  1. to be sure, to be sure...
  2. great result. now jaded has to sell her shoes!
  3. no just the steak knives. i got something for you tho. i reckon this should be your avatar. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c1/Stan.gif go into 'my controls' and then 'edit avatar settings'. put that link in there for me. by the way, i agree with a lot of what you said. hopefully we will get watts with pick 3, although id be happy with any of them i think. and id love to land warnock.
  4. 12 minutes left in the first quarter? thats hardly storming home... ok im giving up now. but i really like the idea that a commentator would go crazy over newton and use the line 'the dees are back in front' after we kicked the first behind and the dogs kicked the next two
  5. its the irish accent. it makes it so much easier to convince anyone of anything...
  6. no, back in front implies its not the first score of the game
  7. so newton kicks the first goal of the game? better get down to the TAB and put some cash on it
  8. spot on rhino. who cares that his name is michael voss? he is an ex player with no experience. he is only just out of the game so would be coaching lists he played against (or with). not worth the punt imo either.
  9. there were two threads, they were merged.
  10. robbo and carrol are contracted next year. we cant scrap them. wheelan, i thought he was gone, but if he holds form he might save himself given the other retirements, or he might get a push given robbo and carrol must be retained. maybe we keep him if we move on green and wheatly.
  11. A couple of stats interested me there Sam. The midfield group (including ruckmen who rest forward): games 166, goals 69.41 goals from the midfield. With 14 rounds gone, those 166 games represent 12 of the 22 players on the field each week, on average. that means less than 5 goals per week are coming from our midfield, which to me is not enough. adding in the fact that davey green and bruce have actually played in the forward line at times (ie not kicking goals from the midfield) it makes it even more of a problem. Forward group: 53 games, 73 goals. 1.37 goals per game from the forward group. people are hailing bate as a forward but he has kicked less goals than games. until he lifts that he isn't doing his job up forward. sylvia is excused for now because he has played a few games in defence. but if he continues to play up forward he will need to lift that to 2 goals per game. same goes for miller. a bag every few weeks isnt good enough, players who play forward need to kick 1.5-2 goals every week then the occassional bag of 4-5.
  12. wow i stand corrected. is it a million loss last year and similar again this year that has caused the blow out?
  13. that is a trade that may have something in it. if we could get pick 10-12 for those two we would have to seriously consider it. neither would have more than 3 years left of great footy even though they might be around for another 4-5. my concern with a trade such as this is that we will be left with no senior players to guide the younger players with all the retirements we will have. if we are left with davey, bruce, robbo, carrol, moloney, rivers, wheelan and miller (and jamar?) as our only over 25's we might have a great future, but it would be a strange position to be in. especially given there is no guarantee that 4 of those will be fit enough to play much of next year, and that there are serious question marks over two of their futures in the 1sts.
  14. you're joking right? he is playing good footy, but we are seriously over rating our own if thats what you think he is worth. another club would get 4 years out of a soft NQR player with a long kick. he cant play tall, he is too slow to play short. he kicks it long but isnt classy enough. he doesnt get enough of it himself to make up for the fact that he isnt the best finisher going around. i like him on the wing, pushing up and attacking, but he is just a cog in a team. he will play his role each week no doubt, but will rarely if ever win games off his own boot. if we wanted to trade him 3rd rounder at best. he is worth more than that to us so we keep him. if we could get pick 25 for him id take it in an absolute heartbeat. but it wont be offered.
  15. we werent 2 mil in debt at the start of the year. it was more than that. PG was saying it would be around 4, stynes has said it is more like 4.5 - 5. im not sure the exact figure.
  16. is the facility ready to use as is, or does it have to be built?
  17. i still believe that if the club is debt free it will have money to spend on making money rather than money to spend on intrest bills. if we can clear a large slab of the debt, we might be able to convince the afl to kick in the CBF for another year which would then be used to either clear the debt completely or to purchase assets that would make us money. hotels, pokies, shares, property etc are all ways we can make money. unfortunately you need to spend money to buy these assets in the first place. fwiw we made a couple of bad decision (ie the faukner club i believe) which we acquired but were then denied the pokie licence. we need to ensure that whatever buisness decisions we make now, we are spot on. some good decisions over the next 2-3 years could really set us up for a good future, or they could spell the end for us.
  18. why? our ruck division performed reasonably without him. we havnt dropped either ruckmen (they are both named on the ground). white didnt dominate at sandy. he may be recalled, but i cant see a presing reason. we dont need 3 ruckmen, especially not against the dogs.
  19. ok i see what you are trying to get at 'if melbourne are to make it, these players need to step up and play at their best week in week out'. fair point. very early call on grimes, i had heard that about the draft also, but before he plays a game, its a big call. hope he lives up to it.
  20. think almost everyone is on the same page today... wonder if we will be happy with the final team come sunday?
  21. i think martin will be kept another week unless match ups demand that he is left out.
  22. there are also reasons why other players have been touted as top picks as well. there are also lots of reasons why he is touted as not a number one pick. this pick is very important. we cant afford to use it on a player who doesnt turn out for us. with this pick we need to pick up an elite player who plays 15 years and becomes an out and out champion of the league. if we pick up a molan, or a player who we believe will 'develop' into a player and it doesnt come off we will be in strife.
  23. out of interest, grimes hasnt yet played a match. i look forward to him playing, and you may be right about him being a superstar, but captain at 21 when he hasnt played at all in his first season? at least give him til he is 22, 23... brad miller could be great. i agree. if he plays 5 more games this year like he did against brisbane, and takes contested marks and kicks goals from outside 50 good on him. but for 5 years we have seen him play a good game followed by 6 average ones. he needs to take the pack marks and kick the goals more often. aaron davey, 5th most important player on our list in your opinion, yet what you have said about him says it all. too often he goes missing. too often he doesnt have an impact. and he has been in the system long enough now that he should be able to play consistantly. aussie kick 500 goals? only 43 players have ever kicked more than 500 goals. here is a list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFL_All-time_...kicking_records i think id be stoked if he played 150 games and kicked 300 goals.
  24. i know you tried to salvage some cred there by 'not knowing' her last name, but the fact that you know one of her song names, and the fact that you can recollect the song means you are struggling there DD
