can call dunn soft. that kid has a bit of mongrel and it will show thru with time. he doesnt take [censored]. remember that he is 18 or 19 and that he still has a bit of growing and another 10 kilos to add efore you see him throw his weight around. i do rate miller. and think he will importnat for us. but until he can fix up his kicking he will never be a great forward. and when he is down on confidence there is no way he can play back.
  15. he has played great and dominated when in the sandy 2's yeah? and has shown good form in the ones, bu has always been behind sauntner dunn miller smith for positions meaning he doesnt get the chance to dominate. if dunn is injured. i believe he should be ahead of miller in the pecking order. he kicked 7. thats a big haul. miller kicked 3. miller has played an excelent game at sandy and a reasonable one for their seconds in the last two weeks. most people would say the only two games he has stood out in all year. newton has impressed many. giving him a run couldnt be a bad thing, but as you said nasher, important games might keep him out. watch out for next year.
  16. tata bang the seniors had a bye, both miller and newton have been playing in the seniors. its a strange problem to have. neitz and robbo pick themselves. then miller dunn newton holland are all fighting for the third tall. holland has found a niche in the back line. i still think millers best footy will be forward, although i think he needs to be the thrid tall, and we cant rely on him to score. i think dunn is a definite CHF. newton will replace neitz no doubt, however he has to wait for a spot. its hard but i think he will be a ready made replacement and i hope we dont lose him now. meanwhile, why was dunn left out? injury? does this pave the way for newton to get a game next week at CHF?
  17. interesting to note that while there is a spread in the backline, wheels and CJ feature in all the main options. the toss up is bell wheatly or brown for the 3rd spot.
  18. i am assuming that sportal publish the material and they want the links to their sites so that people visit and see their sponsors ads...thats fair enough too, they have to make money somehow. i cant see a prob with posting the key lines of an article that are relavent to our discussion and posting a hyper link so that you can follow it up if you want to...
  19. yeah i have no probs with girls playing footy, the problem is there are big differences between the physical development (size - height and weight, and muscle size/development). i am talking in generalities but they are pretty true. a 14 year old boy is bigger and stronger than a girl the same age. and even when the girl has the advantage of size the boy often has more strength. the reason girls cant play footy is so they dont get hurt. you also have the obvious sexual reprecussions. most blokes would feel it inappropriate to tackle a girl around the chest even if they girl doesnt mind the contact coz its part of the game. but if thats the case, who decides acceptable or unacceptable contact? it causes too much problems. unfortunately there are not enough girls playing footy to have leagues of a decent standard (compared with boys footy). it sucks but i dont think girls can play with boys in this instance.
  20. yeah carnthedees, it always provides a better style of footy than the GF, because while you want to win the game you will not be heartbroken if you lose, so defensive footy is not on the mind.
  21. FWIW i think SoO is more relevent than the international rules which is a completely different game played against amature sportsmen. not taking away anything from the irish but i think now sheedy is in charge we will find that things go our way more an more. i can't understand the fuss about injuries in SoO. injurys occur anywhere. intraclub practice matches. preseason training. wizard cup. hit by a car. these things happen. if the concept was to push forward, i think the afl would need to take on the responsibility that the clubs normally have with regard to players. ie rehab, work cover, career ending injuries should be covered by afl. im sure there is insurrance for this type of stuff so no one should be too out of pocket. i also understand where the tassie people are coming from. its not relevent for the allies to play. but the NRL does just nsw v qland, so why couldnt we have vic v sa? allies is a bit farfetched, but it might work it if was tassie+qland v wa> we could have one game each year, or a carnival every 2 years. winners play off in a gf SoO. make it a three match series and the three matches will all be relevent. no dead rubbers. i think that representative footy is sorely lacking in football. it proves it is not about the money, but about playing your best. it sounds a bit ammaturish in a proffessional sport but it is important to the supporters and to he players that money isnt everything. SoO would fill this void.
  22. yeah well done guys. anyone finding good little tricks let us all know. rock on.
