i love reading your comments yze_magic, and that was one of the best lol

i definetly put no credence in the hun. that was a terrible piece of making stuff up...especially when it was conflicted by fagans comments. i get the feeling that byron needs games to get fit...its not nessecarily running speed etc he needs, its getting used to the match pace. if this is the prob, he needs to get match fit in the afl not the vfl as the game is different anyway...

really thats not too bad. although 4 of the top 5 are in our best 22 and james frawley looked the good preseason. i expect that pickett and rivers will come back this week. honestly i cant see why newton cant get a go while dunn is out which means dunn probably wouldnt slot back into our 22 any way... brock is the main one, as long as we keep everyone else on the park til he gets back we can cope...for now.

in all honesty, i cant remember signing up and tipping, not to say that i didnt do it...just wondering if it is me or if someone else is using my monika haha

did he purposely grab his leg to stop him running? how could this be negligent, shouldnt it be deliberate? negligent could only mean that it was not on purpose and he shouldnt have taken more care. ie he had fallen over, was trying to get up and lappin ran over his legs. of course it was deliberate...at least it was reckless (ie he was trying to tackle and missed)...

i disagree melbfc...yze has had too many chances in the past 3 years. he was on his last legs preseason and finally put in at sandy to get his game. he didnt play well so he gets dropped. 2 weeks ago danners threatened to drop him. he played 1 good game for sandy since. why does that get him another chance. i think yze, and therefore melbourne, will better for once we get that stupid record off his back and he can concentrate on playing footy.

pity we lost our counts when the old site went, i'd be well over 1000 now... -
i think some of the thereory behind it is like a car. if you drive it until the tank is empty you stuff the fuel pump and have to fix it back in the garage. if you use only some of the fuel and keep it topped up it will be able to keep going for much longer. given the appropraite recovery players can play out the full game. given that we expect them to run flat out on the field they need to come off to recover.

fwiw i once broke an ankle while umpiring a game of footy in the opening minute of the game but ran (or hobbeled) on it for over 10 mins when i couldnt stand it any more...it can be done i spose and a healthy dose of adrenelein can really help you out. was in plaster for 8-9 weeks after that...

i think jaded, to add to what you said, there is a certain amount of revenue that is almost a standarad, can be relyed upon. whether it be tv rights, gate reciepts or some other form of payment from the afl, this money is there every year. and this is what will be paying the players, because the players would be the first thing we pay. extra money we recieve goes towards the auxillaries mentioned in various posts. what i think people have missed is that to have a large membership base ensures better sponsorship (advertising reaches further) it does add slightly to the coffers. more important to me than membership however is game attendence. i dont care if you pay for a membership or not, but if you claim to be melbourne get down to the ground and support, barrack, sit quietly and drink chardoney i dont care, but get there for your team. if we got an extra 5000 to each home game we would be in a much much better position than we are now regarding ground aloocations, tv rights, fixturing etc. and its worth noting that if you're going to go to all the games then you may as well buy a membership

thanks mate, at least your pumped for me lol

i am finding it hard to get excited. the cricket presentation night is on friday so i wont be able to get to the game, but im hoping to tape it and come home and watch it after a big night...

i dont always read them and i dont always agree but they are always worth discussing

well if we are that close hopefully we should go past. i assume 25 g would be the first aim but we really want 30. did the club set a goal for the membership this year?

we only get him if he nominates it is us he wants to come to. then WC negotiate with us, we play our best hand, if not Judd walks into the PSD.

FB M. Whelan N. Carroll D. Bell HB J. Rivers B. Holland C. Johnson C T. Johnstone C. Bruce N. Jones HF B. Green ???? B. Pickett FF R. Robertson D. Neitz A. Davey R J. White B. McLean J. McDonald I M. Jamar C. Sylvia D. Ward B. Moloney A. Yze Interesting that if you take out 'best 22' and put it into a team what do we lack...a CHF! and also probably an extra tall on the bench. We have 3 tall backs, 2 tall forwards (incl. robo), a back up ruckman, plenty of midfield depth, a couple of running half backs but we're still short a forward. i have put yze on the bench and started jones on the wing. i think he deserves it more but it is much of a much-ness, they will play running rolls, or yze will rest forward.

you know robbos missus??? lucky bastard.

while we're talking about the work people are doing- thanks you again to all the people who work tirelessly so that we can share our thoughts and have discussions. its one thing getting a site up but then having to worry about little things like the colour can add up and sometimes it can be too much. on behalf of us all thanks for your efforts guys.

i agree with you dappa dan. everyone knows the conditions of the ground before they step onto them. if they think they are too hard, dont play. i play cricket and i know that we just want to pay no matter what...
-
i spose the issue is that you may not tank the match yourself but you may know that the opposition plan on it, or you may talk to them about it, or you may know how your side is travelling ie players fully fit or carying injuries, you may know the make up of the side. a number of factors that could influence the average punter having a bet but they dont know. as a player you have inside information. i dont think he should be sacked but he is bloody stupid. the club should be ensuring this is the last time it happens.

the chicken or the egg? i think both are products of each other. and either can come first. poor performance can result in trouble off field, and likewise it can filter through if off field is shakey...

i think the reason you dont trade miller ealry is because of his physical attributes. he has the size, shape and physical abilities that don't come around very often. he does have leadership aplenty also. i think he will do alright when he finds his rhythem. on an aside about miller. i have never seen him play close to goal. i know we have neitz there now, but not forever. he does alright at CHF leading, he is hopeless in the back line. any dnager of him being a natural full forward, where kicking distance isnt a problem?
-
with neitz resting in the nab cup and an extended interchange bench, it would surprise me if newton didnt play CHF and we didnt take dunn and miller into the side. both will get a go at CHF and their form in these matches added to other preseason training will decide who starts at CHF. i cant see why we cant play both. dunns size means he could prob play on the flank, and miller does tend to push up into the center meaning dunn can then straighten up to the top of the 50. this would leave robo and neitz as the talls at FF. if we played all 4 we are likely to see robo get a smaller opponent which will only help him. i think miller needs to be utilised pushing up the ground as the linkman.

gday lampshade and welcome to the forum. congrats on picking the demons as your team, the oldest football team in the world. i can't really help you on the books, but there will be someone around here who can help you out. membership of the mfc generally includes entry to all victorian home games. you can get upgrades to include entry to away games, interstate games, reserved seats at the ground (generally in prime viewing positions) etc. it costs $160 for the basic package for an adult (entry to 11 home games). the cost for your son depends on how old he is. i think if he is under 15 there is a package that gets him into all games for about $55. if he is older than this it costs about $110. the full details are on the club website here: http://shop.afl.com.au/demons/mcategory.as...cookie%5Ftest=1 it is amazing how affordable it is to become a member of your football club in australia, especially in victoria. i have spoken with brits before, and they just cant believe that they can go and watch every week for just a fraction of what they pay for the soccer back home. hope this helps lampshade, and carn the dees!
